I saw the news tonight about the flooding in the UK. I've lived through one flood and hope not to see another.

It seems to go in fits and starts lately. I don't know what has happened to all the other chatterers.

Now the page has turned!!! I meant the page before. When I was quite young in UK we were flooded and I really enjoyed it, paddling about. Now I am older I realise the devastation of it all. Nature fights back.

Some went to the dentist yesterday afternoon! That shouldn't really stop them typing. Perhaps they are just tonge tied.

When I was 9 or 10, we had a heavy rain and a local water catchment dam burst. It flooded the entire county. It took at least a month for the water to go down.

I had the same dentist for almost 28 years. Since I don't care for his replacement, am trying to find a new one. Been dragging my feet on that.

That sounds awful Becky, was there a lot of damage? I always feel for the animals. Unless they are very valuable they get left behind. I know millions of chickens in cages have been drowned in UK.

Our house was on a hill. The only damage we had was our garden had a small gully through the middle of it. My great bachelor uncles' house flooded and they wouldn't leave. People took them food in rowboats. We went and helped clean it. A small town below us was almost entirely under water. Everyone helped each other and the town is still there.

I am quite lucky, I really like my dentist. We have many dentists near here. I don't think we have caught up with some of the techniques you have over there yet. It is still a bit archaic in some practises. Don't leave it too long though.

Holmes County is hilly. The water followed a natural path so the farm animals were able to get to high ground. Only a few young calfs died.

Hope you are both doing well today! (I was one of the people who had a dentist appointment. I had a permanent crown put in/on this afternoon.)

You say the town is still there, did the people return to their houses? I must have taken ages to dry it all out, all that mud indoors! Were people given enough time to evacuate?

Lynda, I have to find one in our insurance network. They won't pay for one that isn't.

I'll keep popping back in, Becky. I just don't feel like I can make a commitment to stay 30 minutes or more. Between my mouth & my restless legs, I may be up & moving about. Last night I tried to post a goodnight and lost the post, lost the site, and couldn't get back in, so surrendered & went to bed.

I don't think there was any warning. People stripped their houses down to the bare wood, pumped out their basements and stayed with friends and family. Once the everything was dry, they put up new drywall, etc.

Julie, hubby had 2 done within a month. Both teeth had hairline cracks. Everytime we ate, he'd startle me with a yelp.

We have a similar arrangement here. We have to pay 80% of the bill though. If you have no insurance you have to wait months for an appt at the free clinic. My H is going for full implants later this year so we are saving up like mad. No holidays for a few years!

Which kind is he getting? I had a friend that had the ones where they pull the tooth then put the new one in it's place. Another friend had the same thing, but they attached them with tiny screws. Both ways sound awful.

I suppose the people who had to so much work done to repair their houses would be able to claim from their household insurance. Hope the dam wall has been strengthened and it doesn't happen again.

Becky - that flooding sounds horrible. The clean-up can be difficult, time-consuming, and now, knowing about the problems with mold, it's even more troublesome.

In Ohio you have to buy flood insurance separate from your homeowner's. Since the town is next to a large creek, I would think that they had coverage. It seems to be holding, knock on wood.

He is going for evaluation in Sept. Probably four to six metal posts top and bottom with bridgework over. It is done under a general, patients won't stay still under a local! As each bridge is done his own teeth will be removed. The posts are going where he has already lost teeth. Better than dentures!

Everyone bleached their basements, inside and outsides of their houses. A local company came along and picked up the ruined furniture, etc. at no cost.

Yes to pain meds - injections of novocaine or similar. There really wasn't any pain during the procedure, but my lower jaw hurts now. I had a temporary crown for about a month, which held up well. I don't care for the crunching/cracking sound as the temporary is removed. Last year I needed a crown on the tooth behind this one (furthest back in my mouth). That was worse because it was so far back, I have a small mouth, & had to keep open for so long.

Hubby was sore for only about a day, but he has a big one. He told me the worst for him was when they took the impression. Maybe you'll feel almost normal tomorrow.
