ooohh...I just watched Benicio - Ice and a SLICE! That man...those dimples, his voice...I'm being shallow but he could remove my fluffy socks anytime.

Shallow? Puhleeze. Where were you when we were dishing on sexy men in films and once we got started on the Benecio, we could hardly stop. No apologies ever necessary amongst us girls, et al.

I don't know if they said Bottle Shock was based on real events but, if it was, do you know if the carry on scene actually happened? If it didn't, it should have. It was too wonderful.

Watched Gran Torino and like Mary BL was left with the feeling that is was a truly great comment on life. The younger actors weren't overshadowed by Clint but their inexperience was obvious at the start. Somehow didnt seem to matter by the end.
Australia from an Aussie point of view was groan at the beginning. However, all was forgiven when Hugh took off his shirt. Loved the film but believe Nicole was miscast. Another less known Aussie would have been a better choice. Much better seen on the big screen than on a video I would suggest.

Forgot to put in Bolt. Absolutely fantastic animation movie. Must see for Travolta fans as the dog, but its the cat that steals the show. (As it should.)

Bottle Shop isn't actually 'on' here yet..it will be showing for 3 days the week after next as a 'special'. Must make an effort. I believe it is based on what was cutely referred to at the time as 'the Judgement of Paris'. I don't know how close it is to the reality. All this talk of Benecio, Hugh and Alan.....how will I ever calm down enough for beddiebyes!!!!!

The Reader - This has to be one of the best films I have seen for a long while. Perfectly crafted. Kate Winslet deserves her bafta, she really was superb. The young Michael (David Kross)really pulled it off, and Ralph Fiennes just added to the mix (his eyes haunting). A must see on your list - 9/10.
(I can't believe I paid over £2 for some apple liquorice and fudge 'Pick and Mix'. I needed to nibble though and I didn't fancy popcorn!).

Keep an eye out for Two Lovers with Isabella Rossalini, Gwenyth Paltrwo and Joauqin Phoenix. The NY Times liked it very much, praising the cast for nuanced performances. Since this may the Joaquin's last movie performance, a must see for me.

thanx Terry and André...will watch out for them.
Terry, FINALLY got to see The Upside of Anger(dvd!). I agree that Costner was tolerable in that one, he played his role with a subtlety I had thought beyond him. JA drove me bananas....as with the character in the annoying Serendipity...WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!!!!!AARRGGHHH

Question...to qualify as 'Chick-Lit' do the female characters HAVE to be infuriating?

I thought Joan Allan was a hoot and her character a hoot and a half. Nothing like the mamsy pamsy co-lead in Serendipity. But that's just me. SPOILER!!!!!!!!!! The guilt when JA realizes her husband was at the bottom of a dry well the whole time she'd been cursing him ... that was so fresh. Sorry you didn't enjoy it as much as I did.

I agree that JA was great when she discovered that...terrific acting, but why did she just namby-pamby think he had left her in the first place? Couldn't she have thought to give the chap the benefit of the doubt and report him missing?
Anyway the question was faceious....If the characters hadn't done what they did, there would not have been a story, although in the case of S (except for the adorable JC) that would not have been a loss!!

Okay, I'm over it. And nearly over Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro after Righteous Kill. I mean, really, how badly could they have needed the money? A total waste of time (grumble mumble). Should have been called Righteous Indignation for the feelings it engenders.

Sad to say I may not miss Joaquin Phoenix as much as I'd thought I might. Just read an interview with him that was so weird, the magazine's intro warned readers it was going to be weird. "I am an artiste." He didn't actually say that but it was the gist of his ramblings. Johnny Depp grew up and figured out he wasn't the center of the universe. Maybe Joaquin will as well.

Saw a quick interview with the director Laurent Cantet and a few scenes from the film 'Class'-("Entre les Murs"). Due out here next week. One year in the life of a French schoolteacher working in a tough multi-cultural section of Paris. Looks to be good.

I agree with Billy about Doubt. The acting was fantastic, the Meryl and the PSH were great. Viola Davies was brilliant in a small but meaningful role. The ending was indeed a bit contrived. It must be my age and schooling, but everything looked soooo familiar...scary!!!!
