Keith, Mama
well done on your weight loss it is the feeling healthier that is the great bonus. as I said yesterday, the weightloss will take care of itself once you change your eating and exercise practices.
everyone will do it their own way and achieve in their own way.

OK, I know none of you want to see me on here, given my weight. But Linda came up with a great idea. How about having the cruise be an incentive?? It's not until January 2008. You do need to get a $200 deposit in by end of Feb. but can get trip cancellation insurance for $79. and final payment isn't due until Oct 31..plenty of time to see results!!! Whaddya think??

Good afternoon everyone, still don't have a new pedometer but I know I am getting more steps today because as I am filing I am going from room to room as needed, instead of doing all in the 'active patient' file and then go into the other room and sit down at the 'inactive patient' file cabinet. I have decided I could get a few extra steps in if I went back and forth and stood instead of sitting. Don't know if it will make any difference, but makes me feel like I am trying to do something! Now all I have to remember is to shut the file drawers, hurts the shins!!!!

LK, of course it all helps.
I kept on dropping my pedometer, and last week lost it on the golf course (found by one of the ladies following me), so I have attached a long length of bright red ribbon to it. The free end winds round the belt then I tuck it into my pants so if it does slip off the belt it can't go far.
Most of my stepping done round the shops today (8212) Bought new walking shoes, waterproof golfing boots, pants, top and jacket. I even bought a skirt - I haven't worn one of those in a long time. They are all a little snug, so roll off you pounds
I raise my water to you and your filing cabinets

Good food day
Poached egg on spinach, I'd forgotton how good it is.
Golf tomorrow weather permitting. I hand over my captaincy to my successor tomorrow so more free time to walk.
Hope everyone has had a good day.

Last two days have been very good. yesterday I only walked for 3/4's of a mile, but had an excellent day at the gym. Even going to a steakhouse for dinner, I did well food wise. I made sure that I saved room for extra calories, ate 1/3 of a 12 oz steak, fresh steamed asparagus, 2 thin slices of the wheat loaf, and my salad, with light dressing. dessert was an oz of cheese and 4 crackers, and a glass of wine. water the rest of the time. Today I repeated the meal minus the salad, bread, wine or dessert. walked 2 miles total and had a good gym day. 1/3 of the steak remains, Sully will eat it, or I'll have it for brunch. I also had a hard boiled egg, and a blueberry bagel, and of course water. I find that I really enjoy what I'm eating or drinking, but fill up sooner(due to the water) and I stop eating at 8 p.m. I am not hungry at breakfast time, but eat because its best,so light meals are good. walking after I eat also helps. I have dried fruit that I sometimes eat for snacks.

Played golf today so 12263 steps.Foodwise not doing too badly. Gave away one of the boxes of chocolates I had cached away for treat later on. My friend had gone to the Alps intending to ski. First morning bent to put on his socks and back went, pain, no skiing, no nothing. Thought the chocs would do him more good than settling on my hips.

Hi Mo and Mama
sounds like you are both doing really well. keep up th egreat work and I am sure the weight will continue to disappear.
have been busy here but have managed to keep up a good eating program and slightly reduced walking as I donated blood 2 days ago and felt a bit dizzy. but have been working very hard here at motel. we have had rooms painted and therefore have to pull them down and put them all back together again on top of our normal work.

GannieMo, I know it doesn't give you any comfort to know when I started to hit the dieting bug I simply got rid of all the little temptations around the house. Hint.

I should have added that I then filled the fruit bowl, bought some rice cakes and now I snack regularly, but only on relatively healthy (low fat, low salt) food. You will find that your taste buds change over time. Good luck.

Hi all. Very bad diet week for me. I ate like crazy and it's showing on the scale. My son went in today and had his dental surgery (everything went very well and we're home recouperating now). Very scary to have such a little guy be put under, but he did well. Needless to say, I have been a nervous wreck for the last week anticipating and imagining every bad thing that could possibly happen. On top of that, I have only gotten 2 hours of interrupted sleep in the last 3 days. So, I ate and ate and ate. Not good. I had overcome that hurdle in my dieting in the last 3 years of losing weight and it came right back with the stress factor. Luckily, I had to walk about 2 miles 4 times today in the hospital and all their buildings. The scale, of course, does not show that. :( Keep up the good work that you are all doing and remember that even those of us who have lost a lot of weight still have bad times. The key is to get right back on track. That's what I intend to do, starting tomorrow morning!

Mamacita - not eating after 8pm was one of my goals in weight loss. It has helped a bunch. I don't eat anything after supper with the exception of the occational popcorn snack with my kids on movie night.

I am sure you will jump right back on track now that your little boy is on the road to recovery.
It is easy to fall off the wagon, the trick is to jump right back on again and dont beat yourself up too much about it. I agree that not eating late at night is a good policy.

Thanks Rosemary! He's very sick this morning. It's so hard to handle a 3 year old who doesn't understand what's happening to himself. Complaining of headaches and earaches and he's running a small fever. I've been told that's normal. Today, I am going to try not to eat my worries and drink water instead. As the saying goes, 'this too shall pass'.

Today I have sinned.
Yesterday a Belgian lady, fellow golfer, gave me a huge chunk of Marzipan (pâte d'amandes)hand made in Belgium and considered by her to be the best. I had to taste it. It was melt in the mouth delicious. If this was available here it could even replace chocolate in my life. I have tasted many makes but this one made by a small exclusive manufacturer is, I agree with her, the best. I still have half left. Must ask Steve to hide it from me. It is safe with him, he doesn't normally like it!, but this may change his mind, oh dear, I must not eat it all.(at least not all at once

Like GannieMo, I too have indulged myself today. The chocolate discussion on the site the other day tempted me enough so that I purchased a 3oz bar of Scharffen Berger chocolate while in a speciality store. (It was happenstance that I saw the chocolate,I didn't go looking for it). I ate 1/3 of the bar, which was only 160 calories, since the entire bar is 480 calories. I made allowances for it in the rest of my food intake, so I'm okay. I lost another inch off my waist which was far more satisfying than the chocolate. I also walked a mile this morning. Not sure what the rest of the day will bring exercise-wise, but no gym today. I'll just bounce around home for awhile, and when I walk the dog, how far I go will depend on the weather. Its cold and windy, not my cup of tea! Have a busy weekend coming up and Monday is my next weigh in. I'll check back then with the latest results. Hope all have a great weekend. Cheers all!

LK don't let this small pound get to you. It could be just that you are carrying more fluid today and it will be gone plus some next week. I only weigh once a week otherwise the daily fluctuations depress me.
I've had my sins for this week - the marzipan and I didn't make the 10,000 steps today (500 short) so this weekend I will have to get moving and make up for it.

Linda its just one pound, you watch next week it will have come off. Think how long we took to put it on and so we have to take it off slowly. Chin up my friend x
Mamacita 2, the chocolate discussion nearly broke me but I withheld, but I think it is fine to have a little of what you fancy!
I lost 2lb but it will probably go back to 1lb next week as I haven't walked much(the weather is not enticing me to do so!!) But I am positive!!

Good Morning
Mo, Mama
I know the feeling with the hocoloate discuccions. It made it pretty tough. But so far I have resisted. Both of you had a small amount and left some, I think that is a great effort.I have the feeling that a few weeks ago you may have ate the lot at once. So what a great step forward.
Linda
It is only a pound and may easily have been fluid as discussed. A womans body particularly varies dramatically within a month also so next week I am sure will turn around. Don't be discouraged this is a war we are in not just a single battle and we will with all our strength help each other through.
André
WOOOOO HOOOO 2 pounds is fantastic.
you might surprise yourself next week too as sometimes once the metabolism is cooking you can lose weight just by watching your food intake.
cheers girls, you are all doing great.

LK. Don't worry about a thing, nor can you give up. You may not see it on the scale, but you are different on the inside. It will take time before the two match. Do you weigh at the same time every time? Do you weigh in the nude? Jeans will add at least 3 lbs and some sneakers are also weighty. Change will come. Persistence will win the fight in the long run. Hang in there,we're with you!To the rest of you, job well done.

Just completed a 5800 step walk before lunch today in the beautiful cool air. finally a nice cool change has breezed through here and has made it all much more comfortable.
I must get the battery for my pedometer but I find counting the steps pushes me on to reach the next big number and so I seem to be walking further.
Mo
pleased you are back on the wagon and that the marzipan is no longer a temptation. I have been taking a tablet for sugar balance and it seems to have helped with the cravings for sweet foods.
Weigh in time tomorrow so I hope all the hard work and sweating of the last week pays off.
cheers

For those of you who love chocolate, don't despair, the urge will pass eventually if you persist.
I adore chocolate in all its forms but we no longer keep it in the house, so that when you get the urge for a nibble you have to find something else to snack on - piece of fruit, rice cakes with Lite Philly or something else. Now, I can resist chocolate because my tastes have changed. For example, for christmas I was given a block of dark chocolate, my favourite, but it still sits on the bookcase by my bed uneaten - I no longer crave for it.
So whatever you do, don't give up, there is light on the horizon.

Ian - I too crave chocolate, but found that I would drive to the store for it if I wanted it. I decided to keep Hershey's Kisses at home instead of bars. (Not a huge fan of Hershey's to begin with and that helps to curb the craving) Now I just have 2 or 3 kisses when I feel the need for a chocolate fix.

GMo, LK, Rosemary, Mama, Andre, Keith, anyone else I missed:
Keep up the Good Work!! Your stories of miles, steps, better sized portions, water intake, golf, (filing Linda?) and avoiding the cravings are really helping me keep going!

With my not-so-great week this week, I have ended it with a bang. I managed to lose 1 of the 2 sneaky pounds that creeped up on me. So I am now working on the other one and 3 of it's friends. Speed walked though grocery shopping today and ignored all the little old ladies handing out free samples, much to my kids chagrin. Then hauled it all out by myself and didn't do the drive-up where they load the many bags in my car. I figured every little bit helps.
Good Luck to those who are weighing in soon!

Weigh in report for week 3, I lost 2 pounds for a total of 8 since we started. More info on my page.

I haven't stopped by here in a while, and was so inspired by the comments of the last few days. The positive energy here is just wonderful, and it is fantastic how when one or two of us slips a little bit, the rest just lift them right back up again with good thoughts. Together, we can do it. Thanks again to all, and welcome, ap.

Hi All, Haven't been on this page over the week-in. A bit busy, but I'm here on my Jan,22,07 to report that my weigh in results show a 2lb lost for this week, in spite of slow exercise, and walk week and eating that chocolate. Total loss thus far 51/2 lbs AND, an additional inch loss from the waist, for a total loss of 3 inches. It seems as if my exercises had been helping me more than I realized. Congratulations to all, and ap, its good to see you here too.

I forgot to tell everyone that I still have a half bar of the chocolate. I thought I'd keep it and use it as a treat over the next TWO weeks. That will be a real record. Three weeks to eat a three oz bar of chocolate, if I can do it! My resolve not to eat after 8 p.m has gone a long way in helping me not to indulge in the forbidden stuff(junk like chips, pretzels and candy) fairly well. Once this chocolate is gone, I won't buy more. Things are looking to good to spoil my effort. Ian, I'm eating more fruit, but can't get into the rice cakes.
