If—
BY RUDYARD KIPLING
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

This, and Invictus, are my favorite poems.
I know it's not normal, MizT, but I've had the problem on and off for decades. I've had all sorts of tests and they've never found the problem. I've resigned myself to periods if bleeding combined with intense back and abdominal pain. They never last more than 2 weeks, so far. I would love to have the problem diagnosed and fixed, but it's demoralizing to go through gobs of tests in the hospital, including colonoscopies and other invasive tests, and still be told that they can find nothing wrong. I KNOW there's something wrong. IH gave me a chewing out last night about not going to see my doctor over this, during this bout, but I don't want to hear the same thing again. My doctor knows I have an abdomen that's painful to the touch. My doctor knows I have this problem. Why waste my time and money hearing the same thing again? And again.

Ahhhh, I understand, Heidi. Was not aware it was a chronic thing. I know it can be so discouraging to never find the cause, but do the docs at least have something to treat the symptoms and help you get over it sooner? I do hope you are better soon, and get through this bout with minimal hurt.
I could make a guess to part of the cause, it is the stress of living with your mate! That is enough to keep anyone's gut tied in knots!!Don't see how you do it.
I loved the poem, am familiar with it, always liked it. Thanks for posting it for us all to read and think about.
I have had a NO ITCH day, yeah. Problem now is the short of breath and the sting/burn in throat and bronchial tubes. feels like a new cold coming on, raw, irritated, swelled and I can really get out of breath. meds are keeping it under control, barely sometimes and Monday I go to dermatologist. Hope he has something that can help.
I was not sure at first about dermatologist helping with throat and such swelling, but that is still skin, just inside the body. AND the angioedema is partly outside skin, swelling of face, so I hope they do not teach only the face part to dermatologist hehehe.
Waiting for the change over from daytime meds that keep me awake, to night time that put me to sleep. I do have trouble sleeping with steroids, but better awake and feeling good than awake and scratching One more dose of benadryl in about an hour and then a little toddy should do the trick. It is only 11:30 PM here, not too much past normal bedtime.
Hugs to each of you, with extras.

Still too tired to do you all justice so I'll just share an anecdote for now.
Driving home yesterday Alie and I saw a couple on the side of the road. Both of them were seriously weird looking - fashion wise I mean. Alie started telling me about the girl being too grotty to get guys her own age so she goes for older guys who can't get girls their own age. You know those girls - too daggy, nerdy, geeky (can't remember the other adjectives), did you have those when you were at school. Yes, I was those girls. Oh, she says. Sometimes it's about maturity, boys your own age are too immature... I've never seen anyone backpedal so fast in my life!

Feel better soon, Heidi.
I am just back from the best birthday party ever. It was August birthdays, and St Thomas Episcopal church put on a great party. Party balloons for the centerpieces, real cloth tablecloths brought from their church dining facility. Home baked chicken tetrazini, and a marinated fresh veggie salad that had everything in it, the marinade similar to a 3 bean salad marinade, two kinds of cake and two kinds of ice cream. I have extras of the pasta dish, enough for dinner twice more, yeah! A resident who did not care for it gave me her serving. You should have seen the shopping bag size gift bags for the birthday celebrants, full of very useful things. They must be a very large and affluent church. I know they spent some dollars on this party for us and we do appreciate them so much. They have been coming once a year for over 10 years. For entertainment, they had a vocalist who sang show tunes, she had a wonderful voice. All in all, a great party. Someone even helped anyone who could not go to pick up their own meal. I had to ask for help today, I was shaking so badly from the steroids this morning, it was nice to have someone bring it too me. I might change my birthday to August hehehe.
NO itching today, slept from 3 am till 9:30 AM, it took that long for the keep-me-awake steroids to leave my system. Just think, I was supposed to take 2 more at bedtime. I would still be awake if I had hehehe. I take what I can and deal with it as I have too.
Breathing is better, I think I am going to live now.
Hugs to everyone, with extras. Till later.

I got the results back from the vet for Snowball. His blood tests are all normal, except for a small drop in white blood cell count which could be caused by stress. He does have a minor ear infection, but that wouldn't account for his lethargic behavior. It is possible he fell down off something and is just keeping a low profile. He is currently on three different medications - something for ear infection, an anti-inflammatory, and a pain medication. Poor little guy. So I've got my work cut out for me. We currently have him locked in the bathroom because one of the meds has to be mixed in with food. I sure miss the old goofball Snowball ... such a fun kitty.
MizT, the party sounds like it was fun. However, you have made me hungry!
Feel better, Heidi.

Quick drop in. I have work to do. I had a lazy day yesterday to try to get rid of this cold once and for all - it's tough being heard in a classroom when your voice is a croak. We decided to invite Dana over for lunch today since we haven't seen much of her this week, only now she is staying for dinner - hence the quick drop in and I will have a late night too.
Theresa, I'm not even sure Alie said grotty, she said something that meant grotty to me, that's a word from my era.

Daily anecdote: A boy at the back of the class, who has been rather loud all lesson, swore just as there was a break in the noise level so the whole class heard him.. He said eff me. I said no thanks. And then had a fit of giggles over how inappropriate that was. This was a senior class.

Greetings friends, I do not think I dropped by to post yesterday. Said all I had to say earlier?
Yesterday at last had 2 friends up for coffee and cake. Had tried Friday night, they got lost and did not find my apartment. Easy mistake, I failed to tell them I was in building 2, on all other floors 3-8 apartment 13 IS in the old building. Second floor has fewer apartments than any other floor, in both buildings, so is numbered differently. Thought about Saturday as a make up date, but birthday party served cake, did not need twice. Besides, I went down for a 4 hour nap after that party. So we caught up with each other yesterday and had a nice 2 hour visit, with peanut butter frosted cake and pecan coffee. They both ooooed and aaaahhhed over my flowers in the window. We were a bit crowded in, since I had to squeeze in the power chair in living room. But we made it, they had the comfy dining chairs, I sat in the secretary chair I use in K for cooking and rolling about.
Our OCD resident watered flowers for me Saturday, I was just too weak and shaky to get it done. Margret will do anything for anyone, and to many take advantage of her, then ignore her, walk away if she is in the room, but call her to come help if then need help. I talk to her, and really enjoy her company. she is very intelligent, you just have to remember she is differently abled than others.
we had a huge rain overnight Saturday night. No water so far on my floor, but we did see drops falling outside my windows. As long as it stays outside.
Breathing problems keep coming and going here. right now both rash and breathing better than it has been. Of course it is, I have dermatologist appointment in a few hours! Hope I can find another basket of peaches while down there. Eat what is in season, you know! Not sure I will be far enough south to find Chilton county peaches. Perhaps I should wait till thursday, will be going further toward Peach Country. thursday is appointment with my Primary care doc. Do we have a lot to talk about.
My rash got so much better so fast, with the delay in getting my prescrip0tions faxed to pharmacy, I did not need to use it. I read a bit about it, that was some powerful stuff she gave me, with all kinds of nasty warnings if you used too much, used it for too long, used over too large an area. AND she gave me a refill. I should mark calendar and get refilled just before it expires next year, if it is not needed before. Sounds like a great thing to have on hand.
Daughter is very skeptical of the cheap price I am getting on Pashmina scarves, thinks might be very low quality wool. As long s not scratchy, I will be happy. I should find out this afternoon, tracking said they will be delivered today! Did I say I found several tutorials on how to tie as a scarf or a shawl? Very interesting ideas, I shall try most. Not the one using a belt to hold the shawl in place, belts are for people slimmer than I am

Again, I did a JULIE hehehe. Here is the rest of the post.
Not sleeping well still, even though I took last cortisone med at 6 pm. I was up and down several times between 11 PM and 5 AM, sometimes up as long as an hour fore I could get back to sleep. Was not itching, hurting, mind was just going fast and furious. Did sleep from 5 am till 9:30 when alarm went off to start meds and start getting ready for doc appointment.
OK I can now have coffee, I am cutting the 'or no food till 1 hour after' down a bit this morning. Occasionally doing this, my meds still work. Just not days in a row.
OH, just saw a headline on local TV news online. The Dollar Tree, one of those everything is priced a dollar stores, the one I frequent, it burning, they say a big fire. It is in a strip mall, a grocery that is closing next door, and a Fred's discount down the hill next door, then a K mart. I hope the whole block does not go up.
I did read, such a few posts today, but No comments this morning. I will get back to them.
Hugs to all, with extras.

Slowly rejoining the living. I ran out of methadone on Saturday and crashed. I couldn't drive to the pharmacy, even. It took most of Saturday and all of Sunday with me being bedridden before IH finally offered to drive to the pharmacy (12 miles each way) to pick up the prescription that was waiting for me. He got it at 10 this morning, and I can walk a bit again at 1 pm.
I gave up on looking for the missing cell phone and replaced it. Nothing fancy, just a $13 tracfone again, but it'll allow me to stay in touch when I return to Florida. I still haven't heard if Sere has come in heat yet, so I don't know when I'm going. It should be soon. It's been exactly 3 weeks since I drove her down there, and mares are supposed to cycle every 21 days.

Hello All, I have been out of touch since Thursday afternoon, my time.....I commented and shortly afterwards I lost touch with the internet...poof...gone..unable to access anything.. finally had to call someone to fix my puter or forgetaboutit! Happily someone came to my rescue and at low cost for all that had to be done...I'm back! He had to clean the hard drive and reenter all of my stuff after getting rid of lots and lots of bad stuff and I then had to try and recall all of the passwords, so very hard to do since I hadn't kept records of passwords, etc. that let us do what we do...and finally...here I am.
Thanks Tricia and Broni for answering the questions that were floating around...Broni, hopefully things have quieted down a bit and work is once again bearable...so hard to work when we run into mishandled situations that have gone on for far to long and we have no other recourse except to handle it ourselves! You did good...now time for the other one to realize things must change...hope she got the message.
Tricia...I had an allergic reaction that lasted a whole summer with rashes and itches and had to carry an eppi pen for years.....so glad you seem to be responding to the meds and time. Sleep is a wonderful thing when we finally get to do it right isn't it? Stay on the recovery trail and keep on keeping on,
Heidi...sorry you have been having so much pain...glad IH finally realized you needed help and got your meds...wish it had been sooner, as I'm sure you do too..but glad that the light finally came on! Looking forward to you overcoming this obstacle soon and feeling human and ready, able and full of get up and go. Hope things are right with Sere as far as timing to. Stay safe.
Theresa...our weather has been beautiful recently...rain is now expected..hoping yours improves and you can at least have something go right for awhile. May you find the strength to hang in there and do what must be done...It's so hard to have to be 'the one', but what goes around does come around...May peace find you soon.
Suzy...your drop ins are wonderful...you go go...mess with those kids heads...I love it! You sure know how to time the right thing to say to gain kids respect!! Wonderful!
If I didn't mention you by name, its not because I didn't think of you...just wrap it up to my addled brain...but know I wish you love, peace and soul!

Daily anecdote: The boy who said eff me isn't even in my class!!! I only found out because today every one in my class was there and yet the class count was one high. It took a while because nobody will dob them in. He has been reported and told that he won't be coming anymore.

I'm feeling better today. I still have some pain in the lower back, but the rest of me isn't hurting, and I got some quality sleep last night.
I spoke to the RV dealership. They still haven't found the problem with the generator. All they know is that it's overheating and shutting down. Fortunately, I barely used it on the trip to Florida a few weeks ago, and used the plug-in at the RV camp instead. They'll know more tomorrow about when it'll be fixed. I'm SO glad that this won't cost me anything. This is why I will always buy from reputable dealerships instead of private individuals. Things may initially cost a bit more, but not in the long run.

Well, my friends, Snowball is starting to perk up a bit. It's so nice to have a bit of the old goofball back. He's such a silly guy and I've missed that.
Looking after animals for neighbours. So counting my own, this week I am looking after 15 cats and one fish. I don't have the extra cats at my place, thank goodness. I go to their homes twice a day to feed, scoop, pet and just check on them. I think animals are much more comfortable and less stressed if they can stay in their own environment while their owners are away.

Suzy, I had the same thing happen, but my student was skipping me. I had a student absent but I thought I had seen him earlier. We get back from lunch and one of my students said they saw Tom at lunch and they thought he went into a room over there, and pointed. I looked in the direction and remember that one of the rooms had a sub. I went into the room but did not see him. As I was walking back to the door I noticed some students shifting positions. I looked closer and Tom was hiding under a desk. I wrote a referral for skipping and let the sub know what happened.

Anybody want a laugh? IH is already acting like the RV was his idea. I just found out that he's making arrangements with some of his relatives to rent ''our' RV for their vacations!!!!! I think the idea was for him to keep the money since he's making the business arrangements. I may have to nip this in the bud.

unfortunately, I did not get a good nights sleep again Monday night, was 6 am before I slept more than fits and starts, I would just get to sleep and wake again. Once I got soundly to sleep at 6, I slept till phone, and then alarm woke me at 10:30. Nice to be retired and sleep when you can hehehe.
Also, I did sleep this afternoon. I came home from a bus trip, apartment bus, to Wal mart. I was very tired, put away my purchases, took my meds and climbed into bed. Good 2 hour nap, then a second shorter one, while waiting for Joy to come tonight. I am of course taking less of the steroids, with the dose pack, was down to 3 tabs today and took the option to take all 3 at one time early in the day and give it time to get out of system before bedtime tonight. . The rash is fading, no itch, the breathing has been better, no more perfume!
Joy came to help me look for my bank card. I remember using it to order those scarves and not since. Being so heavily medicated at times, no telling what I did with it. Canceled it tonight, no charges have been made on the old card, yeah, and will have another in 2-3 days. Fast service. I was just foggy to try to call and get it canceled myself. I hate taking medication.
The morning phone call was from the medical supply tech, he was setting appointment to repair the chair. The alarm was to get up in time to get dressed before he came. He phoned early, just after my alarm, saying he was coming up in elevator. I scrambled into yesterday's clothes. I did want him to come repair the joy stick control arm.
It is done, it is a temp fix, it now sticks out way too far in front of the chair. He is looking for parts, or another joy stick configuration to get it back closer to chair arm. It is supposed to swing aside so I can sit at table or desk, even in that position, still 4 inches out in front of the arm rest. Hope he can get back to me tomorrow. I have a day at home tomorrow, gee, been out too many times the last 2 weeks. I need a rest.
I found something I have been wanting since I moved into this apartment. I found a full length mirror, and it has brackets to put it over a door. No putting holes into walls that would need to be repaired later. It is more decorative than the usual black framed wal mart full length mirror, nice gold sculpted frame. Just a bit more, but I happened to have a bit of cash left at the end of the month. I also found some Black Eyed Susan, rudbeckia,

to replace the petunias that had an early demise. they were moved to all shade, over watered, then subjected to the force of a most powerful fan that was being used to dry the water from flash floor, all when I could not go to that area, cause of the water. This time of year it is hard to find plants at wal mart. No 6 packs of bedding plants, only the one and 2 gallon containers. They mostly look very sad. I got the best two, unsure of price, but I wan

Over again, but here is the rest. Not coordinated to read and answer posts, I did read and think of each of you. Foggy brain is getting better, till it is, enjoy or skip my ramblings I will never know!
I got the best two, unsure of price, but I wanted them. took to cashier in garden shop, who gave me the price. I said that they looked very sad, half dead, dry as a bone, turning brown at the bottom, could she mark them down, It is far late into the season. She said, how about 50% off? Yep, will take them hehehe. Never hurts to ask. Tomorrow they go into the pot!
On a great gardening segment of local TV, a gardener with one of the most beautiful natural native gardens was asking his secret of keeping everything so beautiful. He said someone had once told him the secret, your garden will be lovely as long as you can plant faster than plants die. hehehe

Hi, Everyone! I hope all is well!
Made an appointment for eye check-up today - just a year late for my annual check. Oops! It pays to be retired and have day-time available for appointment. I was able to schedule it for 2 weeks from today.
Called for annual vet check for Jordy, the cat (about 18 years old). Guess what? That was also more than a year late. Double loops! We're a bit concerned about her. She has lost weight in the past 6 - 12 months, seems to be sleeping more, and more soundly. I was told she will need blood work, and they would like a urine sample. What? From a cat? Sure, I'll just ask her to pee in a cup.
Her appointment is in 2 days. I need to call D#2 (Jordy's original 'owner' when she was in high school). and give her a heads-up that there may be concerns.
Thinking of June, Ken, Laura and Belinda!
Your upcoming trip sounds wonderful! Enjoy!
Have fun working part-time at Target, Tami! Good luck finding the clothes you need at a great price. (Our SIL starts back to school Aug. 12, too.)
Tricia, I hope the itchies and tummy woes are soon a part of the past. Hopefully the roof repairs will help alleviate the water problems you have been dealing with!
Viv, I hope your tummy troubles have improved.
Heidi, I hope the diarrhea and back and leg issues are no longer troublesome! I'm glad the 'stray' bull has been sent on his way! Good luck with your tooth, the RV, and the new collie adoption!
Broni, good for you for dealing with the unruly employee. I hope you're feeling better and all of the books for your friend are soon completed.
Suzy, remember to take care of you! It's nice to be able to make a choice about how much work you will accept. I hope Dana's troublesome neighbor has been straightened out or removed! How is Alie doing while recovering from her eye surgery? Will that prevent her from doing some of the work at her placement? Will you be able to post pictures of the item/s she is making?
Theresa, I hope Maggie and the girls enjoy their holiday. Hopefully the issues with your MIL and FIL will improve. I hope Snowball is better!
Nola, it's good to see you! I loved your fun post (on page 16, I think). I hope everything is going well with the repairs since the flooding. I know there was more I wanted to say, bit it has somehow eluded me now.
Mamacita, thanks for mentioning 'The Book Thief' again. Hopefully I can find some time to read it soon. How nice that you have had a few quiet days to yourself!
It's time to get to bed! Sending lots of

Daily anecdote: Why are you here? (In detention). Because I ate in class. Yes, but take it further. I didn't put my phone away. Yes, but still further. I walked around the room. Yes, but you're still missing the worst thing you did. (Blank faces). When I asked you to put the food away what did you do? When I asked you to put the phone away what did you do? You ignored me and kept doing what you were doing. You were disrespectful and felt the rules didn't apply to you. (Surprised looks)
Honestly, if they had stopped doing the wrong thing when asked they would not have been in detention.

I should be preparing for tomorrow, but I'm tired of thinking stuff and not getting time to say it, so I'm here first this time.
Heidi, I like that he wants to charge relatives to use the RV! I call that rhinoceros hide.
Theresa, that's a handful! Lucky you love animals... Fantastic news about Snowball, it was worrying for a while there.
MizT, I hope by the time you see this you've had a nice long, normal-hour sleep. It really takes a toll on our bodies to sleep like you have been lately. I bet you are just a little bit grumpy too. It's good news that the itchies and breathing are improving though. The warnings on most meds are really scary if you read them too closely. I use a cortizone ointment on my back a few times a year. It's truly nasty stuff with a zillion warnings and potentially horrible side effects - if you use it more than a few times.
I would have to take the planting story to heart. I kill plants!
Julie, don't feel bad. I go every other year for my annual eye check too. I hope it's nothing serious with Jordy. Everything crossed. She is getting up there though. I'm laughing at you getting her to pee in a cup. I'd love to know how you manage that!
Broni, have things improved with miss temper tantrum? I hope so. It's not nice to work in that environment.
Tami, I'm almost envious of your new part time job. Though to be honest I'm not really up to working anything on top of the teaching right now. Give me time though. You never know. I reported this student to his teacher and the head teacher...
Nola, how are things going? Busy I guess since you aren't in here, but also productive I hope.
Mamacita, great news about your computer. I know i feel like I've lost an arm when mine plays up.
Lizzy, I'd love to hear more about the things you are up to. I know they are not as boring as you make out and I think everyone in here would love to hear about them.

June, I had to go back a bit to see what you are up to. Pasta salad for 75??!! Or just a whole bunch to go with other salads? Either way, that's a lot of work. I hope it went down well. I hope you are well too.
Hugs to everyone.
And now I've been called to dinner.

Morning all. Coffee is ready, help yourself.
Tricia, like your story about the plants. It never does hurt to ask. I am like Suzy and kill most plants I like. If I don't like it, it will thrive. The only thing I have been having success with recently is aloe vera. I didn't realize how many babies one big plant will create and I have two big aloe plants. Last year I gave over 20 babies to the health science teacher at my school. One of her classes planted them and talked about natural remedies. They grew the plants at school for a bit and then took them home.
Suzy, I have the same problem. If the kids would just stop the behavior when asked, the would stay out of trouble. When I have to ask for the 3rd or 4th or 5th time, it is a problem.
Heidi, I had a feeling IH would do something like that with the RV. Are you willing to 'rent' it out? If so, you keep the money.
Julie, keeping my fingers crossed for Jordy. I am also late for my annual eye exam, as well as several other yearly exams. The more time I have off, the less I seem to get done.
Hello to anyone else I may have missed. I am awake, but only on my first cup of coffee.

Proud Mommy Moment:
Mitchell is taking a college class and he is only a Junior (year 11) in high school. His school offers a dual enrollment program with two local colleges. One of them offers the classes on campus, the other you need to go to the college campus. Do to transportation issues, he is taking a class that is offered on campus. It is a computer science class, fully paid for by the county, including text books. It is the first time this college has worked on a dual enrollment program. Only two classes are being offered but they are working on more. Mitchell will be getting a college ID and can use the services on the college campus. I feel bad for Mitchell. He has a really heavy work load. AP Chemisty, AP English, AP Calculus, Honors History, Honors Marine Science, College Computers and Physical Education. For the AP classes, if he passes the test at the end of the year, it counts as college credit, for most colleges.
