BTW, MzT - was happy to read about your lower temps. We have gone back up into the low 80's during the day again...but it is suppose to be cooling off next week. I bought some warmer jammies when we were in Folsom for Mike's surgery...would love a chance to wear them - plus, water has become SO expensive, I'd like to stop watering the yard - we could use some rain!

VICI, my problem with water is water pressure. I had hoped repair of leak here would improve it, NOPE, not at all. I timed the filling of washer yesterday and it was 18 minutes, each fill. That sure does add to the time for a load to finish!

I know the time is comming when I consider a day with high of mid 50's to be a warm winter day, but the change was so sudden! mid 80's yesterday high to below 50 this morning. Our hi/Lo is usually about 20, maybe 25 degrees, not closer to 40 degrees! normal for September is low to mid 50's overnight.

OK, off to DO something today, I have a load of undies to wash, one load in a day seems about right. Tomorrow towels and I shall be caught up for about a week again. I will put undies in the dryer today, that might warm the house. Huumm, time to bake fish also, and see what else I can put in oven hehehe

Tricia - we have to replace all the pipes under the older part of our house to improve our water pressure (old galvanized piping)...but it is nowhere near as bad as you are experiencing! We just can't take a shower with the outside sprinklers going.
Weather-wise we are having that change a bit, too. I just love that it can be warm during the day and by 5 pm I have to close up the windows because it's getting so chilly!

Your weather sounds as if it is like ours today. this morning we had fog and 9C now it is bright sunshine and warmth, not sure how warm as the only outside thermometer we have is in the car and I haven't been out to the car lately. I had persuaded my husband to wear a coat this morning, regretting that now as he will be too hot. He is one of those people who don't feel the cold. I can be shivering and he is as warm as toast

Eight years ago when we replaced the kitchen we installed a water softener on our system. After a few months we noticed our water pressure got better. We have very hard water where I live so bad that water pipes, or anything we use water in used to get coated with limescale quite quickly. The water softener was the a good investment. It means our washing machines etc last longer

I did a bit of unsewing today, nice something to do while sitting. I had bought a linen pant suit some time ago and it has elastic plus a drawstring in the back, I did not like the gathered in look, made the bottom hem ride up in the back. So I got my trusty rippit tool that looks like a scalpel, and set to work. I did not have to remove the casing, just open enough at both ends to free the elastic from the side seam, then give a good press, and now I shall be able to wear the suit. and IF I ever want the back nipped in, like I loose a bunch of weight (do not see that happening this fall) I still have the drawstring. Works for me.

june, i am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel for you. another week and home free? my 2 oldest boys had their tonsils out a few days after my henry(6) was born. he was two weeks early. that was a rough week! they were so excited because they thought the icecream and such would be so great. no one told them they would be vomiting, because of all the blood they were swallowing, and wouldn't want to eat at all. poor things. hope laura has better recovery luck!

Hi Mariana and Heidi, Isn't it wounderfful to be able to air our problems and joys here and we all feel for one another. The sacrifices yoy are making now Mariana will be appreciated when you get hubby back full time and have that extra money to make things a bit easier for you all. In the meantime how it is making your children so much closer and helpful to you.
Heidi, enjoy your peaceful couple of days but please make sure you do not over do things.
With that I will go back to bed.

Do they still give icecream after tonsils have been removed? Over here toast is given. This helps remove and 'gunk' still left on the throat after the op and aids healing (or so I am told) I still have my tonsils and so do all my kids.

Morning all!

So much news over night...

Brenda, It took sooo long for Celia to get into the specialist unit! But at least she is there now. I'm sorry about the extra travel, especially now when your time is short.

Vici, maybe Mike will get pleasure from his ability to be independent even handless?

I remember having to water the grass in CA. We didn't have a sprinkler system so I had to move a sprinkler around by hand. I did the 'good soak, infrequently' thing and it worked well. I haven't watered grass since I left! When we have a drought the grass goes brown the greens up again when it rains. In CA, I would have been waiting a loooooooong time for that rain!

Mariana, your cowboy grandpa looks so much like my FIL did. He wore mostly blue shirts with a sort of check, but the hat and belt buckle could have been his! FIL was Texas born, but had been living in CA since before my hubby was born.

JUNE, the day my daughter, age 3, had tonsils and adenoids out and tubes in her ears, we were waiting for her in her room. she did not come back and did not come back, and I went to nurses station to ask why. They told me, Oh she is back in the play room. she was riding a tricycle and having great fun, eating her second popcycle even!

They liked giving the frozen treats to keep down swelling in throat and stop the bleeding, but did not like ice cream but this was 30 something years ago, so no telling what it is like today. she never had a minute's trouble, we took her home next day No vomiting, nausea, bleeding, nothing. I hope Laura has a recovery as easy as D#2 was.

MizT, the only good thing about the changes in the weather out your way is that the UV Index will be kinder to your skin. (I had to try to find something good about it!) OH, thought of another - the grass will grow slower and you won't have to mow as often.

Heidi, hope you are feeling a little better today. A cold on top of mono is not good, but I did read that your immune system is lowered by mono so I guess it is fairly common...

Today has been crazy. The transmission went out in my big tractor, Idiot Husband didn't leave on time (3 1/2 hours late), and needed help with everything (I didn't find his call phone tho'. He's out of luck there), had to take a dog into the Vet clinic (minor), and I still haven't gotten my nap. I am going to sleep until it's time to feed everybody.

Vici, moles can be difficult to deal with. You have them because you have food for them, specifically grubs, the larval stage of June bugs and Japanese beetles. If you can't train your cat to go after the moles, you have to go after the grubs. (Haven't you seen the grubs when you plant something or dig around in the yard?) Get granular Diazinon and broadcast it at the highest rate on the label. Water it in and stand back because it acts fast. This time of year grubs begin to appear immediately. If you have a heavy infestation, in a few days your yard will be a horror scene of dead and dying grubs, two or three per square foot. Keep the cat out of it. Diazanon is highly carcinogenic. Any moles that are not run off by the smell should get cancer and die. Organic, less dramatic, and very expensive is Milky Spore, a harmless fungus that will kill moles year after year. There are also newly engineered nematodes that will kill them, but they are engineered also to only live one year. The later two choices are available on the web.
