Hehehe MizT. No thankyou to the rain. I think the 17 inches we had recently is enough.
I do wish it would go to Victoria but it will not.
Hi Nola. 28c here at the moment with 90% humidity.

Missed Rolanda.... I am so glad to see what we call 'renters beige' gone from my lounge room! It's such a nothing colour and we lived with it as renters for many years. That and the beige carpets....

renters beige... that must be what we call magnolia
When we decided to decorate the flat we rent out I said we wouldn't use that colour so we gave the tenant a choice. Guess what colour he chose..yep magnolia.

Yes, MizT... it dropped like a rock. From in the 50's to the mid 20's in a couple of hours.

Second try, lets see if my internet can hang on for long enough to post a comment...
Brenda, I googled magnolia and it was more of a pinky colour. I tried to find an example of renters beige and couldn't find one. Where do landlords get it from??? I've had it here and in the US so it is out there somewhere. There must be a huge warehouse of it exclusively for landlords. Dark cream, dirty yellow, very light brown... a combination of all three.

Does anyone else think that "I am Australian" is our de-facto national anthem, and a darn sight better than the one they actually lumbered us with? Or is that just crazy talk? To me it has an emotional impact that Advance Australia Fair has never had - especially if you've ever heard any of the less "politically correct" verses of AAF! Any thoughts, anyone?

Judy, the chorus is wonderful but I never remember most of the rest of the words...
came from the dream-time, from the dusty red soil plains
I am the ancient heart, the keeper of the flame.
I stood upon the rocky shore, I watched the tall ships come.
For forty thousand years I've been the first Australian.
We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We share a dream and sing with one voice:
I am, you are, we are Australian
I came upon the prison ship, bowed down by iron chains.
I cleared the land, endured the lash and waited for the rains.
I'm a settler, I'm a farmer's wife on a dry and barren run
A convict then a free man, I became Australian.
We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We share a dream and sing with one voice:
I am, you are, we are Australian
I'm the daughter of a digger who sought the mother lode
The girl became a woman on the long and dusty road
I'm a child of the depression, I saw the good times come
I'm a bushy, I'm a battler, I am Australian
We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We share a dream and sing with one voice:
I am, you are, we are Australian
I'm a teller of stories, I'm a singer of songs
I am Albert Namatjira, I paint the ghostly gums
I am Clancy on his horse, I'm Ned Kelly on the run
I'm the one who waltzed Matilda, I am Australian
We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We share a dream and sing with one voice:
I am, you are, we are Australian
I'm the hot wind from the desert, I'm the black soil of the plains
I'm the mountains and the valleys, I'm the drought and flooding rains
I am the rock, I am the sky, the rivers when they run
The spirit of this great land, I am Australian
We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We share a dream and sing with one voice:
I am, you are, we are Australian
I am, you are, we are Australian.

Hi all ...I'm still reading...there may be no hope that I'll ever catch up...... but that's okay.
Judy, Many Americans feel the same way about "GOD BLESS America" rather than the anthem , while
beautiful, the anthem is very difficult to sing and is often messed up by those trying to sing it.
May life become better for all Australia and may the memorial services today help to bring about a return to some sort of normalcy...what ever that may be.
In Philadelphia, it also was a day of mourning,,,,,Our seventh police Officer, killed in the line of duty in less than 18 months was laid to rest today. He was only 25 years old, newly married an they were about to have their first baby in a couple of months. A baby that will never get to know its father.......Our police are being killed off as if they were flies...so sad.. why are they being targeted simply because they are doing their jobs? Society has declared them as expendable...What are we thinking today?..
.Life seems to have lost its value to those who have guns and want what others have.
No, I don't think guns are evil, but they are too available to those who have evil in their hearts....All guns kill, but guns need to be better controlled...not taken away necessarily...
There are valid reasons to own and enjoy guys,....but some guns are just too powerful to be open and available to one and all!!!!
RIP Officer John Pawlowski....and all of the other Police Officers who have died in the line of duty in the past 18 months,,,,
May Peace find your loved ones as needed,

Good Night Friends, time to turn in here. We never got the rain, although it is falling from the clouds, it is not making it to the ground. Our atmosphere is just too dry. It is evaporating.
Tomorrow, windy and much colder, brrrr, I am glad I do not have to be out and about tomorrow.
Good Night all!

Suzy, thanks for the youtube clip. I've just remembered another reason why I'm so fond of that song - I'm not sure now, so many years later, but I think my son was one of the little boys singing the back-up on the original performance. I'll have to ask him if he remembers.
Mamacita, some songs just get to you, while others have no emotional impact.
So sad to hear about a young life lost in the line of duty - may he rest in peace.

Judy, were you watching Spick 'n Specks a couple of weeks ago when Bruce Woodley explained how he composed 'I am Australian" ?
Our National Anthem was selected back in 1974, way before that song was in existence.
When Gough Whitlam decided to have our own National anthem the choice was 'Advance Australia Fair', 'Waltzing Matilda' and 'God Bless Australia'(known mainly in South Australia)
It was chosen by interviewing a random selection of people throughout Australia. You know the result.(before that we sang "God save the King/Queen.")
At the time there was a Marlborough (cigarette) add on TV that everyone felt could be adapted to make a great anthem but that idea was rejected by the Government.
Judy I am not saying I disagree with you, just explaining how things came about.

June, I remember when we changed to Advance Australia Fair. Waltzing Matilda is great, but is really about a thief so possibly not appropriate. I don't remember God Bless Australia.
Judy, how wonderful that your son (may have) sung back-up! I hope you ask him... I'll have to listen again now.

We used to sing a different song at assemblies. We sang the anthem of the time, God Save the Queen, and we also sang the Song of Australia. I always thought that should have been our anthem.
BTW I am from South Australia and I have never heard of God Bless Australia!

THE SONG OF AUSTRALIA
There is a land where summer skies
Are gleaming with a thousand dyes,
Blending in witching harmonies, in harmonies;
And grassy knoll, and forest height,
Are flushing in the rosy light,
And all above in azure bright -
Australia, Australia, Australia!

Sung to the tune of Waltzing Matilda
Here in this God given land of ours, Australia
This proud possession, our own piece of earth
That was built by our fathers, who pioneered our heritage,
Here is Australia, the land of our birth.
REFRAIN
God bless Australia, Our land Australia,
Home of the Anzac, the strong and the free
It's our homeland, our own land,
To cherish for eternity,
God bless Australia, The land of the free.
Here in Australia, we treasure love and liberty,
Our way of life, all for one, one for all
We're a peace loving race, but should danger ever threaten us,
Let the world know we will answer the call

at Primary School Asemblies we sung..
God Save the Queen
and
I love a Sunburnt Country
I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror
The wide brown land for me!

Gail it was probably Song of Australia not what I said. All I remember it was one that was sung in schools in SA and not many of the other states knew it. After all it was nearly 35 years ago and I do suffer from CRAFT sometimes.
