So an update is probably in order. I have always battled weight that can't make up it's mind where it wants to plateau. I have always had weight that fluctuates (is that really how it's spelled?) through about 5 pounds unless I am really losing or gaining. Today at weigh-in, I am smack in the middle of my 5 pound yo-yo. I am going to use this to my advantage over the holiday weekend and really, really eat well. My weekend is full of lots of physical activity, so what better time to eat the best-for-me foods. Although it will be tough with all the brownies, chips, brownies, cookies, brownies, etc, I know that there will be plenty of veggie trays and fresh fruit platters to park myself in front of. I don't really care for dips, pasta salads, or anything made out of mayo or miracle whip, so that will make my veggie and fruit eating even better. I have been telling everyone to jump off that horrible plateau and now I am going to take my own advice. Things are looking better in my life...Rosie-I got a really great lawyer and enough dirt to help me out. Anyone who is curious can ask me on my page. I don't mind telling, but I only want those who want to know, to hear it. Why bore those who don't want to know. Hey! This is supposed to be a page about fitness. So how about some fitness work that you can do while sitting on your hind end watching TV. Here it is. Sit on the floor (or on a sturdy chair). Hold a bed pillow straight out in front of you. slowly twist just your arms and shoulders from left to right. Be careful not to rotate your hips. This is a great core/abs workout. I do this one while watching commercials. With that, I am leaving you all for several days. My computer is still barely hanging on, so I am at the mercy of my wonderful friends. Take Care, I Care!

Weigh in report for week 21, I lost 2 pounds this week, so I've only got one more pound to loose to get back to my weight before the river cruise. I feel like I've lost my momentum a little bit ... can't seem to make myself exercise every day, am slipping a little in my healthy eating habits. Keeping it up week after week is getting harder as time goes on.

well done Keith and agree with you, some days have to really push to do the exercise but I know how easy the weight will go back on, so I have to perservere. also once the exercise is done I do feel good about myself for achieving it.
they say it is easier to maintain once you have the weight off so I hope that is true, but still a long way to go to get to that point.
cheers

Keith and Rosemary...I know what you both mean...While I'm not that far away fom my goal, it does get difficult to keep moving forward, so you have to give yourselves permission to just hold where you are right now. A vacation of sorts for the body! Care must be taken not to spoil all of your hard work and loss, but eating carefully and walking will help maintain...then you can gradually introduce more intensive exercises three times a week. Whatever you do, don't get to a point of giving up...you have come too far...Peace!

I haven't shifted that kilo gained last week, but at least haven't added to it. We have had so much rain that long walks have been out of the question. I got the the old static bike out yesterday so will build up time on that. Haven'y been out on my new bicycle as the weather is far too bad.
We are off on a golfing trip this coming weekend. We will be playing 3 consecutive days 18 holes and I shall be walking them all so I should come back fitter or a lot shorter with worn out legs.
Question of the week -
Why is it when you make up your mind to try and lose weight the invitations start pouring through the letter box and they all involve food?

Hello everyone!! This is the first time I have found this page, and will try to visit regularly, althouth this year the report is not so good. After losing 10 kilos last year I have only managed to lose 2 more up until now this year. I am now working full time which makes for a more sedentry lifestyle, Takes 2 hours in the train in the morning, 7 hours practically chained to my desk, and 2 hours travel home. So doesn't leave much exercise time, although I have been walking to the station in the mornings, about 15 minutes (or 12 at a pinch). Haven't had much time for lunches, so that is all to the good. Anyway enough from me, will keep you posted, and keep up the good work all!!!!

Glad to have you join us Bluey, Hope you find a way to get a little exercise in...It doesn't have to be all at once, but in 10 minute spurts at a time. Walking up and down steps is great, eventually running up and down...lol. Drink plenty of water, and watch portions and you will be where you want when you get there...no pressure, no stress Cheers to all.

Good for you Nancy...There are two schools of thought about weighing daily vs weekly, just for the reasons you cite. Keep up the better eating. I'm staying about the same, and walking continues, but not too much gym work. I hope to get back in the gym on a regular basis around August!!!! Hang in there everybody. It gets better every day!

Weigh in report for week 22, I stayed the same this week. I'd like to think my focus was on the garden show, but the truth is I just didn't try very hard this week. For some reason, my heart's just not in it lately.

Welcome Bluey. Nice to see everybody sticking with it and making progress.

Weigh in report for week 23, no change again this week. I've now been on this plateau for a month. I guess it's better than going up. I guess rosemary and I are treading water together. Maybe there's just too much ''water of course''

Wow, it's been too long. My computer has finally crashed for good, so please excuse my infrequent visits to this page. As there is no 'light at the end of the tunnel' as far as a replacement for it, I am at the mercy of friends and family to let me use theirs.

Keith!!!!! Don't give up!!! Plateau's are sooo normal! All you need to do is ride it out. It won't be long before you start to see the weight coming off again. If you stop treading water, you will sink and drown. If you keep swimming, eventually you will see shore. Okay, really bad comparison. Sorry about that. You get the idea.

Now, about me. Things here are busy as usual. With summer in full swing, I am outside with the kids everyday. We run around, bike ride, and play a lot of ball games.....but I must be eating completly wrong because I managed to gain another 2 pounds since I was on here last (May 25). I am not defeated, but I am discouraged. I have added a lot of fresh produce into our menu, and ended the high cal 'quick snacks' so I guess I will have to start taking notes on exactly what I am eating everyday. Maybe that will give me a better idea of what's going haywire.

My time is up. I will check back when I can. Keep it up, everyone. Put a smile on your face and look in the mirror. Then say to yourself, 'I am an awesome person. I CAN lose this extra weight. I CAN get healthy. I WILL make good choices today' It sounds like a corny thing to do, but sometimes, it's worth the laugh. Take care, I care.

Angie said a lot of really important things...Keith, she was right...don't give up and slide back! I weighed myself after weeks of not weighing or really exercising...just maintained my walking at least a mile a day. I am still 6lbs lighter than I was at the beginning of the year. I have indulged myself in food and drink as well as lazed about..I have eaten right and eaten wrong...but just that little walking has kept me from regaining all that I had lost. I am 9 lbs from my goal weight rather that 5lbs, but it could have been so much more..its you, my network...just being there..even when I've given myself permission to relax...I do enough to remain in check...so have all of you..don't give up the war, simply because you lose a skirmish or battle or two...regroup, and keep your eyes on the prize...victory is still well within our reach...Keith, for you in particular, but for all of us in general.....cheers...with the real deal, champagne of of course!!!

Weigh in report for week 24: I gained a pound this week. My own fault, not careful eating, not exercising, and drank a few beers. Doesn't bode well for the trip, since I gained 9 pounds on my last trip. Oh well. I can only hope I can keep it under control.

I hope the rest of you are doing better.

Week 24 weigh in report
same as last week, no change
total loss 13kg.
enjoy your trip Keith and just do your best with all you have learned about yourself in the last 6 months.
My aim for this time of the year was to have lost double what I have, however it hasnt happened but I am not giving up. I will continue to concentrate on healthy eating and exercise and I am sure it will continue to fall away, albeit very slowly.

cheers

Keith, your welcome for the smile! Mama-thanks. Rosemary--keep on keeping on!

My weight has plateau'ed since last week. I have been lately thinking that I will never hit my goal weight (which is just 7 pounds away. I have been as close as 3 pounds away and as far as 11 pounds in the last 8 months). I will continue to make the best choices possible. I have also started to..... gulp.... walk 5 mornings a week. you would all laugh your you-know-what at me if you saw me huffing and puffing after 2, yes 2, city blocks. But I am doing it. Gas in my town is 3.16 a gallon (it got as high as 3.42) so I now walk the kids to summer school.
Time's up....Keep going everyone!

Angie, I couldn't laugh at you because I'd be too busy cheering you on. Keep on huffing and puffing, and you'll find that it will get easier. Even with my breathing problems, I'm able to walk at lest a mile, sometimes more. Sure I huff and puff and whistle and have to stop occassionally, but I find I can walk longer and further w/o stopping as often...it'll happen for you too. No weight gain or loss, but at this point I'm happy to maintain. I'll get there one day...or I won't...the journey is still worth the effort! Hang tough all! Peace!

The dreaded after traveling weigh in for week 26:
I gained 7 pounds ... not surprising since I didn't try to be good. Actually, it's better than I expected it would be. Now that I'm back home for a while, I'll start whittling away at it again. The way I'm looking at it, I'm still down 21 pounds from where I started way back on January 2, so, I can't complain. Looks like those of us that are still here are dealing with our ups and downs and staying positive.

Thats great to go on holiday and stay within a decent weight gain...we all know or expect to gain, and when its not everthing we've lost so far,we are still ahead as you point out Keith. Now back to the drawing board. I've re- started my efforts for real again...portion control, walking and I'm back in the gym....but the big thing is no alcohol for at least a month, and nothing to eat after seven in the evening. My trip has now been decided...April in Paris...and else where..so I have time to get it together.

Hi Everyone! Long time no chat. C'mon over to my page and check out my new pics. Sorry I don't have time today to upload them directly to my page (something new, I guess). Check them out on my flickr page. My good news is that at weigh in this morning.......I am now only 4.8 pounds from my goal!! That's the closest I have been in over 2 months. Been swimming often and, um, I guess (sigh) I'll give a small amount of credit to the walking in the mornings, even though it's only a couple blocks. Did I mention yet how much I despise walking?

Keith, keep on trucking' man! You can live on beer, pasta alfredo, and ho-ho's if you want (although I don't recommend it, might get a belly ache...and need to take some vitamins). Regardless of what you put in your body, it takes a certain amount of calories to maintain weight. It all depends on how much you want to lose. Keep that ''healthy'' goal in mind and it will make it a lot easier.

Mama-Hi honey! Glad to hear that you are back at 'er.

Rosemary- I'm also drinking a lot more water than normal, so I guess you are rubbing off on me!

My brain isn't quite working this morning, so if I missed saying hello to someone....HI!! I think of you all often.

Weigh in report for week 27, I lost 3 pounds this week, so I'm back going in the right direction. I'm having an awful time with the whole idea of changing my lifestyle. It is so easy to drift back into the old habits. Thanks again for the encouragement and support. It sure helps to know there are still a few of us still trying.

Hi all. Had a really quick minute so I thought I would check in. Wanted to say hello and that I was thinking of you all during my speedy internet access at my neighbors.

Bluey, good to see that you are still around! Remember that maintaining the weight loss is just as important as losing it in the first place.

Forgive me if I have missed something important, I don't have the computer access like I used to so I can't keep up with the daily pages. However, I can't help but notice that Rosemary hasn't posted on this page in 2 weeks (very odd) and GrannieMo since the beginning of June and Nancy since the end of May?? Did I miss something or do I smell really bad?

Everything is ok here Angie...we're just not checking in as often, but all those you mention are still hanging in there. My fingers are crossed and all of that other stuff will take care of itself. The little one will more likely adjust better if he knows he's still the same to you...if you get my drift. Continue to believe in yourself...things will be ok. Peace!

missed the weigh in last week so will catch up with that on monday. I think that I am more comfortable with myself at the moment and so the food watching has not been so good. the middle of winter here and some not so good choices for evening meals. time to knuckle down again.
on the positive side ....
have started going to gym 3 days a week so am hoping that will help push me off this plateau.
will check in properly next week.

Weigh in for week 29, I gained 4 pounds since my last weigh in 2 weeks ago. I suspect most of that happened at the beach house, but in general I'm finding it very hard to maintain this new life style. Old habits die hard. I so love red meat, beer and chocolate, and find all three so hard to resist. I'm not giving up, though.
