Shiela, we used painted beadboard for our kitchen backsplash over the sink area; white subway tile behind the cooktop. (Our look is English farmhouse kitchen ...) but I was tempted for a while to used stamped tin. P.S. A friend showed us a little handy trick for keeping tiles/grout clean when cooking ... stand a cookie sheet against the tiles so nothing splashes up on them. Have fun with your planning! (I remember it well ...)

Sounds like things are clipping along at your end, Shiela. It's exciting when the cabinetry and appliances make their appearance and the place really starts to look like a kitchen.
Today's the first day hubby and I have cooked and eaten an entire meal; that flu was really miserable and hung on like nobody's business. Now I'm playing catch-up with gardening and other household business.
Keep smiling--soon, you'll have a wonderful new kitchen!

I howled when I read your message. Our cabinets were the main reason for the many delays in our reno, some arriving damaged, etc. We also had a bulkhead in our original space that held the plumbing, and now our cabinets go to the ceiling as well. (Yes, I got a sturdy three-step stool for those times when I really need that clay baker or chafing dish that are stored way up high). I'm also just a shade over 5-feet-tall. I'm sure if we investigate our family trees, we'll find out we're related!

Hope you're not tearing your hair out during the renovation experience. (Our bathrooms were so much easier!) I'm sure all will look stunning very soon and you'll be happily ensconced in your new kitchen and whipping up scrumptious meals. Fingers crossed for you!

Shiela - I'm so sorry to hear of your Mum's passing. To live to such an age is amazing and I'm sure she lead a wonderful life. To still be in her own home would have been extra special for her.
