Yesterday, Meghan was trying to figure out what to do about Cairo - when to go, where to stay. She's not sure if she should work a little at a summer job to get some money or just go. Also, since I wanted to go see Bryana in Spain when she goes to that school program for a month, Meghan was thinking of going too. So maybe she will go there first and then go on to Cairo from there. I'll have to refinance my mortgage, but life is too short and this is a once in a lifetime trip!

Morning all. Decided to check in early today.

Gail, my heart goes out to you and your family. It's hard losing a pet.

Mamacita, my uncle has had a hip replacement and both knees done. Though not at the same time. The 3 surgeries were done over a 5 period. So, I'm sure Sully will do just fine with you there helping.

I don't mind it. I've gotten to know a few of the clerks and we stand around visiting. Hubby thinks it's a hoot.

our local grocery is staffed by college students, turnover is frequent, and not a lot to say to a pierced, tattoed young person now. Our small town is a college town, and the grocery is about the choice for work for the students. that or fast food, and most think fast food beneath them.

I could run one more load, but it is not yet a full load, so I think I shall wait. I did whites and mediums yesterday. A lovely breezy day with low humidity, they dried quickly.

The stores I go to are far enough away from the university that the students don't even shop there. Know what you mean about fast food places. I can't remember the last time I saw a high school student working at one.

University is right downtown Montevallo! A lovely old campus, and the town once was there to support the school, with services and things for students, before the interstate and idea it is OK to run 30 miles away for a pizza and a movie and shopping. Back when college students rode the train to school, and had a bicycle to get around.

OSU is like a little town in the middle of the city. But, Columbus and OSU in their wisdom, decided they needed the Gateway. Chased out all the affordable restaurant, etc. They facaded all the buildings and put in high end stores and restaurants. Last fall we went down for an art exhibit and everything was pretty much empty. I don't know where the students go now.

Good Maen All!

The fast food restaurants are full of high school students here. The way our pay scales work, young kids are paid less than older kids and adults. So the fast food places are full of the younger ones, with a few older ones in so things don't go completely loony. Once they get to 17 or so they are scheduled for fewer and fewer shifts until they just get fed up and leave - making room for a lower paid employee...

Having said that, the 'good' older ones are kept around. A friend's daughter, just started Uni, has to turn down shifts because they give her too many. So maybe I should give the fast foodies a little credit and suggest that they give the younger ones a good go, and if they aren't cutting it...
