Saw Afternoons with Margaritte, a French movie, nice enough...but what really got my goat was that Gerard Depardieu, played an old, very fat, very ugly, almost illiterate labourer and yet was sleeping with a drop-dead gorgeous girl who looked about 15!!!! Is it just the French???? Is it the director's male fantasy??? Is it me???

In a strange case of serendipity, the novel I am reading mentioned the movie Now, Voyager as an example of the long-ago genre where honour played a major part in whether lovers stayed together or not. Must investigate...before my time..of course!!!

Saw Incendies, a French Canadian movie set largely in an unnamed Middle-Eastern country. It was harrowing, very well acted and engrossing. Well worth watching. Puts a whole new perspective on researching your family tree!

Hello movie watchers. I saw the Kings Speech and Black Swan one evening (never underestimate the joy of the downloaded movie - nice to watch on your own couch). I could appreciate why oscars were given and were certainly well deserved.
Black Swan was very confronting. I talked to a friend about it the next day and she thought it was wonderful. I found it difficult to watch someone falling into mental illness.
I watched "I am number four" with #1 son the other evening. Typical cliched alien type movie - didn't do if for me or him.
I've also finally watched "The girl with the dragon tattoo" trilogy. I thoroughly enjoyed them, found them faithful to the books and can't think that Hollywood will do them justice.
I still have Rabbit Hole, Blue Valentine and Eat Pray Love to watch. I'll probably be back around Christmas.
happy Movie watching!!!

Ah, Victoria....welcome...another voice!!!
I too enjoyed KS, but I chose not to watch BS for the same reason you had difficulty with it. Bit of a coward here!
I would like to watch GWDT trilogy together. Although they obviously work as stand alone, I would prefer to follow the story at once. I thoroughly enjoyed the books and agree that the original movies may have an advantage over Hollywood. They do work to a different market.
Happy Movie Watching to you too, and let us know about the others.

Am I the only person in the world not interested in seeing the latest Pirates of the Carribean?
The first movie was good but they should have left it there. The second was dull and I don't even know whether I've seen the third or not. Even JD isn't enough to make me pay money to see it!

Oh, Victoria, how can you resist the twinkle in his eye, the cheeky grin, his delight as he calculates the millions he will be banking????

Well... easily!
Actually #1 came up with a copy the other evening. Hubby put it on and within 5 minutes I was asleep. I woke up and asked "Is that still the same chase" and after receiving the affirmation fell asleep again. I eventally went to bed before it finished. Hubby tells me it was a very ho hum movie. Sounds like I didn't miss anything.
Have you read where JD never reads the script for any of his movies. I think it's about time he was a bit more selective.

Maybe he needs the money???
Won tix to the new Jim Carrey movie I love you Philip Morris. It was based on a true story. The actors were very good, but I nearly cried to see the delectable Ewan McG as a gay man. What a waste!!!It was maybe a little confronting for some people, one man walked out, but I enjoyed it. JC managed a nuanced performance and the movie veered from comedy to pathos, ending on quite a sobering note.

Please don't tell me that no-one has seen a film since June 4???
I went to see Tree of Life. My friend who is a film buff loved it and can't wait to see the 6 hr Director's Cut. I didn't really enjoy it. There were some great parts...Brad Pitt was really good, the bonding and confused family relationships were excellently shown, but I found it overly long and deliberately confusing. Maybe that's the essence of a truly great movie, polarising opinion?

Won Tix to The Conspirator. I really enjoyed it. It was an excellent period piece about a time that many Aussies know little about, the assassination of Abe Lincoln. The acting was great (JA was his usual brilliant acting/gorgeous eyecandy), the look was sumptuous, the story fascinating. There were also 'contemporary resonances' which, as usual with our American friends (sorry Terry if you're around), was laid on with a trowel. On both counts I found this movie well worth watching.

My husband got free tix to a cineplex for his BDay and we saw Horrible Bosses...all I can say is Thank Goodness we didn't pay for them! Jennifer Aniston looked awful...her face was so bland...she could have been anyone.

Saw The Illusioniste, an animated version of a Jacques Tati story by the mob who did Triplettes of Belleville. Lovely pic that captured the humourous melancholy of the M Hulot series.
