I remember one of my friends son refusing to eat an egg because it had a white shell. He had never seen one before.

Dana has the most amazing eyes! Hypnotising...

Google Chrome has spell check, I've never had spell check in here before, unfortunately it's American spelling.

When we had chickens, one of them laid white eggs, the rest brown.

I grew up with white eggs and did not even know that brown eggs exsisted until I was older. The eggs they sell here are mostly white.

Yes Gail, just following June's advice and looking for beauty, though I don't think her quote was actually referring to physical beauty

Most eggs in our supermarket are white. All of the " regular" priced ones are. Only premium priced ( think expensive) are brown. I remember growing up, my dad would buy eggs from a co worker who raised chickens, and those eggs were brown.

No tsunami ever got to Oz? I kept looking at news while waiting for those limited visiting hours today, and never saw any information.

The Boxing Day Tsunami in Indonesia, a few years back, the tides were affected here on the West Coast.. Am sure even reaching down in Albany, the swells at the Beach near the Caravan Park were much rougher than normal that summer.

June, thank you for reminding me. Yes, eggs were mostly white once and I don't remember when it changed. Or why? Are they using a different breed of chicken for mass egg-production these days? Must try to find out.
But now, I think I'd better start on dinner. Ciao for now, all!

I think there is a perception in OZ that brown eggs are more natural - false perception of course, probably started with an ad campaign..

OK, I've solved the mystery (thanks to my hubby who worked in the industry for 10 years)! Simple - brown eggs come from brown or black chickens, white eggs from white chickens. Why are they all brown now? Because they are a smaller sized bird and therefore they can keep more birds in the confined spaces. So contrary to popular belief, if you can buy white eggs (in Australia anyway), they are less likely to be from the big egg-laying farms/factories. Absolutely nothing to do with being healthier - which was what I had already ascertained from Google. Just business! Why did we think it could be any other reason?

from MizT's sister....

Last night, after Tricia left, they moved Al to a regular room, so things must be improving for him. He's in room 130. They did start giving him potasium because that was low. Maybe between that & the blood he got, he'll start feeling better soon.

Haven't heard from any of them this morning. I think Roger was going this morning & Tricia this afternoon. I'll let you all know when I hear more.

OH NO, I am not a good kitty mommy. Schreech was found dead in my front yard this morning as a neighbor went back out the front door instead of the back. From all indications, she was hit by a car. I had let her out when I was up for my intermission last night, and it appears she was hit sometime in the wee hours and made it back almost to the front stairs. How am I going to tell AL this? She was the one that would sneak into his lap after he went to sleep, and sneek because he would not let her up when he was awake, did not feel like being bothered.

Poor Screech.

Where is everyone???

Dylan actually pitched an inning today. His first time on the mound. He did not do too bad but he has a lot to learn.
