So Mama, are you thinking of organizing a Sudoku get together in Pennsylvania? You would probably get people from the whole metropolitan area, maybe even Canada and Massachussetts (Boston). That would be something!

I'd love to organize a meet here...I've tried several times and only had one or two who were willing to travel...but thus far no luck!

It's too far for me. Even though I finally have my hubby playing Sudoku, he doesn't play at this site and thinks this chatting business is crazy and too time-consuming.

One of the big problems that public schools seem to have is that they get too big and therefore the focus and control is lost. They get greedy with the tax base and don't want to split it (here in NY) Albany had problems because their schools were so big that they couldn't reach the kids. I think that's why they started all of the charter schools, to make them small and more focused. But you're definitely right Mama, anytime the spotlight is on you, you're careful to shine. Then when it's gone, they don't keep up the effort!

One difference between public schools and charter school - or even private schools is just that. They are PUBLIC schools and take everyone. Generally test scores appear to be better in private and charter schools because their population is somewhat more select and families are INVOLVED. Therefore, kids are more invested in learning.

I understand your hubby..I was there once too...LOL! Nor would I want to travel that far to meet folks that I only knew on a chat page....but...if they are kinda close, it would be great and could grow. I'll meet up with those in Fla. before those who live closer I think.

but he seems to understand the chatting more than the game. He did ask me the other day if I ever work the jigsaws any more, he would occasionally work a good photo from sudoku as a puzzle

MizTricia, we were at the hospital waiting for me to be called for surgery last fall. I had printed out about 10 puzzles to help pass the time (delayed by about 4 hours). Just to help pass the time, he agreed to work on the puzzles with me.

Somehow 'quilters' probably sounds safer to a husband than 'Sudokuaholics'!

You're so right about the net get-togethers. When you meet you are like old friends cos you share something in common.

Stella, do the charter schools take all students from a neighborhood, or do families apply? If there is an application process, even if it is a public school, the population becomes somewhat more selective.
