Thanks Gail. Meanwhile I am packing bags. One for hospital, one for afer, one for Merlin... and trying to be organised. Blood tests tomorrow so I'l be hanging out for my coffee afterwards.

Even had to go and buy nighties and slippers and dressing gown. Don't think they'd appreciate me wandering around hospital with just a skivvy and knickers.

How terribly considerate of you Dino. I'm sure they would appreciate your skivvy and knickers more though than what I usually wear to bed!

Don't you find it difficult to pack while stuck to the pooter chair?

its not the chair, its the velcro on my laptop. Makes it really hard to wash the dishes.

Now we could have a conversation on appropriate night wear. If it was summer, then I wouldn't have much to talk about anyway, but since it is winter and I will be in a public place, perhaps I ought to know what the current fashions are.

Leave the dishes! They'll be there when you get back. how's the weather down your way tonight. It's been blowing a gale (pardon the pun) up our way today. Big branches down all over the place.

Don't ask me about nightwear! The last time I wore any was when I went to hospital to have my last baby. She's now 13! My girls all love over-sized flannelette jammies.

For example, should I take my ugh boots for slippers, or the slippers with red pom-poms, or the sheepskin scuffs(and very dirty)? Or just wear thick socks?

Not much wind down here. I did have a tree come down while i was away, but it was old and due to collapse. Was surprised when they mentioned wind on the news tonight.

I found out I'm suffering from velcro butt! Apparently, the symptoms are sitting down for ten minutes only to find an hour has disappeared and an inability to leave the pooter!

Not too sure about the red pom-poms though. I don't think they're appropriate for showing off in public! We wear uggies everywhere, especially up here. They are a social status symbol. Height of fashion.

And I thought the red pom-poms were cool. Since I like being different, I don;t have the velcro butt, but this is cos i use my laptop. So i have velcro knees instead. This will make it hard for the surgeon. he will have to somehow prise the laptop off first.

Its alright. I got my sewing girls to fashion a pair that drape over the chair and tie at the back, for decency you understand.

Hmm i've seen pics of uggies in NY. Mine are maroon (goes with the robes)Do you think that will matter? especially if I'm wearing a pale blue nightie (couldn't find a maroon one)

It doesn't matter the colour of your ugg, it in itself, will draw attention away from the non-matchingness of your attire! I think I read in a mag recently that pale blue and maroon are the new black.

Glad to hear that. So probably surgical removal of velcro butt becoming more common, too.

Now we are not supposed to wear black because that represents negativity, eve if it does make you slimmer. So perhaps I should not combine the maroon and blue. I do have one pink nightie (sleeveless)but it might not be too goos to wear it all week.

I was given the heads up about cheap uggs at Big W. Just ankle-high ones but they were only $8 and they came in heaps of different colours. So I went there with a shopping list for myself, 3 daughters and their friends and ended up walking out armed with eight pairs! They must have thought I was nuts. Little did they know, I was fast becoming the biggest bogan, east of the city!

Well I got my red pom-poms from big W too, at $8. Didn't see any ugg boots, but then I was in Traralgon. So now you don;t need fires. You can all wear your ugg boots, roll up in a doona, and no-one will notice the velcro problem.

with the laptop/knee problem, its difficult to bend over, so I can't pull up ugg boots, and even oversize Pj's don't fit. So I'll have to go with the pom-poms and nighties. Sigh. I put up my cool avatar to help me feel more fashionable,

Being serious for a sec, I have been a patient many times and have found nighties made of t-shirt material to be the most comfortable. The more, the better if possible. And a dressing gown for when you get shuffled around for follow-ups. How long are you intending to stay in hospital?

I'll be in 5-7 days.managed to find a 3/4 length cotton dressing gown (I hate heavy ones) and the nighties are all cotton, too. Easier to slip these on than to get PJ pants over a sore knee. Afterwards I stay with my yoga teacher friend and Merlin can join me there.

My hubby was home all last week with his first bout of gout. I say first because everything I've read indicates that it will recur. He was basically immobolized, luckily though, the swelling has started to go down. He still feels quite down about it but he has been back at work this week so I keep drumming into him how much better it is.

give hubby my condolences for the stout gout bout. Merlin is not jumpy-uppy. His legs are too short. Now, how come you've had so much experience in hospitals?

6 WEEKS! I can't imagine it!
I was 25 when I got my driver's licence. Up until that time, I'd managed quite well with 2 young children and a pram. When my third child was due, I couldn't handle the thought of dealing with three children and a pram on public transport so finally I got my licence. Within a month, I couldn't even remember life before cars! I hope you have a lot of books to read!
