A smile costs nothing, but gives much. It enriches those who receive, without making poorer those who give. It takes but a moment, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever.

Ahh, two nice TOPPs to start the day with.
Suzy - many years ago, we were at Col's Mum's farm and a puppy came into the yard and started following Col and the kids around. They all fell in love with it but I insisted they find the owner. After going to several farmhouses they were directed to the owners (by someone who said that they always let their dogs run loose). A visit to them resulted in us keeping the puppy - Bonnie - who we had for 17 years until she had to be put to sleep, 2 days before we moved here. She was the most faithful, smart and wonderful dog a family could ever ask for and we were devastated when the inevitable happened. She was lucky, she didn't get run over on the road because of careless owners, but found a loving family. She was a German Shepherd/Border collie cross, we always thought.

I got little done today. I kept falling back asleep, so figured that I shouldn't be driving. Besides, my back was hurting somewhat. I didn't even go to the Cattlemen's meeting. All I did was 2 cow checks, and put some hay out. And sleep.

Birds and dogs are fed and watered. The birds are all enjoying their fresh veggies. There isn't a single bird that doesn't enjoy some green stuff. Some have their preferences. They all like fresh lettuces, the male Plummy loves grated carrots and the female Plummy loves sugar snap peas. The lovebirds, cockatiels and Splendid Parakeets enjoy the carrots and radishes, too.

So I'm off to bed.

No calves today.

Heidi, their next door neighbour told hubby that she stays well away from them because they are not very nice people....so your tirade was probably well placed.

Brenda, hope a couple of days off work helps Andrew's hand..

Lizzy, I can't wait to hear about the greyhounds too! You almost have a zoo going there..

Theresa, your lunch out sounds nice. Sorry about your acheys..

Tami, I often think of David and send out cyber thoughts... each time I feel the effects of my stroke he comes to mind.

Cyn, I'd believe your description of Bonnie's nature. Our German Shepherd cross Kelpie is also very loyal, and Border Collie's are sweet .. but I also think nurture has a lot to do with it. She was well loved.

My day...

I was called at 7.30 this morning to work at the closer high school. They start almost an hour later than the other school. They also have 4 1.5 hour periods a day. I had a free period first period (bugger) that means I took a roll then sat around for almost 2 hours before my first class. Then I had Senior Support. These are IM kids so a mix of ages and lots of agro, school is no fun for most of them. We ended up giving up on the things I'd planned and letting them shoot baskets in the gym. Noisy, disorganised, but they were moving and not killing each other. I spent my 20 minute break looking for 2 girls to see if they had a ball I was looking for. Then I had Junior Support. Much less agro, school hasn't become as horrible for them yet, for most of them at least. It was really too hot for the planned T-ball game, though I did get these kids to do all of the organised things I'd planned so after one inning I took them to shoot hoops too. Then spent 20 minutes on playground duty and then my 20 minute break putting stuff into the system. Then I had year 8. Enough said. Year 8 is year 8.

PLEASE be careful, Suzy. If it looks like they're asking you to do more than you feel you should do, say NO. If you crash, or have another stroke, the price is too high.

Hope the fair is fun after the schedule you've been keeping June.
Heidi, I do hope your back will allow you to do the minimum calve check and that swoon all will be done for the season and you can get some proper rest. BTW, I agree with your comment directed at Suzy...It does sound like she has taken on a really big load and now she's paying for ot...we don't want the price to go any higher than a few aches....Are you listening Suzy.....Take care.
I've been battling a cold that my thoughtful SIL shared with me when he took me to have my procedure done...It's causing lots of problems and coughing, so can hardly wait until this is past.
Tami, how'd your brother make out in the contest? Has he noticed increased business or new customers because of it? Just interested since you said it didn't come with a prize, I hoped better business would result.
Have a great day/night wherever you hang your hat. Peace.

Heidi, they haven't announced the winners yet. He did appear on the local news a few weeks ago. It was right before Valentine's day. They interviewed him and he showed some of his merchandise. I don't really speak to my brother that often. We are relatives, but not friends.

Hello all.

FIL is not being cooperative about nurses and other people coming in to help him now that he is home. He has put his foot down and said he will not have them there. So who is supposed to help him with his shower? He is also getting confused about his meds. We are at our wits end as to what to do with him. I fear hubby's sister, who lives next door to FIL, will get the brunt of it. I am making meals to bring to FIL, doing some of his laundry, and hubby will probably spend at least most weekends down there.

I made a nice pot roast in the crock pot today, and froze it all in meal size portions. Tomorrow I will make a stew in the crock pot, but I have to get to the store first thing in the morning. I haven't got all my chores done today, but I think I am headed to bed soon. My tummy has been upset this afternoon. I am also still going through bouts of insomnia, and quite often when I do sleep deeply, it seems to be accompanied by nightmares. Oh, the stories I could tell you.

Oh, I also made a chicken and vegetable stirfry, but when it was done my tummy was too upset to eat it. Well, there's tomorrow night's supper for me ... or lunch ... or both.

Theresa, don't you want to go and shake him and yell - accept this or else? It doesn't feel fair from here....

June, big hugs. I hope you have a good time at the show.

Tami, it would have been cool to see your brother on TV!

I still ache and had physio on top of it this morning. Probably because I ache I didn't see any improvement in my times etc. Oh well.

I've been doing a bit of swearing. Not enough yet, but I'm getting there.

I made chicken w/ wild rice soup and served it in bread bowls, for supper tonight. IH was cold when he came in, and it warmed him up nicely. My tummy is happy, too.

Oh Theresa - I do feel for you, your hubby and his sister. Trouble is, once dementia sets in, they can't be reasoned with.
We arranged home help and respite when Dad started to get bad - he hated the home help coming in and was not nice to them and accused them of stealing, and on the respite days, either my sister or I had to be there to get him in the minibus because 'why should I go out'. Mum was too weak and let him get away with it, if we were there he just went off like a lamb!
My sister and I were just talking this morning about his appalling behaviour in those days. Previously he had been a polite, pleasant, friendly man.
I hope your FIL has been made a priority for a place in care.

My FIL accused his carers of stealing and I think they were. I was the one who got him money from the bank and all of a sudden he seemed to go through more. As I was also the person who took him shopping it was a little weird that the money disappeared... But because it's common to accuse, as Cyn says, nothing ever changed.

Mama - hope that cold clears up soon.
Tami - maybe the exposure on TV helped your brother get some good business. I voted sometimes but other times I could not get in either from my page or Jewel's.
Love and hugs to everyone!

Suzy - in my Dad's case, he usually accused them of stealing his watch, which would always be found where it was meant to be. Sorry, it wasn't necessarily the same for your FIL.
Old age is our parents way of paying us back for all they did for us as kids. And what a payback!! lol

Hey, everybody.
Still sleepy. I figure I must have some bug. Just hope it's not Mono again.

What's a bbq tea, VViv? I know what bbq is, and I know what tea is, but I've never heard of the combination.

Heidi, tea is what Aussies call a meal, especially the evening meal I believe. So I think Viv is saying they had a BBQ meal at the beach in the evening.

My sleepiness probably put the site to sleep. I'm gonna have to take another nap soon. I'm tired out from running to town. I had to pay for my oral surgery that I'm having next week. They give a 5% discount if you pay a week in advance. It doesn't sound like much, but the bill is over $4,000.00. My discount came to $210.50. I used it to buy another cockatiel at the local pet shop, and some more bird toys.

MizT, thank you for explaining tea. When it's not a drink it's always an evening meal. What are you having for tea? is What are you having for dinner? But I have heard lunch called dinner... just to be confusing.

Heidi, another holiday for your dentist???!! Bugger.
