Hi Mariane,
Thank you for visiting my page and the words of encouragement for the trapped miners. Unless the federal government finds signs of them in the fifth hole they're drilling now, it looks as if the mine will be their tomb. How sad. I'm glad your Aussie mining outcome turned out well. The families want a bigger hole drilled with a cage lowered down with rescuers, but the latest hole drilled showed some collapsing from the mountain bumps and drilling, so the government doesn't want to allow the bigger drilling hole either. Partially because the trapped miners are so many thousands of feet inside the mountain. I don't know how deep your miners were. On a brighter note, let me bring you one of my garden flowers as a gift . Is your area of Austrailia dry like ours in Utah or tropical or ? My stepdaughter spent a semester in Austrailia and had some fantastic photos. I would love to visit someday, but it's hard to work in now with my husband's and grandchildren's schedules. So I settle for all the marvelous photos and explanations on this site. And meeting people like you is icing on the cake. And I'm sorry about the message from Smith above. That fraudulent spam showing up on this site is a pain. Hopefully, Gath can fix the problem, at least temporarily. Have a great day!

Thanks for dropping in, Marriane. My knee had packed in due to a nasty bike accident many years ago together with the onset of the ageing process.
Its hard to have that sense of peace with a teenage family, but they do grow up. My 1& only son is now a father himself and a delight to be with, and the two girls now have their own teenage or pre-teens to deal with. By the way, where's Barooga?

Thanks for your comments re Shikia, Mariane. I don't get to post as often as I used to and shortly will drop off the radar all together as I get myself to Tassie. Families do generally pull together in times of adversity but I think that it's something that we all do.

Now I can place you! My sister has the same problem. She is on the NSW side of the Murray opposite Boundary Bend. Very dry there, too.
The floods missed my part of Gippsland, but rain has been OK provided there's some spring rain. Forecasts don't look good... and my son is one of the forecasters. Meanwhile the weather is perfect for the beach.

Hello Mariane - thanks for visiting my page recently and glad that you enjoyed my photos.
I was reading your comment above about sayings and remembered reading one on a Ginger Meggs comic strip while eating lunch and doing a sudoku puzzle in the West Australia newspaper today. And would you believe, when I went to look for it to quote it, I had thrown it in the recycle bin. So I've just retrieved it and here it is, although you've no doubt heard it before:
"I stood up to be counted and someone took my seat!"

Hello Mariane - no, I'm definitely not a professional photographer, I just like taking photos for my own pleasure and for my family and friends and posting on here. I did join the local Photographic Society but only went to one meeting, I didn't feel it was for me. I just like to take what I like and when I like. I've done a few trips out of town lately with friends and we all like to take our cameras with us and I enjoy that. I even take it with me to work in case I see something different on the way I want to take, and sometimes when I just go for a walk.
Cheers,
Anne

Mariane, thanks so very much for dropping by to visit with your kind words of condolence and comfort. These are dark days, but the encouragement and support of friends from near and far really help. I'm dropping off a bottle of Niagara ice wine for you to share with friends after dinner.

Gday Mariane, its been ages since I last dropped in. Hope this note finds you and yours well.
I was just reading what you said on easy about bushfires this season. I agree with you completely, we're in for a bad season and what's green now is only fuel for the fires. With the current water restrictions, I no longer water my herbs and they haven't seen any real rain for over a week and this past weekend was a scorcher! They're not looking too crash hot. I can feel an international rain-dance coming on!

Hi, Mariane!

Thanks for visiting my page. I always enjoy the chitchat from you Aussie women! You have such a great sense of humor. I, too, am amazed at how the world seems to have shrunk since hooking up with the sudoku site! Although I've never been to Australia (it's on my wish list!), I feel I have a pretty good idea of what life is like there after chatting with all you good folks and seeing all the wonderful photography. You truly live in a paradise! Hopefully, I'll get to meet you someday!

Cheers!

Mariane - thanks for your note! I hope your recovery work at school has gone okay - that is a big UGHHH. Did you say what level you teach and I just forgot? I teach high school math (mostly the really bright 9th graders, at least this year) and work with our kids that go to competitions outside the school.
I am hoping to retire in two years if we can swing the finances.
I am enjoying the weekend. My dog and I took about a 3.5 mile walk this morning, I went to school to write a couple of letters of recommendation, and I decided I might just put grading papers off until tomorrow. It is too beautiful outside to do paperwork this afternoon.

Hey Marianne, I too have to fight with teenage sons for the computer...and like you one has started his TEE yesterday. Media (?) whatever that is...one year of study and I've yet to figure out what he did...it certainly didn't involve any study! He said he 'aced' the exam...lets hope he's right

Gday Mariane, just popped in to wish Sam all the best for his final year exams. My Beth is doing the same, English yesterday and I think Maths on Monday??? She is exactly the same about her 'study'! I think that is just another word for socialising. In fact, I think she started 'studying' for the English exam on Thursday night! Like mother, like daughter.
My philosophy about their schooling is just that, its theirs, not mine. My years of hell finished 27 years ago, OUCH! That hurt to admit.
About the animé, my youngest daughter is also into drawing in this style in a big way. Does your son 'draw' on the pooter, if so, what programs does he use and does he 'share' his pictures on any sites? Will ask D#3 which ones she uses...when she wakes up!

Mariane, thank you for taking the time to leave me a personal message. I know you must be as busy as I am getting ready for Christmas. You're right that we won't have snow in FL. Temp. is expected to be in the low 70'sF (20'sC). Having just arrived here on your page for the first time I already admire you for three things: putting up with teenage sons, your sense of humor, & your obvious appreciation of nature & children (noted in butterfly photo & caption!). Hope you & your family have a wonderful Christmas & I get to know you better in the new year. Maybe you can add some pictures of your famiy (teenage sons could help with that?) to your page in 2008.
