I think I know what went wrong with my post with the error message. I had an equals sign in it, near the word comment and it thought I was trying to hack or something... At least that's what it looks like since the error went away when I got rid of the equals sign..

All natural breedings, Suzy. That's close to the maximum he can handle. I'm thinking now of buying 2 bred cows and a calf at this upcoming sale. If either of the cows has a bull calf, I can keep him as a second bull. If both have heifers, I'll be ecstatic, and can either AI some girls or buy a second bull.

It sounds like he had 'fun' this season!

I am curious about why you want to buy a calf when you have 40. I'm assuming it's something to do with breeding, genetics and all of that??

Mine are "commercial cattle"... high percentage Red Angus crosses, and only a few purebreds. I'm looking at top quality purebreds. Rede is too good a bull to not have him contribute to the breed.

I get it! Where do you sell your calves? Are they sold for meat? Milk? Showing my ignorance here because it seems that the offspring of a good bull wouldn't go for either of those things, but my limited knowledge of the cattle industry can't come up with anything other than those (or making more cattle of course!)

The reason for existence for beef cattle is beef. That is the bottom line. The best purebred breeders will have their cattle ultrasounded to actually get meat measurements, such as ribeye area, marbling and backfat. (the first 2 are good, the last bad) If you don't ultrasound (done only for breeders, you rely on carcass data like we do. Since we retain ownership on our cattle all the way to the processing plant, when our calves are butchered, the processor sends us about 10 or more different measurements on each animal, as well as the quality grade. We are at the point where 90% of our calves grade Choice. That's REALLY good. We're hoping Rede's calves do better. I would love some of them to go Prime. These particular breeders are very excited about getting carcass data on our calves. They have yet to see how their breeding performs in the feedlot. They're even planning to travel to Kansas to visit the calves right before they go to the packer.

I just posted a the show photo from yesterday. Rede's baby sister won National Grand Champion Red Angus female!!! I'm so proud, though I had nothing to do with it. She's still family.

Got a good one for you all
friends at work have talked me into joining Facebook, eek and I thought this was hard,
people ask you if you want to be theie friend and you accept,
well get this request from a Liz with the same surname, wanting to be my friend,
well I freaked out thinking all sorts of strange things.
turns out this Liz with the same name, had searched her own name and decided to try and make contact, she lives in Michigan, in the States,
and we are now trying to find out if there may be a connection of some form.....

and this morning it looks like it may survive,
the other one Gilbert hasnt attacked or anything.

Hi all! Still have 2 pages to read, but wanted to pop in at the end. I usually read and then find everyone gone
Thrilled to hear Rena and Amber arrived safely and are now full-swing into their tourist activities.
Lizzy - What a wonderful animal angel you were to help that Galah...I'm so happy to hear it is doing well.

Hey love the avatar
They think he may be very young so have to hope he will pull through.
He was sitting next to another bird that was killed, and very possibly Mum, as Mike my friend thinks this may be a baby, and was still being fed by Mum, this will make survival hard work.

As I am taking Gizmo to see Dr Ian the vet this morning
I am going to ask his advice
Gilbert the Galah was named after the road where he was found
so as this one was found on Mt Dandenong Road we have decide to call him/her Dandy

Speaking of avatars (thanks Liz) I love your new one, MzT!
Was thinking of some other SAers that might miss the move, like Lee. I heard from her and know she's not able to keep in touch as much, but hopes to return.
I guess we all pretty much know to go to the forum by now.

Liz - glad you found us! I have a man with the same last name except with little dashes over the u asking to be my facebook friend. Since I'm so useless on facebook I didn't do anything about it! I hope Dandy makes it... here I just call NANA and he would go to a trained carer. I wouldn't even know where to start looking after a very young bird!

Vici - love your avatar!
