Mary - Baker's Delight - but each franchise is different as the bakers can underdo the choc drops, the one in Myaree is very generous with his handfulls ...maybe he has large hands? i wonder if his buns are big too?

nearly forgot why i was here...The Reader...brilliant and Kate Winslett certainly deserved the oscar. I found the story profoundly moving...if you get a chance to see it - go. Bertie i agree...9/10

Saw Slumdog Millonaire - as they say, where did the 'i' go? Such a refreshing film. I was expecting it to be over rated, all the oscars, bafta's, blah, blah...but it was superb, wonderfully shot and deserving of all the awards it received. The casting was spot on. 9/10. There seem to be some good films on at the mo, the rest I'll catch on DVD. Oh I didn't buy 'pick and mix', wish I had bought the last bag of it at Woolworths...it was auctioned and got a £4,500 bid...bet there was no apple liquorice though...

Oh nearly forgot, one of the best scenes from Slumdog, without giving anything away, he just had to have that signature of his hero! at any cost.

A film made in Oz to critical acclaim has just been pulled from cinemas in Sydney. The film looks at inter-ethnic violence and it sparked violent brawls amongst a minority of film-goers. What an indictment!

As one from a nation that has NEVER had a race riot, I am shocked. Shocked.

The good news is that the film is still showing in some other cinemas ....maybe that says something about the clientele of the Greater Union chain???

Hi all - haven't been here in a while, mainly because I haven't seen a movie in weeks. Just wanted to agree with all that was said about Gran Torino and add one more thing - a movie that can keep my hubby awake for it's entirety (that man could sleep for Oz through movies) has got to be good. One thing that is important to me is the ending - this one was well thought out and extremely satisfacory. 9/10 from me as well.

Yes, Mary - I should visit more often and I should find my way to the movies more often too. There's so many about at the moment that I want to see. Intended to see 'Slumdog Millionaire' last week but got side tracked and probably won't make it this week. It'll be finished before I get there. I missed Frost/Nixon that way.

Slumdog Millionaire...definite goer...thought provoking mix of pathos and glam...worth seeing. Deserved a few Oscars..

Mary...hmm...interesting idea to ponder about the clientèle at certain cinema's. I'll certainly be seeing it. Couldn't ask for better publicity ...could you? Makes you wonder about the origin of the incendiary that sparked the violent brawls at the cinema... or am I just being cynical?

I have seen 3 movies in the last 4 days, which is amazing for me. So here goes.
No.1 - 'Secret Life of Bees' - before anyone asks, no, I hadn't read the book - now I simply must! Liked the movie and the cast. 7 out of 10. Would have given it an 8 but feel that the book will tell so much more. All the girls in it were wonderful as were the few males in it.
No.2 - (Warning - Kids movie) 'Hotel for Dogs'. Took 7yo grandie, who insisted that Poppy came as well, wasn't Colin thrilled? However, although completely far-fetched it was amusing enough. My Rating 5 out of 10, Emily's Rating 10/10 - she loves dogs.
No.3 - 'Changeling' - Wow! Absolutely harrowing! As if it wouldn't be enough to lose a child that way without everything else that happened to her. I liked Ange, didn't expect to. I liked CE's direction, loved the set and costumes. 8 out of 10 for that one.

TSLOB is a quick read and a good one. You'll enjoy it.

Agree with André The Reader was great. I loved the book and thought the movie did it justice.
Also saw a great little movie Dean Spanley. A quirky, unusual movie with terrific language, great acting...Peter O'Toole is still magnificent at 90ish, and a great little for-want-of-a-better-word moral. It is an English/NZ production... well worth seeing.

Agree Peter O'Toole is magnificent. Major Old Hunk. Alas, we've lost the king of Old Hunks, Paul Newman. [Moment of silence, please.] Who else is still working in their 70s+ who qualifies for this category?

Watched The no. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency tonight on the glorious aunty beeb. Part one of a six part series. They were not going to film it but six million viewers wanted more after the 'one off' last year. Was a little disappointing to start with but then the humour came out. I wish I had had a bowl of sticky toffee pudding to eat whilst watching it...sigh...

Okay, Andre', I'm from the land of brownies and fudge. What is sticky toffee pudding and do you have a recipe?

Did anyone in Aus watch "Lost in Austen" played on the ABC last Sunday and last night? A great little story where the modern day heroine swaps places with Elizabeth Bennett in Pride and Prejudice. Lots of fun and a suprise ending (for me, anyway.)

I'm not sure I agree with Terry that CE is a Major Old Hunk. I grant you he was terrific in GT, but Hunk???? Maybe Major Old Talent?

OK Terry, how about Roger Moore, Robert Wagner and Robert Redford? All over 70, aged well and still breathing.

Terry - divine toffee dipping is, how can one say, like swimming with a tidal wave, it takes you by surprise not unlike a Longitudinal and Transverse Wave Motion...and that is just the first dip...

Roger Moore is a 'no-no' sorry I can't get the image out of my head when he played The Saint with that silly halo over his head...it always looked as though a doughnut was going to fall on his head and knock him out.

Sean Connery made eyes at me on location once. Though happily married and with young child in tow, I almost took him up on it.

And, yes, I do know Sean Connery makes eyes at anything under 40 with a pulse in a skirt. I was just in the right place at the right (?) time.

Given this blog's theme, I should have said on the location of The Presidio. A wretched movie. A must miss though I lived three doors from one of the locations.

Hard to call John Hurt a hunk at any age, but certainly an Old Talent.
