The following is in our news today:

Canadian police and intelligence agencies have thwarted an alleged plot to carry out a major terrorist attack to derail a VIA passenger train.

The accused, Chiheb Esseghaier and Raed Jaser, live in Montreal and Toronto. Esseghaier and Jaser are charged with conspiring to carry out a terrorist attack against, and conspiring to murder persons unknown for the benefit of, at the direction of, or in association with a terrorist group. The men are not Canadian citizens. The men were allegedly being directed and guided by al-Qaida elements in Iran, but there is no reason to believe that the planned attacks were state-sponsored, according to RCMP.

The alleged plotters have been under surveillance for more than a year in Quebec and southern Ontario. The investigation was part of a cross-border operation involving Canadian law enforcement agencies, the FBI and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

We got the phone call this morning to say MIL had passed away during the night. It was amazing that she was able to go for two weeks with no food or liquids. It shows how strong her heart was. Six weeks short of her 99 birthday. RIP Rita.

Hi everyone.
I haven't been here for quite a while. Mum had a hip replacement done before Easter and between hospital, rehab and multiple visitors I have been run off my feet.
Everything went well and she is now home again. I'm only visiting twice this week (Anzac day and Saturday) as now we are short staffed at work and I have to be here every day possible.
Oh well, it's only 2 and a bit weeks and I go on holiday.
In the middle of all the above, Kevin was offered an early retirement package so we are working our way through that as well. Talk about turning your whole life upside down.
We are all well and so are our nearest and dearest so there is little to complain about.

Sort of a long day. I did not bowl but I was umpire for a district semi final pairs game. I did enjoy sitting in the sun and only got called 4 times in 4 hours.
Ken and his sister got the funeral organised for next Tuesday. Thursday(Anzac Day) is a public holiday and that is the reason for the delay.
Ken is OK and in fact has gone and played bridge this afternoon.
I also got second prise in the raffle,$10 voucher for a local supermarket.
I dropped my Kindle when reading in bed this morning and it hit something hard on the floor. It is jammed and I cannot turn the page or even turn it off! I was near the end of a murder mystery and would like to know how it finishes.

The back pain isn't from anything I did. I have a virus, and the whole body hurts... back, legs, head, neck and throat. I also feel quite nauseous and feverish. Pity, 'cause it's a gorgeous day outside.

Vicki, pleased your Mum's surgery went well.
So Kevin is another casualty of Can-Do's, I see. You two do have a lot of deciding what to do next, don't you?
Hugs to June and Ken, Heidi and her sore back, Broni and her cous, and anyone else needing them.
Col got sent to Gladstone yesterday (600kms) to deliver a load to a construction site on a nearby island this morning. At 4am he found that there's no booking for him on the barge and the people at the construction site are not expecting him. So he's on his way back, fully loaded still - what a wasted journey! And a sleepless night for both of us.

What a pain in the arse, CynB. I hope Col gets paid for his time that they wasted.

I can't believe that nobody here has heard of ''Pride and Prejudice and Zombies''! It was on the New York Times Best Seller list. The same author who wrote ''Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter''. ''Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters'' is a delight, too. They start with the original classic novel, and add to it brilliantly, turning them into entirely different stories while retaining almost all of the original text.

Heidi, with the pain being caused by a virus, does that mean once the virus is gone pain levels will go back down again? I am glad to know it was not something you did. Get well soon, hope it is a short lived bug.

June (and Ken), thoughts and prayers go out to you as you prepare to lay your MIL to rest. Hopefully good memories of times past will be a comfort to you during this time of grief.

CynB what a waste of fuel and man hours, someone should have planned that better. AND it will mean the trip will have to be made again, later?

Broni, hope the issues with your cuos are soon worked out.

Victoria, do you welcome Kevin's early retirement? Or something you were not ready for yet? Glad your Mum is doing well after her surgery.

Did I say that I went out yesterday and bought 2 self watering pots, dirt to go in them, flowers to plant in them and then potted them up and put them out on the patio. I received many 'thank-yous' from other residents, and several could not understand why I would spend MY money to do that. Best I could explain was I bought flowers every spring at my former home, this is my home now, so I buy flowers to make it pretty and so I can enjoy them. I was so tired and hurting, really did way too much, I fell asleep when I got back to my chair, never did have dinner. I slept hours in the chair, woke about bedtime and read a while and then back to sleep in my bed. I feared today would find me curled up in a ball in a corner somewhere, but surprisingly I had a good day today.

Time for something for dinner here. I 'bought my lunch' today, had ordered from lunches available here, and it was delish. A lovely rather large serving of grilled salmon. I had found I was not buying and cooking fish and I really like it, but most fish is best the day it is cooked, planned overs just not too successful. It is hard to buy just one serving of fish to cook, so I ordered a meal each day they have fish. It was really good. I have a salad and desert from lunch to start my dinner, might just have some soup to go with it, add some fruit, should be enough for anyone.

Hugs to each of you, with extras.

MizT... I think the pain started in the back because that is the most fragile part of my body. It should feel MUCH better once I'm over this virus.

Hi all!
It's another beautiful morning here. This is my favourite time of the year with cooler mornings and beautiful warm days.
We are quite happy about Kevin's earlier retirement. He will be paid for 2 years (untaxed) plus all his entitlements-holiday pay and long service leave. Since he was only going to work until 65 which is 2 years and 6 months away, he will be just as well off to retire now. We had previously talked about him taking up a retirement package if they were offered so it didn't take much discussion. We had a trip to visit a financial planner and know that we can afford to live reasonably comfortably on his superannuation so all is good. Now I just need to boost my super a bit for when I retire in a few years time.
Kevin has lots of plans for what he will do once he retires but getting the yard into some order and repainting the house are his first priorities.
It's time I started earning some of the money I get paid for. Enjoy your day all!

Vicki - I'm glad that the decision over Kevin's early retirement was an easy one. I thought he was younger (although you've probably told us before) so that is a good age particularly if such a nice retirement package is offered. My brother, also 62, has recently accepted a similar retirement package. He and his wife are off on the grey nomad trail for a few years and then contemplating relocating down here in the Redlands where my sister and I live. That will be nice.
