Martha, thank you so much for your kind words on my page when Mum passed. I have felt so supported by all my friends here.
I can't tell you how comforting it has been to me to have the convos we have had. It has helped me so much to be able to share this with you.
Cheers for being such a good ear.

Wow, Martha! What an amazing place to live. What do you do there - are you on the land? Is it far to the coast and is it nice living next to all those National Parks? Hope it isn't too dry there - the bushfire season seems really scary this year.

Did you find us Martha? We are on the NSW side of the Murray between Albury and Echuca. Very much the opposite to your climate - hot and dry in summer. Last year blew me away with 45 degree days - when the horrendous Victorian fires happened, of course. We love it, but also escape to the coast for a few weeks every year - at Bateman's Bay. What do you do with your 23 acres? Does sound like a little bit of heaven.

You know how the saying goes - those that can do, and those that can't teach! I teach the Kinder/Year 1 children at a little school about 10 minutes away. That keeps me fairly busy - have 3 teenage sons who are just finishing school, heading off to uni, deciding on an apprenticeship. We have 10 acres that we are hoping to subdivide to pay for our retirement - hopefully at Bateman's Bay.
You probably drove through Cobram on your trip - it is the Victorian side of the Murray to us.
Do you have any little guys keeping you busy?

Martha, you speak my language!
I love all the people who mutter about your holidays (I always tell them we have them so we don't kill their kids!), but when you suggest they swap jobs with you for a day they back track really quickly and tell you they don't know how you do it. I love it when you go on an excursion and parents suggest that you will enjoy your day off. Then when they come they stagger off the bus at the end of it and say "I don't know how you do this every day!" Should be a mandatory experience for all parents. I"ll get off my soapbox.
Our little school hovers around the 100 mark - I reckkon if all primary schools were limited to a school population of about 150 half our problems in society would be solved. I love little schools.
I know what you mean by our babies growing up too quick. My eldest is married, 6 foot 8, and I still think of him as my little one! I think I need grandchildren to dote on.
Like you, I really love what I do and have not intentions of retiring soon - hubby who also teaches - is not so enthusiastic and keeps wanting to sell up and go ...... - he can't answer that question. Very unsettling.
I hugely admire the young men (and women) who take on police work - how is he coping with the demands?
I'm trying to turn my house back into a resemblance of a home instead of a disaster area before I go back to school. Seem to be spending my time doing all thos little jobs my family needs doing!
Hope you have a lovely day - we are looking forward to a little more rain.

Hi Martha
I have so enjoyed our chats!
My children would agree whole heartedly with the never turn off bit. My husband swears I have sold my soul to my school.
I guess I am just lucky that it is my passion as well as my job, because there is not time for anything else! If you rolled a bed in to the back of your room and lived there you would always find something else to do!
When does your son get married? Come on, lots more details please. My eldest is just coming up to their 1st wedding anniversary - was the loveliest wedding. They did lots of it themselves as the wedding was where they lived, not where either parents live. My amazing daughter-in-law organised everything as well as studying mid-wifery at the same time as working full time. The demands they made on her were incredible. One of her lecturers told her she should not have picked that year to get married! I think some of these people are very tunnel visioned. Don't they realise that healthy nurses (teachers, police) are those with life balance?
I have a nephew in the army - went to Afghanistan for 3 months - and I think the whole family held their breath til he was home safe, and the other is in the Federal Police. I know several police officers and they really hate the domestic violence side of it. Getting into the youth work stuff and positive policing would be very rewarding. Where did he train? At Goulburn?
It was very blowy last night, with scudding rain, but nothing significant. I think it is just holding winter crops enough. Hope you didn't get caught up in the end of that dreadful storm that hit Brisbane, or are you too far south/inland for it to affect you? Crazy weather, isn't it?
Have a lovely day, won't you!

Martha - I like your character! It shows that you're mature and can laugh at yourself. I remember making scientific potions when I was a kid. My mom made me stop after I made my brother drink one that contained a few drops of dish soap to make it foam!
I choose not to participate in the dark side of Halloween with the emphasis on the occult and death. I know (most) others do so in fun, but that's just my own conscience driving my decisions. I chose my avatar because it was appropriate to my name and such a ridiculous contrast to most other people's avatar choices.
... And because it's sweet - and the part about dress up I like the most is watching people's souls light up from costumes that make them feel good about themselves - even when they're humorous.
