Hi Greg. I have replied to your query on Antarctica on your site. There is more, but I thought I should wait and see what interests you. It was indeed a wonderful experience.
Thank you for your compliments, they are much appreciated. I have printed my wife's photo on A4 paper and framed it.
We lived like gypsies for 30-odd years but had no camera for most of that time - pity because our two years in Port Moresby were just fascinating.
Since my retirement we have travelled back to USA, Canada and UK to visit our 'rellies' with side trips to St Petersburg and Singapore. Now we are broke, but happy.

Hello Ian, thank you for the compliment. My photos are just flukes, I see something I like, I take a photo. I've had cameras since I was 8yo and always loved taking photos. Now that I have started travelling I thought I would invest in a good digital camera with some money that was left to me. I bought a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ2A when my grandson was born in Albany so that I could e'mail photos to my other daughter in Wickham. I also have a couple of 35mm cameras I use.

Sarah Beth, my wife and I were visiting my cousin a couple of years ago and they owned a holiday cabin at Estes Park. While there, we were taken for a drive through the Rocky Mountain National Park. I couldn't resist photographing the stunning views we saw in this very beautiful part of the world. I will post a few more when I get the time.

Anne, thank you for the information on your camera. I have a confession to make - after I posted the question I remembered that if you click on one of the Flickr photos it tells you which camera was used. So I looked up the panasonic site and discovered that I had seen a similar camera just last weekend and was really impressed by it's capacity - 12 times optical zoom and an image-stabilised lens.
The thing that struck me about your photos was the quality of the photos - good, vivid colours and clear photos. I'll have to start dropping hints around the family.
But what impressed me most is that you seem to have an eye for a good photo, and that is an art.

Ian, you certainly know how to pay compliments. Thank you. Especially with such beautiful photos of your own with such vivid colours. It was only by luck that I just came into your page and saw this posting to me, I would normally look in my own page for postings to me.
with the hinting. You never know, if you've been a good boy Father Christmas may have noticed, so you had better look under the tree on Christmas morning.

Oh, Ian, I'm sorry. It wasn't actually a hint, but if I wasn't in your site to have another look at your photos and just checked the comments, I probably wouldn't have seen the message to me.
I have just been busy uploading photos into Picasa because a couple of my friends want to see my photos from Peru, and I think I've finally worked out how to do it. They are not for public viewing though, so I'm waiting to hear from them to see if I've done it correctly. If I had a way of getting your e'mail address I would send you an invitation to view them.

Ian - I have just spent a very enjoyable time viewing your photos on flickr. A very pleasant viewing it was too. Some brought back memories from my youth - cobbled alleyways and little shops, beach huts on windswept beaches. Others - recent trips to Australia (pelicans) Thankyou.
I have most of mine on webshots but will be placing the ones from my recent trip on flickr.

Hi Ian, unfortunately, I don't have CP's e'mail address. I have a few addresses from our regulars so perhaps CP has some of the same as me. Maybe check with her and see whose she has.

Ian, Until now we haven't met, but I have admired your photography since you have started sharing it on the site. Having just come from a trip to your flickr site, I am in awe of your talent. The pictures are just spectacular. You have a wonderful gift and I thank you for sharing it. I am partial to the balloon shots, because I still plan on going up soon. I keep giving my family hints, but they don't seem to catch on....hmmmmm, wonder why.

Merry Christmas Ian.
I've been bottling in my kitchen today so have just cooked up a few cyber bottles as well.
Just thought I’d drop you in a bottle of home made LEMON CORDIAL. It’s fantastic with water and with soda water. Cheers.
Ingredients:
Juice of 7 large lemons
Grated rind of 5 large lemons
1 kg sugar
1.5 litres of water
25g citric acid
Method:
1.In a large pan, boil up sugar, water, grated peel and citric acid.
2.Take off the heat and add juice, If preferred, this may be strained.
3.Bottle whilst still hot into clean, sterilised (in oven ) bottles

LD/WA thank you for your kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed my photography, it gives me great pleasure to know that others appreciate it. Thank you also for your Christmas greetings, I will pass them on.
I visited your fair State a few years back when my Dad and I stopped off at Seattle. We were driven up from Portland by one of my American cousins and did the usual stop at Mt St Helens. After an overnight and a breathtaking visit to the Boeing factory, we were driven over to Denver by another of my cousins. It was all a big adventure. Unfortunately, Dad has gone to the place in heaven they reserve for good Generals.

Ian - I wrote a comment on the Dec. 19 Medium page about your gorgeous orchid photo, but it disappeared (the comment, not the orchid!!). I love that picture & now I have come to your page only to discover many other of your wonderful photos on Flickr. I especailly love the flower shots. Didn't realize that you are a world traveler! Hope you'll continue to post more photos for us to enjoy. Merry Christmas

Ian - just went back to read ALL the comments here & saw your remark about spending your kids' inheritance. The tour guide we had in NZ asked all of us on the bus one day if we were enjoying our SKI trip. We didn't do any skiing so we couldn't figure out what she meant. She then explained that a SKI trip is an abbreviation for (S)pending your (K)ids' (I)nheritance!

Ian, Merry Christmas! The first class cabin of our Sudoku plane got trashed on the trip to Napa. The damage is being repaired now, and we'll be ready to cruise around the world for a New Year's bash at 35,000 feet. Extra security will be onboard to tame even the wildest party animals. Put on something VERY sparkly; tell us the airport nearest you, and we'll fly in to scoop you up!

Hello Ian, I just read your message on my page, thank you.
Yes,it is rather a long way to travel for Christmas. I drove from Albany across to Australind, (next to Bunbury), had lunch with my son, then continued on to Perth, where I stayed with a friend for the night. Flew to Karratha which takes just on 2 hrs then a 50km drive to Wickham. It's worth it, my two daughters live here and four of my six grandchildren. I leave here on the 1st January and will be taking my oldest Grand daughter back to Albany with me for a couple of weeks.
It sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas with your family. A very Happy New Year to you all.

Ian, not at all! I blame my ethnicity for my sarcastic sense of humor...it gets me in trouble (3rd generation German and ? generaton Irish) We got a kick out of my brother taking up ballooning..he's afraid of heights. I didn't mean to offend with my suggestion of fighter pilot for a day. I assume your a vet...to borrow your phrasology, good on'ya!

Hi Ian. This is a generic message that I've posted to everyone, but take it to heart. I do hope you enjoy the new year.
2007 is around the corner. A whole new year coming up, and so much will happen during this coming year. I do hope that you and yours enjoy peace, happiness, good times, (chocolate for those of you who indulge), and should there be some sorrow that befalls you, I do hope you weather it well and stay strong and positive. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
