The Feast-time of the Year
(Dora Read Goodale)

This is the feast-time of the year,
When plenty pours her wine of cheer,
And even humble boards may spare
To poorer poor a kindly share.
While bursting barns and granaries know
A richer, fuller overflow.
And they who dwell in golden ease
Blest without toil, yet toil to please.

Gathering Leaves
(Robert Frost)

Spades take up leaves
No better than spoons,
And bags full of leaves
Are light as balloons.

I make a great noise
Of rustling all day
Like rabbit and deer
Running away.

But the mountains I raise
Elude my embrace,
Flowing over my arms
And into my face.

I may load and unload
Again and again
Till I fill the whole shed,
And what have I then?

Next to nothing for weight,
And since they grew duller
From contact with earth,
Next to nothing for color.

Next to nothing for use.
But a crop is a crop,
And who's to say where
The harvest shall stop?

Tami - my thoughts go out to the Frith family. We have a dear family friend, she went to school with my daughter and dated my son for years. She got leukaemia at 12 and went into remission after treatment, then at 19 she got it again and was given a bone marrow transplant from her brother. She nearly died - that was one of the longest days of our lives - but she came good, will always have some minor health problems, but is now 36 - so that is a triumph over the disease. I wish the Frith family as good a result or better.

Gail - I know how you feel. I miss my hubby when he goes away even if I occasionally complain about him being under my feet.
And Rena - wow - a flight with vdV - who could pass that up? Hope she has a great time.

Hi, All! I'm just popping in without reading to wish those in the US a Happy Thanksgiving. Besides all the food and family, may all of us throughout the world take a moment today to think of at least one way in which we are blessed and express thanks for that. I hope you all have a wonderful day! I hope to get back later to read the 7 or 8 pages (so far) since I signed off last night.

Mine too. I lost my father to Leukemia. I don't think that I want to think about this any more. My Thanksgiving dinner is almost ready.

Now I can breathe - my daughter, sil and grandies left early this morning to drive to a town called Roma in Qld for a gathering of sil's family. It's a 6 hour drive and I'm a worrier. Just got the call, they've arrived. I'm happy now - that is, until Sunday afternoon when they do the return trip. My poor grandson suffers from travel sickness and had a bad trip. I know the feeling, I have suffered from it too.

I'm back!

Slow day today - that's what happens when half the site is celebrating a holiday!

You wouldn't believe it - Ally got a puncture about a km into the bike ride! At the first opportunity I went home and got Ebob's bike. A father fixed Ally's puncture and another girl rode it as her bike got a terminal injury.

No kids were injured - yay! It was a looooong ride and most of the kids made it without complaining. We might be going to do another one later in the year so they can watch the Navy do fire control and/or rescue training.

Cyn, I am exactly the same. It took a whole day for my girls to get to my mothers and a whole day for them to get back. I couldn't relax until they got to where they were going!

Deep breath, what is left to do today???

Nothing to eat in the cupboards so I'd better get something to fill them. Bowling after school. Ally will be rehearsing tonight for tomorrow.

Tomorrow will be singing (I think it might be coffee morning too), an Ally's performance. Hubby will be working on an assignment and studying for a test.

Sunday is baseball.

I just has a reminder that I hadn't answered June's question about the white tape.

It worked very well for a few days, then the grass just looked too green on the other side and he tested it out. The barrier is now re-erected, but with the tape it can be an abbreviated barrier, which is much better.

I was reminded because the lawn mower just tried to dismantle a part of the barrier again...

Hi Suzy, glad the bike ride went well, even with the few hicups.
Have managed to get to the wall in the pooter room and have filled all the screw holes(from the shelving). Might get the first undercoat on the skirting boards while the filler is drying. Hubby has been helping by moving some of his mess but now watching the cricket!. But then I am relaxing on here! We will only be painting part of one wall where we are putting the cupboards.

The rain is coming... According to the radar Ebob is getting wet at Jamberoo. For those of you who don't know what Jamberoo is, it's a water based theme park!

Suzy, if Jamberoo is a water theme park, wouldn't Ebob be getting wet anyways??

June, I have asked for a painted room for my birthday. The whole house needs doing but I only asked for one room. We have decided to do the lounge room. With the new lounge suite and a coat of paint....

Thank you to everyone for keeping my friend and her family in your thoughts and prayers. Prayer is a powerful thing, and when it is coming from all over the world, I am sure it will help. Luckily the girl is young and strong. She has a strong will and is going to fight like crazy. Knowing people around the world care is going to help her.

Go get your shopping done. I have my kids bathroom painted blue with spongebob and fish stickers on the walls. It is supposed to look like you are underwater. It also helps to hide the blue toothpaste stains the beastie boys get on the walls.
