Just catching up, sounds like everyone is putting in great effort, congrats to one and all. I am still at the plateau, but have been a little naughty as of late, but at least no gain. We finally have temps above freezing here so going to try to get some outdoors walking done this week. Good luck everyone and keep up the good work

great positive attitude, the brighter weather will help pick you up and that plateau will soon be a thing of the past.

Today I managed to lose 1/2 pound. I have no idea how I did that. Unlike Keith, instead of working extra hard this week, I have done everything I shouldn't do. Rosemary said a rested body was a good thing...this week, I should have been arrested for all that I have done. Today is Fat Tuesday, and celebrate I have, now I promise myself, and all of you, to get back on track during lent. Weight must go. Please ladies and gents, listen to a poor old lady's tale of woe...and be sure you keep on doing what has been good for you, and watch as I take lessons from all of you, to stay the course through thick and thick until I too become thin. Cheers all...as Rosemary say's 'water of course'..lol. Peace!

I lost 11 lbs so far ,its hard to believe because I eat all the time but good carbs not fun fu carbs ,its hard because I get goodies for Mom and Carly.
I do have Bryers carb smart butter pecan ice cream and there fudge bars , swiss miss diet hot coco's not bad so I drink that when I want something sweet.also that weight control oatmeal is good, high in fiber and protein the maple and brown sugar is really good.

Can someone please tell me why it is that the more I try to stay 'on track' the more I go 'off track'?

I think you are a little hard on yourself and you are doing really well.
Linda
Maybe you dont quite have all the ducks in order.
. change eating habits and make sure you have snack alternatives that fill the empty feeling and the sweet cravings also. here I have some weight watchers alternatives in chocolate - ice cream or a pudding, for when I get the need for a sweet taste and rice crackers as an alternative for a snack.
. increase your activity and change what you do so that you keep shocking your body into action. At the moment you are a little limited but as the weather improves so will what you can do and also your feeling of wellness once the sun starts to shine. I was doing lots of walking, the last few days I have been riding the exercise bike instead and my body is responding again.
. good sleep, helps your body to rest and they say burn calories while you sleep.
I have also bought some 'blackmores' Metabolism Advantage and 'blackmores' Sugar Balance to help wind up my metabolism and reduce sugar cravings. If you need more information on these products or what may help you go to the blackmores website and read about the products.
All these things plus the love and support of all those here on site is what is driving me to lose weight. I know how frustrating it is to try hard and not lose anything. I have been there and done that many times over but this time my determination to achieve wellness for myself and my family and also not to embarass myself here on site is very powerful. hope this helps you to move forward Linda. We are all here to help you as much as we can with love and support BUT you have to want to be successful too.

Linda, rosemary's words are very well put. I would emphasize the part about her determination. For me, that's the key. In a way, it's a lot like quitting smoking. I had to be 100% committed. 99% and the craving won every time. I'm sticking with the weight loss and health program now because I'm 100% committed and determined to make it work this time. I'm just fed up with being overweight, out of shape and low energy. I don't want to live like that any more. We're all here trying to lift ourselves and each other up together through sheer force of will. For me that's very powerful. I hope you can figure out how to make it be powerful for you too.

Weigh in for week 3. I have lost 500g this week so I am now 71.5kg. In US pounds I am now 156 pounds. Aiming for 150 pounds. I am really happy with that as I didn't do any exercise at all this week. Very tired and as of Thursday been fighting a rotten cold and it has won. I am still not eating any bad food so obviously that was the biggest part of my weight gain. Can't wait to get back on the exercise bike (when I'm better)so I can see how I go next week.

Very inspirational words, KEITH. Thanks.

A simple idea from today's newspaper ...

''Sneak in Fitness at TV Time''

The next time you settle in to watch one of your favorite shows, why not sneak in some fitness intervals? Make a promise to yourself that every time a commercial comes on, you'll get up and move during the interlude. (And, no, walking to the kitchen for a bag of chips does not count.) Some activities you might try: simple squats, jumping jacks, ab crunches, or even marching in place. Keep a set of light weights next to the TV and grab them for a quick set of bicep curls. Choose a different exercise during each commerical break to work out various parts of your body. Those brief breaks can add up to a real health benefit!

Weigh in report for week 8: No change this week, so, still 16 pounds lighter. The way I see it, 2 pounds a week is not bad. I didn't have a very good week, 5 good days and 2 bad. I think the bad won.

Thanks roesmary and congratulations to you. Wonderful progress.

Deb, good for you.

Hello everyone. Not so great news. Gained another pound back. And after being smoke free for 20 days, I had 2 ciggies this weekend. UGH! I think I am going to stop going out for awhile so that I don't have all the temptation staring me in the face. The good news is that I haven't had any since and I still have the determination to quit. I don't really see this as a failure, just a minor set-back. Peer pressure just got the best of me this weekend.
Keep up the good work everyone. I'll be checking back in periodically to cheer you on!

Rosemary--I wish I could tell you that they were horrible, but in reality, they were absolutely wonderful :(

Jaz--Thanks. 102 would put me back where I started, so that's why I still look at it as a minor setback and not a major failure :)

Hi everybody
today is my 8 week weigh-in. I am so happy to be able to report a 21/2 lb loss this week. Fot the period I am 91/2 lbs lighter than I was at the start of the year. I've lost 31/4 inches from my waist, my former clothe are very baggy and comfty because I have to roll them at the top to keep them up and look like my bum is gone, and them I can get into a size smaller pair of fashionable low slung jeans and my belly isn't hanging over and I look like I might still have a shape. Well we all have shapes, but you know what I mean. lol.The weather is warming up even though we still have snow on the ground, and Jazz and I were able to walk for a mile today. This is the first real exercise I've had in a good while. Jazz helped me by finding a lot of reasons to stop and sniff around which gave me a chance to catch my breath. Not having felt too great(a bad cold), I need to get back into the exercise bit slowly. The warming temps will help. When I started I said I'd like to lose 15 to 20 lbs by my birthday in May...it looks like I'll be able to do that and I'm so pumped its unreal!

Now that I find that I didn't break my arm patting my self on the back, I can tell the rest of you how well I think you're doing and how proud I am to be a part of such a great group of committed folks. Rosemary, your new picture says it all...you are doing so well, some class to you...two sizes smaller and STILL LOOSE...you go girl. Roses to you! Keith, WOW, 16 lbs is tremendous, and your attitude is even better. Angie, SMACK,SMACK...consider your hands out of shape the next time you reach for those stinky cigarettes...lol, really though, I'm sorry that you enjoyed them. I wish that having them after laying off for awhile would reinforce how nasty they can taste. That being said, I think you have your finger on what it will take to get back on track, and its great that you aren't giving up. Its really hard trying to do both, but it can be done, and you can show others that while its hard, if you want to badly enough you can do it! Hang in there and we're with you all the way. We knew it wasn't going to be easy. Keep on keeping on. Deb, Looks like you are right on track too. Good work. Expecting great things from everybody, and if at first it doesn't work, change up, start over, but never give up the dream of being healthier! It doesn't take a lot to help, so all is never lost as long as you BELIEVE in yourself, and know that you are worth every effort in the book. To our friends who cheer us from the sidelines...thanks your support and tips mean a lot! Cheers to all...Weight Will go!

Stay away from catalogs everyone....

With more than twelve billion catalogs being mailed annually, it's little wonder that marketers are distributing mailing lists anywhere possible. In one particularly cruel move, the proprietors of a chocolate catalog purchased the mailing list of a weight-loss organization. Chocolate sales rose almost immediately, but the weight-loss group wised up and now keeps it clients' names to itself.

Weigh in for me today and I have lost nothing. I haven't gained either but I am angry with myself for taking things so easy this week. Didn't get on my exercise bike for over a week and I succumbed to some biscuits (huge) made at the local bakery on Friday. Really have to get back on track or all my good woek will be gone before I know it. Why is it that weight goes back on so fast but comes off slow?

Week 9 weigh in 5th March 2007
BOO HOO this week, no weight loss but still some loss of cms so not a totally wasted week.
have been doing more and more exercise, up to 10 klms on exercise bike or 5klms on bike and a walk or water aerobics.
maybe it is some muscles returning instead of the fat.
everyone else who is doing the healthy lifestyle bit keep going and we will all achieve our goals.
Deb
just go back to what you were doing and I am sure it will start to come off again.
Billy
how is the progress on the giving up ciggies going??

that is just cruel by the marketing group.

Hey - I have not checked in for a very long while, but as of this morning I have lost a total of 28 pounds - 2 stone - 12.75 kg. I figure I have lost 20% of my target! At least that is what the weight charts would have me believe...

Hi everyone and a special hello to Glenn what wonderful results.(and well done everyone else)
Well following my holiday in Spain I tried to step lightly on the scales - and it worked. Total weight gone in 9 weeks 7.4 kgs I actually lost in Spain (should that become the title of a song or movie?)I am still behind in my original targets but am happy not to have gained on holiday.
The sun is out at this moment so off to walk.
If anyone would like to check my page there are a few photos of the swollen river Dordogne.
Oh my hips are down 2 cm too but waist the same.

Rose - I have a real problem being with people who 'light up'. I can go weeks and then one will be in my face and I HAVE to have one - major headspin, tastes awful - but how come i sort of enjoy it? I think I am still in my rebellious stage....had one yesterday after ....does menthol count?

Billy, I had quit once for 5 years and tried one out of curiosity and was instantly back on them. This time I've been quit for 7 or 8 years and I keep telling myself to never let my guard down. I hope you can get away with just having one once in a while. I never could do that.

March 6th is the weigh in day resuts for my 9th week. The scales show a 1/2 lb loss, and the tape measure shows another 1/4 inch off of my waist line. What makes me feel even better is that I can see the fat deposits that really bothered me in my upper body really disappearing...whooo hooo! My favorite dress slacks are falling off, but other things are just a little loose wouldn't you know.Hey GLENN, and keith, fantastic results! Gannie, isn't it great to go on holiday and STILL lose weight....wonderbar! Everyone else, keep on keeping on, nothing gained is a big loss, and baby loss adds up to major loss over time.Oheers to all.

I need to recheck before hitting the submit button to avoid the typos above, but think you can understand. Billy, I had the same problem when I was trying to quit smoking, until I finally realized that I was my own worst enemy every time I gave in after ridding my body of the nicotine. You are not fighting the smoking need so much I think as you are the habit of smoking! Perhaps you can try using a lemon stick(or other hard candy) and holding it like a cigarette, or maybe a straw, when that urge hits you, then walk away from the area where the smoking is taking place. You can do it, but just need to find a workable substitute that will get you past the moment while you fight those urges. Its really hard but keep trying and you'll get there. It took me about 5 years of trying many things to stop, but I finally made it about 20 years ago! You will too.
