Thanks Sharon, for coming to visit today and the birthday greeting.
Did I tell you that your little grandson is gorgeos. My niece came and visited my mum on Tuesday with her 8 month old. I had big cuddles with Benjamin...

for the chocs and wine! White wine please, I think. Californian? I know German white wine better, so I would love to try yours. In my view, most things can be sorted with wine and chocolate!

Sharon, it's spooky! You say 'Hello-o! Hello-o!' from your page. But you still kept saying 'Hello-o! Hello-o!' when I went on. And all evening you have been saying 'Hello-o! Hello-o!' to me from the computer...
And are those your paintings in the background? I really must try and get my home page organised.

Hi Sharon, Happy Birthday! Thanks for your kind words on my page. I feel for you with your son and this horrible war. That was my first thought when I heard Bush had invaded: will my kids have to go to war? I instinctively knew that this was going to be a long one, and might eventually require the draft. I think about my son and the army, and I am glad that he has no desire to join. Actually, most of his problems stem from terrible learning disabilities so I doubt he would even be accepted in the army. Some consolation, anyway. I still worry about my younger one being drafted, but maybe the Democrats will get in and end the war. But, on the bright side, your son has an honorable job, and we are all indebted to him.

sharon, Julian Bream was also my introduction to classical guitar ... in my teens ... in the early 60s. The album I wore out and had memorized was Baroque Guitar. Which one was yours?. I was also fortunate enough to see Segovia perform once, but didn't have primo seats like you had.
While I'm here, I'll give you a Redwood Burl to help decorate your page.

Sharon, I was touched by your tribute to those who are left behind. The waiting and wondering are the hard part, one is always thinking about their loved one who is in harms way.
My husband was in the Military for over 30 years, so yes I know how difficult war is. They never called it a war it was just a 'conflict' he fought in. He never got a Welcome Home or job well done. Each of his tours were 15 months long, on his last tour I did not hear from him for the last 3 months and he should have been home. With two children under the age of four, yes I was scared. The thoughts that go through the mind can be worse than reality.
Yes the psychological help is very important. There might not be scars on the body but there are scars in the mind.
Your son will be in my prayers for a safe return home.

Sharon - I agree with your sentiments about the kids quitting. I have mostly freshmen, and I am finding anymore that even those grades have begun checking it in pretty soon after Spring Break (mid-March for us).
Hang in there - I will be thinking of you - and my sister-in-law in Arkansas that goes until June 9.

Sharon, I will definitely have you in mind for the next three weeks! It is wonderful that you can still laugh every day - I love the kids under their desks!
My problem has been recently that I don't have enough laughs and too much of the other end of the spectrum.
Of course, one wonderful thing about this profession is that the clients change every year. Maybe I will have so much fun the next two years that I will not want to retire.

Sharon, I think the third grade stuck in my mind because that's the grade my youngest daughter teaches. She started out with second graders her first year, but then moved to slightly older children & likes them for the same reasons you do! She was voted Teacher of the Year at her school last year - a great honor for a young teacher only in her fourth year of teaching! We are very proud of her. Both Rob & I go often to help out with chores at her room, special projects, parties, & some tutoring sometimes. Seems not many parents offer to help these days, too many working moms I guess. How many years have you been teaching? When do you plan to retire?

Sharon, if you think my daughter is special, then YOU are really, really extra special!!! Wow, to be a teacher for 31 years is a great accomplishment & with five more years to go, you'll end up with 36 years of touching people's lives. God Bless You. I only hope we'll have enough people like you to continue to stay with a career in teaching like you did. What do you think of the Merit Pay system? Do they have that in CA?

Hey Sharon ~ thank you for your visit and I thank you for your prayers for Mom,shes had a very rough two years she had cancer ,empphysema then they found a lung disease ,a form of TB that isn't contagious but theres no cure for and now I'm taking her the the hospital for tests ,they feel she has bleeding somewhere because she is so anemic...so she didn't need this too!Oh and btw her cancer was stopped as far as we know she had to undergo a colostomy but they had to so better then the alternative!
Sky knew he made a mistake but we never scolded him ,it wasn't his fault ,I should have had him on a leash before she got out of the truck.as you say they are so sensitive and my Mom knew he was only happy to see her.
I looked at your pics and oh my Sharon you have a beautiful family!Oh my Brandon is just so sweet !
That is your son in the military isnt it? You must be so proud. Please thank him for me, he is one of our heroes and I respect and appreciate all that they do for us

Sharon, you've definitely got your hands full. Luckily for your parents, your heart is full as well, and they're fortunate to have such a caring daughter. I know the physical and emotional toll these things involve--my late father was hospitalized for the last six months of his life with a stroke, and I made the hour drive there and back to feed him a few times a week because the medical staff was 'busy.' But I was glad I did it and it changed me into a calmer, more grounded person. My mom sounds much like your folks--she's a stubborn one, and spent yesterday doing laundry and hanging her clothes on the line, stepping on a stool and complaining that her numb arm couldn't squeeze the clothespins. I shake my head. There's only so much we can do, right? I hope you're finding time for yourself and that there's someone special to pamper you. Feel free to bend my ear anytime; I'm here to support you.

Hey Sharon, thank you for visiting and wishing my mother well. She is very happy to have her luggage back and nothing taken from it!! Anyway, she has parkinsons and nothing will really improve her health, but we are trying everything to make her happy and comfortable. Regarding the elephant picture - it's not a pet elephant! We went ellie riding in Victoria Falls.
