Thats OK Brenda. Reading the comments about dementia makes me realise how lucky we are. Both my parents and Ken's father were all OK and his mother is 94 today and she has no problems either.

Brenda,I think benefits to seniors often depends on where they live...In Pennsylvania,once you are either disabled or aged, you get free transportation on local mass transport,and discounted train/cab service. You are also entitiled to certain pharmacy discounts. Then,the AARP, an association that lobbies for seniors in EVERYTHING, offers extra discounts that are statewide, but membership has a minimal cost. All in all, health care is costly, varies greatly, and for some unattainable, however, some free care is given to those w/o insurance...but those who payfor private insurance..cover the cost from their payments.Whether they are covered from work insurance or privat... Hubby and I have the same insurance that our lawmakers have, in addition, I have medicare....we pay out of pocket a co-pay for our medicine, from a low of 10.00 for the least expensive,to a high of 35.00 for the most costly. Reg doctors visits cost 15.00 and specialist are 35.00 per visit.....however,surgery, x-rays, other lab test of all types and any hospitalization is w/o cost to us....paid for from our insurance, that we pay for monthly..it runs almost 400.00 momnthly...Its a lot,but we are fortunate to be able to get what we need , when we need , anywhere in any state!
We need to bring cost down so that all can afford proper care! Much work lays ahead for the next administration surrounding health care!

MizT, that was a very touching story about yout daughter T. I'm sure it was of much benefit to the oldies she 'picked'. I bet she knew just who needed her the most each time.

Back again.... I just read a news story about a shopping centre in Belgium which closed for health and safety reasons when the temp inside reached almost 30 degrees... I agree it would be uncomfortable, but unsafe?

MAMACITA and RUBY, MEDICARE coverage starts on the first day of your birthday month, at least my plan does. My birthday is not for a couple of weeks. But I will be 65 this month!!

AND I do believe I have my birthday marked in my details so should be on the birthday list when it rolls around.

LOL..MizT...I've had Medicare so long that I forgot that it started at the beginning of the month that you become 65. I started with Medicare at age 55 because of disabily....I did remember that you area June Gemini though. I too had my birthday marked in details and it didn't show up so....why not. As a Gemini, you know you have a whole month to celebrate ...if you want to...it adds fun, not more years...so go for it ....CELEBRATE OFTEN and LONG

Another wet day here and all the washing from our week away. All the undies went into the drier.
Glad you had the party last Saturday Gail. The weather has not been as good the last couple of days down your way. Although wet it is much warmer here.

But then, what is normal!
At least the kitchen resembles it's usual disarray, not a party one. lol

Still no rain June, just pea-souper fogs every morning lasting till lunchtime.

I had an Email from some Japanese friends about to go to UK for 10 days. It always amazes me how much they travel and how little they actually get to see. They had asked for some advice but as they are doing a package tour they will just follow and take lots of photos!!

Rolanda, finally got to look at the finished photos of your en suite and it looks wonderful. (had 92 Emails to get through when we got back!!)

Suzy, you had me worried there. Richard and I are off to Belgium in 10 days time for a short break. I thought the temps were going to be too hot.
I have looked at the story you mentioned and it was just the viewing area in the dome which was closed not the centre. The Dome itself was too hot and humid. What you have to remember is that we do not have that sort weather here and it would have been too much for a lot of people. The Dome is a glass dome and the safety shading didn't do what it was supposed to. Health and Safety over here are really quick to stop anything which might just be dangerous in their opinion.

June, London gets lots of Japanese tourists this time of year. I don't know why they just go to London as we have many beautiful areas in the country, as I'm sure that you have found out. I hate London, yes it has lots of historical buildings but it is so crowded. The shopping is nothing special, many of the stores are located in most of the towns/cities around the country. Even the 'prestigious' Harrods/Selfridges sell everyday iems which you can get anywhere.

Brenda, hope you have a wonderful time in Belgium. Are you driving over? or do you fly or go by train? Everywhere is so close and easy for you to get to. Hard for us to comprehend when we have to fly for about 8 hours minimum to leave the country.

June, we are going on the Eurostar train. Leaving London we will be in Brussels within 2 hours. In November the 'new' St Pancras station was opened for the Eurostar train and Richard fancied a trip on the train, so he has found a deal for a three night break in the centre of Brussels.

Brenda, this couple are doing Glasgow, Edinborough, Windermere, Grasmere, Stat/Avon, Cotswolds, Bath, Stonehenge, and London. (9 days total). I love London for the Historical places, Museums and Galleries. Not interested in the shopping.
We love the UK countryside and Ken loves all the steam trains. We will be back again in the next couple of years.
We did go to Brussels for one day 20 years ago when we did our first big trip and did a Rafalgar 19 day cost saver tour of Europe. ( a bit like my Japanese friends!)

Living where we do we can drive for 2 hours and catch the Eurotunnel train and be in France, with the car, in just under 40 minutes. Many people used to do this when they wanted to stock up on booze/wine as it was a lot cheaper in France. Now lots of deals in supermarkets and the cost of petrol make it more expensive to go over to France just for the drink.

June that is a lot of traveling in 9 days
but they are seeing some lovely places. I envy them going to Windermere and Grassmere, the scenery round that area warrants at least a week just to see the most popular areas. I haven't been up that way for a few years now and fancy going again.

I know when you have a limited time and have to travel so far you want to see as much as possible especially when you may never have the chance to do the trip again. I haven't traveled abroad very much so have seen lots of wonderful places in England and still have many areas which I haven't visited too.
I would suggest York as a place to visit, your husband would love that as they have a huge Railway museum. Maybe you have already visited there, but it is a lovely city

We did a 3 month trip back in '88 which included about 6 weeks driving around UK. That is the last time we have been to Scotland but have been back to Wales, Stratford, Bath, around East Anglia, Cornwall and other palces several times. Would also like to get up around Yorkshire again. We have been in the Lakes district a couple of times.

We were both typing at the same time. Went to York in '88 and have not been back. So much to see in the world and so little time! I would like to go to South America and probably Egypt.
we are going to Malaysia in August for two weeks. (it will be HOT)
