Allow Yourself To Fight
Poet: Julie Hebert, © 2012
There are some days you may feel,
As if things just aren't going right.
No amount of attempts to avoid,
You step into the big mud puddle despite!
On these days to give up would be easy,
You'd like to just walk away.
And sometimes taking a step back,
May be exactly the right way.
But at a point you'll have to decide,
If you're going to let them win.
This is the time that you'll look deep inside,
And see if you have it within.
When you are ready to take the next step,
And show that you are ready to fight.
Avoid what you can and it's okay if you can't,
Cause know matter what, you'll be all right.

Found the owner of the bull. He lives about 3 miles away. They were trying to load him in a trailer a few days ago to sell him, and the bull escaped and vanished. Tomorrow morning they'll be here with a trailer, and we'll load him up with help from Rede.

Just what I needed Theresa. I am off to help someone and not walk away.
A beautiful post.

Heidi, glad you found the owner of the bull.
Harley was a good boy at the vet. He has a swollen lymph node but she could not find any infection. Harley is on antibiotics and hopefully that will clear up the infection he has, even though she could not find it.

TAMI, hope Harley is soon well.

The stray bull arrived here totally freaked out and scared. Once he got together with Rede he calmed down considerably. So tomorrow morning we'll take both bulls into the barn to keep that stray calm. Rede will go anywhere I ask him to go, as long as I make it worth his while. A bucket of feed, with me leading him, and several other people following behind the 2 bulls, should quietly get them up. Remember, he broke loose a few days ago when they tried to load him into this same trailer.

I thought two bulls would be aggressive toward each other. Rede must be an exception to that male dominance attitude.

No, he's so much bigger than the stray bull that there's no threat to his dominance. The stray bull is 2-3 years old, and probably weighs 1300-1400 pounds. Rede weighs about 2500 pounds.

So, do I sign a temporary contract? It means a pay cut I think...
Another teacher was originally given the classes I have. He decided he couldn't take it. He was basically standing at the door stopping them from escaping and then cleaning up the mess afterwards. He felt like a failure as a teacher and decided it was in the kids best interests if he handed it over to someone else. I am not having quite as bad a time as he did but I think I am getting more support than he did because he quit. If I sign a contract I'm saying I'll stick around until the end of term.... sigh.

Zusy, temporary contract means regular work I am guessing, therefore regular income. Pay cut seems unfair but knowing you will have money each week??
You are a smart cookie what does your gut feel about it?

Theresa, loved your poem but took the sentiment a different way to Nola.
Have a 50 odd year old child at work who keeps on throwing temper tantrums (friend of a friend of the boss) spoke to the boss last week and she told me to bounce her back....Well I did this week, she finally came back to work today, still not good but I have 3 days off now.

Grrr Broni, at least I am choosing to be around the children! And yes, I get temper tantrums, but you shouldn't. Enjoy your time off and I hope things are better when you go back.
The pay cut would be the casual allowance. Quite a chunk (25% I think) but I might earn a day or two of holidays or sick days.
Ask me tomorrow how I feel about it. The biggest problem is not that the kids are challenging (most of the kids are challenging), the problem is that my year 7 and year 9 classes I have for both math and science. So I had a double year 9 today for science and I have a double math with them tomorrow. Oh, and a single science before the double math - 3 periods in a day. They threw tantrums because I wouldn't do a prac with them today. As if!! Lit bunsen burners... yikes, can't even imagine what they might have got up to.

Suzy, even with a little less pay it would mean 8 weeks of paid work which could mean more money at the end. It could also establish a good reputation for you at that school which could mean even more work in the future. And there should be both sick and holiday leave as well. Do your math and also look at your own health and stress levels. If those kids learn to respect you they will soon settle down.
Big weekend at bowls. Our annual carnival and fund raiser. I am playing tomorrow, two shorter games with some prize money at the end.
But first I am making the pasta salad for lunch (75 people!). All the vegies, almonds etc are done. Just have to cook the pasta in the morning.

Suzy, only you know if your health will suffer from a full time job. That should be your first consideration, am I strong enough to do this day after day with no break. How long till end of term? Pay wise, you will get paid less per day, but guaranteed more days. As has been said, only you can decide. I think it is cute your hubby called from out of town to remind you of your meds. I think he likes you!
Ahhh, June answered one of my questions to SUZY, 8 weeks till end of term. That is not too bad, not like you had 4 or 5 months you are committing to do. Thanks for the info, June.
OH JUNE, pasta salad for 75! How many pounds/kilos of pasta do you cook for that recipe? Not sure I would have a pot large enough to accommodate that much. Good luck with your bowl games, hope you win the prize.
HI Broni, can you clarify a statement for this not-an-Aussie? You wrote 'spoke to the boss last week and she told me to bounce her back.' Just cannot cypher what that means. Enjoy your 3 days off work, hope you have a fun time.
HEIDI, just noticed Gil has a hurricane named for him, somewhere in the east Pacific. Hope the storm is not as unpredictable as he is
Awww, now I understand a bit more. The bull has to be in same field as the cows to act possessive of them. That makes sense I suppose. good luck today getting that stray bull into the trailer today.
Horrible itching night, till I found one more of the steroids tablets. Was the wee hours before I slept more than an hour or so without waking myself by scratching. already started back again this morning. I just might go to urgent care again this morning. Just sitting in my chair yesterday in a cool but not as cold as I have had to keep my apartment was miserable. Tonight I am wanting to go out for Jazz on the Porch, and it IS on the porch, might get very itchy! I missed a performance brought in to us last night, could not think of putting clothing back on to go and sit again. I do happen to have my yearly dermatologist appointment Monday, perhaps he can do something about this but I do not want to itch so badly till then! Just go to the doc today, Tricia, and get on with life.
OK, enough complaining, thanks for listening. That is one problem living alone, no one with whom you can share your complaints hehehe.
Hugs to each of you, with extras, till later.

I can only echo what Tricia said. Your health is your #1 criteria. You need to be careful about having another stroke. The next one could be a LOT worse.
The stray bull is gone. It was a bit more interesting than expected to corral him and load him. It turned out that he was stone blind from pinkeye. So 4 of us made a slow moving, quiet, wall of sound (gently talking to him) and we were able to move him where we wanted. The only problems were when IH got impatient, and ran at him to get him through a gate. Then he bolted to the side. IH did that twice. So we'd have to back off and start again. But we succeeded and he's off to the stockyard. All he needs is 1 shot of LA200, an inexpensive antibiotic used to treat pinkeye, and he'll be fine. The truck driver will let the sale barn know that, so they can make sure that whoever buys him will treat him.

Suzy, decisions, decisions, decisions!
The oldest grandie went for her sleep deprivation tests this morning to see how the epilepsy is. Turns out it's not getting better. She fell asleep during the test for a few minutes and from the spikes in her brain activity, she would be having seizures if it weren't for the medication she's on. It looks like she does not have the kind of epilepsy that she will outgrow. So we will all deal with it. At least the med is keeping it under control for now.
Another one of my cats, Snowball, is going to the vet this afternoon. He has been very lethargic and moving very slowly. He's only about 7 years old, but he's a very big boy. I have trouble lifting him. He's not really overweight, just a big guy. Fingers crossed, please.
Ongoing problems with FIL - he has stopped taking his heart medication and super-duper vitamin that he is on. MIL is depressed and refusing to go outside the facility at all. Sigh.
Off to get a few things done. Hope to be back later. Take care everyone.

Afternoon all. Trica...thanks for asking all of the questions I too had for Broni and Heidi. I had already read June's response and knew there were only 8 weeks left in the school..hehe. Broni, hope it was a good time to be off for you, r&r can do wonders. Suzy...Lots of advice that I agree and would offer, but you must now weigh it all and make the best choice you can. Kids do learn to appreciate a teacher willing to stay and try to work with them much more than one who isn't around on a more or less basis...keep us posted...no matter what choice you make, you will most likely question yourself later....we do have a way of second guessing ourselves on this thread often.
Tricia...get to the doctor...itching is horrible to put up with for so long...I know. A shot can often end it in short order if its something that will respond to epinephrine...wishing you well and hoping you'll feel up to going to the jazz concert on the porch...or was that the one you missed...no matter enjoy whatever ich-free.
Peace all...Have a great day/night until we meet again.

MizT and Mama, my boss gave me permission to do what she should have done and let her know her behaviour is unacceptable (bounce her back) My concern was the repercussions with her being a friend of a friend of the bosses.
Well she threw a major tantrum the other day, yelling and throwing things around so I walked in like thunder and told her the tantrums had to stop, it was unprofessional and not to speak to me again until she calmed down. Trust me I do not like confrontation and I was shaking afterwards. She huffed and puffed around the place then went home because she was too upset and did not come back for two days. When she came back yesterday I think she spoke 3 words to me all day and that was because she had to put a call through to me.
This was all over one payment she could not balance even after I had given her a detailed list of what was being paid. Give me strength!

Suzy, thinking of you as you make this decision. Your health is more important. Remember, kids tend to act up for a sub/temp more than they would a regular teacher.

Snowball is home. He had bloodwork done and it is being sent to the University of Guelph for testing. We should hear within a few days. It looks like his neck is painful, so they gave him a shot for the pain. He also has meds to take because there seems to be something amiss with his ears. So now I have two cats to medicate. Yikes. He is currently hiding in the fireplace. Yes, the fireplace. It was cleaned out in the spring, so we are just leaving him there for now. By tomorrow the pain medication should have fully kicked in.
Maggie is going on holidays starting Sunday morning, so I will be looking after her cats and the fish. They will be back the following Friday evening. They're going to Canada's Wonderland near Toronto, and then to Niagara Falls for a few years. The girls should enjoy that.
BTW, Snowball turned 10 yesterday. I seriously did not think that he was that advanced in age. He was born on Maggie's birthday.

OK, a long, involved answer to Mama's questions coming up, skip on by if you want.
MAMA, I did get to the doc today. I got another steroid injection, a referral to dermatologist (I happen to have my yearly skin cancer screening appointment scheduled for Monday) and she prescribed more steroid pills, some cream to apply, and something stronger/different than benadryl for the itching. Gave it a name, uticaria, or common name hives. Just means a kind of reaction to substance unknown. But looking it up today when I got home, my symptoms, what made it worse and better, it's coming and going, the burning in mouth and lips, are classic uticaria.
Only problem is, I did not get the scripts today. The fax had not arrived at pharmacy by the time I got there. I will check first thing in the morning, and go get it if it is there, unless they can deliver in morning. If it is not there, I will call the doc office and get it faxed again. AAGGGGGGGGGH, I hate when our modern conveniences break down.
AND I know to call 911 if the mouth and lips burning get worse or I have problem breathing.
I think you are right, I might need the eppi if this does not resolve. for now, this is considered acute, and eppi is usually reserved for Chronic, lasting over 6 weeks. I cannot imagine last night for 6 weeks!! I do know to get in a cool shower if it gets bad, that helps for a while. So does cold compresses and have those ready for tonight.
I did miss the Jazz on the Porch plus the singing group that came here Wednesday night. One thing that makes it get worse is heat and sweating. This was to be outside, and humidity is high. I do not want to make it worse.

Heidi, why am I not surprised that Gil made it more difficult today. Don't you wish sometimes you could just send him back to the house when he does these things? I know you need his help, but you really must put up with a lot of hindrance to get that help. Huuumm, do you think perhaps he wants you to send him back to the house, so he does not have to do the work?
Interesting that the bull was blind but owner had not treated him. I do hope the new owner takes better care of the bull.
Theresa, I am sorry to hear that your granddaughter's epilepsy is not the kind she will outgrow. I am very glad that the meds are working for her. I agree with others, you do have a lot going on now. I hope Snowball recovers quickly and the carers at the facility can cope with your parents in law. Hopefully they have more experience and can work with both of them. HUGS to you, dear and come vent whenever you need. We do care and are here for you.
BRONI, now I understand and sorry you had to do something that was difficult for you that perhaps the boss should have handled?? Glad you got it done though. Hope your co worker gets over her huff soon. It is no fun working with someone like that.
OK, hugs to each of you, with extras. BTW, steroids do make me a LOT more talkative. They also keep me awake sometimes. So if I show up in the wee hours rambling on, the medication made me do it!!

The bull's owner had been in the hospital for necrotic intestine, and only got home 2 days ago. He has someone else taking care of the cattle until they can all be caught and sold. I can't blame him for not knowing that the bull was blind. There are still 4 cows left on his farm, that they haven't caught yet, but they're still inside the fence. They're also so wild that nobody can get near them. The trucker is trying to convince the guy taking care of them (such as he is) that he needs to feed them grain in the barn.... starting near the door and moving the feeder back until they can trap the cows. So far, the guy hasn't done that yet. I hope those cows don't get loose. I've heard that 2 of them are so crazy that they'll attack anybody they see.

Heidi, good to know you are feeling some better. Have you at least called a doc about the bloody diarrhea? That is not normal, you know.
HEIDI,thank you, I did have an itch free night after about 1 am. Best night's sleep I have had in a while. Got up at 9 and ran down my prescription, they had not found it at pharmacy until I called. They could not tell me when they could deliver, just sometimes this afternoon/evening, could not put me first for delivery, so I went to get it.
I was up in house for one hour waiting for them to fill it, eating breakfast in my chair and started having trouble breathing, drats. It goes with the urticaria, called angioedema, swelling of face, mouth, throat. When I got downstairs, one of my friends was sitting in lobby. I got her to ride with me, so if my SOB (medical term, short of breath) got worse, she could call 911 on cell phone. I was going right down to medical center area, could have driven myself to ER if I did not black out. Just felt better with someone in car for me. I took 2 steroid pills, breathing much better. Wondering now if trigger is connected with that water leak, if there is mold, mildew anywhere that water runs and is now in my rug. I do have another wet spot today.
SUZY, hope you rest up and feel much better.
Tami, good luck shopping. I think I remember you do not like to shop for yourself, but I am wishing you ease of finding your items in just your size, and on sale today for 50% off
Will you also be able to wear the clothes to school? Khaki pants go with almost everything. Your new checks sound nice, might make paying bills less painful.
Speaking of paying bills, mine are now soooo easy. I am using electronic banking, my bank pays my bills, I just have to click from a list I maintain on their website, type in the amount and go to next. I just fill in however many need paying, and hit send, bills paid. NO CHARGE from my bank for going electronic. I love it. I set it up so Joy could pay my bills anytime I am unable to, even if my computer is just down. It takes less than 5 minutes to pay my bills.
OK, I need a nap, I have had a busy week. I have taken car out 4 times this week, there have been months I have not been out that much. My fibro and aches and pains are gone, with all the steroids I am taking. Just wish I could enjoy it more, like being able to wear clothes and get out longer.
OH, must tell you a funny. Last night I needed to go to my car. I realized I had left cell phone and my credit card visible in console of car. Someone would break in for either of those. We are not supposed to be in lobby in a robe and slippers. I have one dress, really too big for me, and it was in the dirty clothes, I spilled food on it wearing it in house to keep nothing tight around waist (would break me out). So I pull out dress, and wear it, no bra, cause usually no one is about the public areas at 9 pm. I get off elevator and hear this male voice say 'HI Tricia'. He wa

This extra long, rambling post brought to you by the effects of steroid medication. Here is the remainder.
I get off elevator and hear this male voice say 'HI Tricia'. He was getting on other elevator. I quickly turned my chair to put my back to him, said 'HI ED' and scooted quickly away. One of my friends said, you should have thrown those shoulders back, head up, and faced him with a great big smile and Your HI, give the old goat a midnight thrill. HEHEHEH. OH, would that have given the rumor mills here conversation for a month. I got my things from car, and made it back to my apartment without being seen again.
I have now ordered some light weight scarves/shawls that I could throw around to hide the no bra look. Just cannot wear a bra now, even the camisoles hold in heat, though 95% cotton, must be the 5% spandex that does it.
OK, I am out of here, it is nap time. Huge hugs to each of you, with extras, till later.
