Gday Martha and . Don't be shy, we don't bite...we might nibble a little bit though!
Have you been around for long, had a look around the place? If you have any questions, there are plenty of places to ask and heaps of knowing people who are only happy to be of assistance.
I've got my goodies basket with me, now what do I have in here for a page-warming pressie? How about a bottle of bubbly, a plate of nibblies and a bunch of native from my page. Drop in any time, I'd love to see you there.

♪♫♪ and ♪♫♪ Martha. just relaxing with a cup of tea after a day of work. I'm near Chicago and darkness comes quickly now. It's the fall season in full swing now - still some leaves on the trees but most are now on the ground. I enjoy this time of year - the colors and the foods - love those caramel apples and apple cider - the pumpkin and cranberry quick breads - and if at a football game - hot choc with donuts are a welcome treat. I hope you are enjoying your day. The holiday craft faire are now in full swing and I'm going to go to one tomorrow to pick up some earrings from one of the vendors - take care, Mary

Congrats on your own page. What a beautiful part of the world you come from - its a long time since I last went through Tyalgum but at the time I was very taken with it. Love that part of the world. Always fancied having 'Tyalgum' as part of my address - has a good ring to it. Enjoy your visitors. Ciao.

well, nice to hear from so many individuals from so many places, and yes, Tyalgum is a beautiful place - though I actually live on a farm 10km from the village - close to the mountains and 2 minutes walk from a national park.

I have been playing sudoku on this site for at least 2 years and never bothered to join, but have often read your chats and have been struck many times by the relentless positiveness, hehe

Martha, after reading your post on easy today, I had to pop in to say how much I commiserate with you about the doof doof. Our neighbours recently had a party for their daughter's 18th. We were invited but I think they just did that to assuage their guilt. Father told us the music would be finished at 11.30, to which we just scoffed! It was finally turned of at 6.30 AM!!!

I affirm I was once a Biology teacher - for about 20 years. Since early retirement, I have been in unpaid self-employment 'doing my own thing.
I think maybe you are also a teacher of Biology?
So; as your welcoming present for your new room here, I leave you an Automatic Biology Teaching Machine (ABTM). It even includes a remedial, high-voltage, electric-shock facility for maintaining discipline.

Whenever my Mum has visited us, I have always put her in front of the pooter. She has absolutely no idea, but she's not stupid either! The first time was many years ago and I introduced her to Mahjongg then went out shopping with my sisters. We got back over an hour later and there was Mum, still very happily playing! She got the hang of it pretty quickly. Last time, I showed her how to surf the net. Started of showing her a site about Woomera (where I was born), then asked her what she would like to look at. She was in the WAAFs during WW2 so I showed her how to look things up. She had a ball!
I can't wait to 'meet' your mum on the site, I'm sure she would be welcomed with open arms.

No, we don't get flooding here. We're just south-east of Brissie, north of the Gold Coast, only a few kms from Moreton Bay. Any local flooding is tidal. Glad all is well there.

Hi Martha; thanks for the confirmation about the prevailing conditions in Oz. That's a hell of a climate gradient you have just now - from fierce bush fires across to violent storms

Martha,

Congratulations to your son. Is he planning on studying close to home or will he be leaving the nest?
I had to look up where Tyalgum was - not too far from Tugun where I just spent the last two weeks. There was no sun, sand and surf for me this holiday. Oh well, there is always Christmas 2008 to look forward to.

Martha, I live at Ferny Hills (NW suburb of Brisbane) - Fernlands is our housing estate name.

At least Griffith Uni isn't so far away - he can come home on weekends to let you do his washing.

Tugun wasn't great - just wet, wet, wet. We go to railway units there every year - just down the street from the surf club. It's a great location but I'm not complaining about the weather - at least we have a bit more water in the Brisbane dams. It was fairly relaxing - book reading and movie watching - until the boys had some mates to stay. Me and 6 teenage boys in a 2 bedroom unit was not a good mix. Thank goodness they only stayed one night.
I only have 2 boys - the oldest 20yr old is at Kelvin Grove campus studying Early Childhood Education (finished his first year but 3rd course in 3 yrs). The youngest 18Yr old is in his first year as an apprentice carpenter.

Hi Martha
Yay! How frustrating that he forgot! Such a huge deal and he's having too much fun.... What will he do with forensics and criminology? Is that a 3 year degree? Will he live at home?

I live on the south coast of NSW...

MARTHA, somehow I did not see you sign in as a new member, so this is my first visit to your page. Ya should have known I was comming by how long it took me to get here (funny saying my grandmother often said hehe)

and will be looking for you more around the site. I also want to look up just where you live if I can find my map, it certainly has an interesting name. Is the name a native language name? I know we have many such in our state nearby, Tuscalosa and Sylagauga, Andulusia, Tallapoosa, Native American (Indian) names.

Thanks for the idea Martha! I have some of that too (in the human medicine cabinet). I bet he'll lick it off (heck he can lick off bitterant) but it might help the healing process.

The vet tried a bandage when it first appeared. Tightly wound round the whole paw, gaffed at the top, then a red sticky bandage all over it. Wretched (but clever) dog waited till I got into the bath (i.e. stopped watching him for a few seconds) grabbed the very end with his teeth and whipped it off whole. It last a total of 20 minutes (and cost $28). So no more bandages!
