We're having a thunderstorm right now, so I'm gonna shut down and take a nap. After stressing my back while clipping the big dog, and then loading many heavy bags of feed, my back is in spasm. So it deserves a nap.

Hi all. Had a good father's day. Saw FIL yesterday and my dad today. Went with hubby to his softball game and his team won, always a good thing. Other than that, had a quiet day. See you all tomorrow.

Quite day here today for me. I did make a new recipe, stuffed zucchini, recipe I found on that other site. I liked it, but next time might change spices away from curry.

Will I never learn? I was chopping vegetables for the recipe, fine chop so lots of work, and back objected to my standing. Sat for a while on my kitchen chair and continued, but back still not happy. I should have left the kitchen and come back later, but so nearly finished, I thought, so I kept going. By time the zucchini had baked, major pain, and not yet time for meds again. Like Heidi, I took my back to bed for a short rest. Fell asleep for 3 and a half hours, was way over due for meds, and back was letting me know, big time. Took another hour for meds to work, DRATS, I might could have prevented this by taking a break mid chop. I KNOW this, but I do not practice this. Need to learn.

Once awake and pain beginning to subside, I remembered I was to call friend Caudelle when I was ready to do her daily BOP check. Yesterday I went to her, and we sat on her balcony to enjoy the late afternoon breeze. Today I asked her to walk down here. Getting presentable to go out in public was above my abilities at that moment. We had a nice long chat.

Yesterday when I checked it, her BP had shot up into the DANGER zone. She had picked up a new prescription for BP, but not taken it. I got her to take it right then. Told her if that BP did not come down, we had to phone her doc NOW, or else call the medics, that high. An hour later, her BP was down considerably, back where it was, still high but out of the danger zone. Tonight it was almost normal, another big drop, after the second time taking her BP med. I am so happy, really had been worried about her.

In talking, she mentioned another friend asked her if she was going to the play, Annie Get Your Gun, that our activities director will be in, at the theater next door. Caudelle said she looked at prices and told me, I just cannot afford that! I was able to tell her, we are invited FREE for the last dress rehearsal, this coming Wednesday. YEAH, one or 2 more joining the gang to go to the play. I will be back later to read and comment, hands objecting to typing and this time I shall listen to them!

Hugs to each of you, with extras, till later.

Every time I make a post longer than I comment, I loose it. So frustrating as it takes me awhile to write what I want to say.

Renae has her gyno op today in Brisbane. Josh will take the girls down on Fri when she might be able to appreciate their visit. Greg has gone with her.
Work has been so busy. Last night, we had a medical emergency, the fire alarm going off, 2 Dr visiting residents and a hypoglycemic resident, all at the same time. Only myself and the Registered Nurse working and I didn't know what to do 1st.

What a day I had today. I am teaching 4 days of summer school for kids that have to make up a class or classes in order to be promoted to the next grade. I had 75 kids show up today and I am the only adult in the room. The boys are coming with me to tutor but they don't count. If this was during the school year I would not be allowed to have more than 30 without another adult. Good thing it is only 4 days and I am thinking of all the extra money.

Nola, thinking of Renae. Good idea about the girls. I asked hubby to keep mine away until the anaethetic had worn off so they didn't think I was sicker than I was - and mine were older. Of course there was the added bonus of getting more sleep!

A friend went back to Adelaide with her husband to see his father. He was supposed to have a cancer operation but had a heart attack while waiting. They sat beside the bed for 5 hours straight every day. No matter how many times my friend tried to tell her husband that he was not helping his father get well by not letting him rest, he refused to do anything but be there! Even when there were 4 other visitors. I told her to tell him that an old pro like me (6ops and 2 strokes) would gladly strangle anyone who sat by the bed for 5 hours... Now I know everyone is different, but he was throwing out hints that were being ignored.

Heidi, when I think of Pandora I think of the bracelet that is really big out here now. Very expensive (unless you buy the knock offs).

MizT, I hope your pain has gone now... I can empathise.

You triggered yet another memory for me. Many many many years ago when I smashed my face in a car accident I was transferred to a hospital in Wollongong - so, over an hour for anyone to drive to visit me. The pain killers put me to sleep so if I had visitors I didn't ask for them as since they had travelled all that way I didn't want to fall asleep on them. One time that meant the time between meds was so long they had to get approval from the doctor to give me more - another hour, then they took an hour to work. I was sobbing in the end.

I'm doing bits and pieces around the house because I will be working tomorrow and Friday - yay!! That will be 4 days in this pay period. With casual rates that means I'm finally going to get my cysts removed and I'll get Alie tested for dyslexia. Who knew it runs in families???

It would explain why Alie has chosen all practical subjects for her HSC, though she is doing general maths.

In July she will spend a week working at a blacksmiths as a part of her metal work subject. Very cool! I've told her it will be very handy having a welder in the family.

I've been missing for days now, sorry. Between helping my friend deal with what happened with her mother and dealing with a particularly nasty bout of the flu myself, while trying not to spread it, and sleeping every spare minute I get. They have been away for the past 2 nights but here again for tonight before they fly home tomorrow.
After feeling guilty for the first day or so, she has finally seen it is not her fault. Her mother is the one who is wrong. And her treatment of her daughter and grandson will mean a lonely life for her because my friend will never go back to a woman who cannot love her own grandson. I don't know if she's just selfish and stupid or if it's because he's adopted. Heaven forbid and God help her if it's a racial bias.
Those of you on FB will have seen the photo of him with my dog Jewel. He is an exuberant funny boy and I always say he's my 6th grandchild. I'm happy to be his surrogate grandma.
(He's been telling everyone - 'we're not going back to Omi's, she yelled at me and said bad words' From the mouths of babes!!)

Cyn, I noticed that it took her mother treating her son the way she treated her for your friend to realise it wasn't okay. However it got there, I'm glad she is not going to put either of them through that again.

I hope you are right and it isn't the racial thing. If she has always been horrible to her daughter, it's just as likely that it's just that she's a horrible person.

Enjoy being a surrogate grandmother! I bet it's just as good as being an actual grandmother!

I don't think I told you that the girls got $1000 each in Mum's will. We hadn't mentioned it and just handed them the envelopes from the solicitor. Dana looked at it and said 'what is this?' A letter from a solicitor. What's a solicitor? A lawyer. Why am I getting a letter from a lawyer? Someone must be suing you. (Yep, we're mean)

They were both very moved that Mum had thought of them...

Heidi - I love the name Pandora - good choice!
Suzy - going back a few days - I'm not surprised by so many people thinking the world will end soon. I read some of those 'stupid people on FB' things that you posted on FB. I liked the one who said that Titanic can't be true because if all the people died, how could they be in the film.
Hello!?

Suzy - that's nice that your Mum remembered your girls in her will. My Grandmother remembered all 16 of her grandchildren, we each got $200, which in 1967 was at least the equivalent of $1000 now.
I set aside $5000 each for my kids out of my parent's money but it's gathering interest while they decide how best to spend it without frittering it away.

CynB.... I'm glad your friend has decided not to subject herself and her son to her evil mother again. The choice is hers, and she made the right one. Nobody should have to be subjected to that amount of abuse, or any amount of abuse for that matter. Having sex and giving birth is not a license to abuse freely, though some people seem to think so.

My girls got $1800 each from Don's father. When we moved to Australia the exchange rate turned that into about $3000 overnight. They had to wait until they were 18 to get it so will both end up with over $5000. Alie a little more than Dana since she had to wait over 3 years longer. Dana bought a car, I'm not sure what Alie will buy since she still doesn't have her learners permit.

It never rains but it pours! My kids' paternal grandparents, aged 92 & 91, have so far stayed together at home despite her having dementia and him having had a few minor strokes. He had a major one during the night last night. Prognosis does not look good. Stressful time for my kids and their cousins in the days to come.
My ex is of no help, he's not speaking to most of the family and his only sibling, a sister, passed away 12 years ago. So it's the grandchildren sorting it out.
I'll help where I can but have no authority as the exDIL - even though I love them and vice versa.

Oh, no, CynB. Your poor kids. I hope their paternal grandparents were smart enough to make living wills, so their grandkids won't have to make any hard decisions. At 91 and 92, they should have figured that they needed to be prepared for this. I know.... most people don't want to believe that they're mortal.

These are my children, even if they were unplanned and unexpected. I dearly love every one, and find it hard to part with them. I stress it very strongly with every buyer that I take a lifetime responsibility with these puppies, and if for any reason, whatsoever, they can't keep the pup or no longer want him, I will take him back.... at my expense. That means if I have to fly them back to me from across the country, I will. I have done that once. And will again if I have to.
