BIOLOGY EXAM

Students in an advanced Biology class were taking their mid-term exam. The last question was, 'Name seven advantages of Mother's Milk.' The question
was worth 70 points or none at all.

One student, in particular, was hard put to think of seven advantages. However, he wrote:

1) It is perfect formula for the child.
2) It provides immunity against several diseases.
3) It is always the right temperature.
4) It is inexpensive.
5) It bonds the child to mother, and vice versa.
6) It is always available as needed.

And then the student was stuck. Finally, in desperation, just before the bell rang indicating the end of the test, he wrote:

7) It comes in two attractive containers and it's high enough off the ground where the cat can't get it.

He got an A.

Lol Theresa!! I'm glad you came in when you did because I would have missed the top.

Still no sign of Tami. Hope she hasn't lost power or something.

Judy, how are your lessons going. That is such a brilliant idea for therapy.

Theresa, I have a pattern for a knitted Crown. It was in a magazine. I'm making one foot Tahli and if it looks good I'm thinking of making a couple for children's oncology Ward to see if they like the idea

Suzy, the knitted crown sounds very cute. When you finish one can you post a photo? I would like to see, please.

I am up early today, but surprised I slept as well as I did, with the new med. It usually gives me the wide awakes. Would still be asleep except for 2 things. My hip was hurting a bit, I was trying to ignore it, doing a fair job, until the trash man came. that big truck is noisy!

Hitting 'enter' does not post comments in Sudokuland hehehe.

Hello All, Finally checking in on this very rainy Friday. I did write a comment last night, but was interrupted by the phone and when I got back, the computer felt I had been away too long so got rid of my post....since I had caught some of the ailments that have been flying around SA, I didn't feel like repeating the post or at least what I remembered of it...will just have to forget about that and go with the flow.
Suzy...I find so much pleasure in your post and am so happy to see that Dana has absorbed all of your teachings, training, examples and yelling, crying, etc. to doing such a wonderful job with Tahli. I felt when you two were having problems, she would be a late bloomer...and she has flowered just beautifully, and of course all of the folk here knew that you would just be another loving grandmum spoiling the baby rotten...and it appears to be the case...Enjoy...life is good!♥

Great topp Theresa...and yes, I too had my tongue out..lol.
Judy I think you are brilliant coming up with the idea and going through with the piano lessons...do have fun and stretch those fingers often.
Cyn....I remember those bittersweet times when I came across items after the death of a very close person and the memories evoked...glad you had the time to reflect on the good times and love that were shared and hopefully you felt a sense of peace too, knowing that they were no longer fighting a battle but were at rest. ♥
Heidi, glad you have found good homes for the pups so quickly...and you have kept a smile on my face with the depantsing act every time I think about it...those are so mischievous little guys...you have given them a great start in life. I was saddened to hear of Lucy's death, but she too had found a loving home with your gang. Continue to take pride in all that you do.
Miz T...you may ache and have to deal with reaction to meds...but you also positively glow as you write about your daily doings from relaxing in the recliner and napping to floating in that delightfully sounding water or tending your shared love of flowers with others and trying to ward off those who try to interfere with your care of the
flowers you plant....love reading your newsy post...
Tami, hope all is improving and you are able to rest a bit before having to undertake any thing more stressful than having a good meal and an adult beverage while surrounded by friends and family. Best wishes continue for your mom and dad.
To those not mentioned by name...I not only know who you are, but send you all of the best wishes for fun filled, painfree, non-stressing days for as long as possible. Hugs, prayers and anything else that might make your day better are also included. Take care, because I care about all of you. Peace,Love and Soul.♥

Suzy, the crowns sound like a really good idea. I'm sure kids in a hospital would like them. You are such a sweetie! My sister used to knit hats and booties for preemies. I don't think she does much any more because she has arthritis in both hands.

I have not heard back from the fire chief yet about my blankets. I told hubby if I haven't heard back by October, I'm taking the sample blanket and my offer back. There are others who want them. I am a bit disappointed because it has been about 3 months. Here we keep hearing about shopping locally and donating locally. We stopped doing our major shopping locally because of the lack of customer service, although I must admit that once Walmart moved in, customer service in other stores improved. As for donating locally, my experience with the blankets is not making me lean towards that either.

Theresa.... there's a chance that they don't want to be encumbered with non-essentials on the trucks and during emergencies. Those vehicles have very little extra space for things like blankets and toys, and generally too few personnel to deal with them. What they need is someone to follow their emergency vehicles to hand out the donated delights. Your blankets are a wonderful and generous idea, but sometimes logistics just don't let generous notions work.

Cannot remember when I last posted, so to make up I am stealing Dag's recipe from TOS for all you topsiders who do not visit there:
Barbecued Spare Ribs

1kg pork spareribs (known here as American racks of ribs, can also be used for beef ribs)
4T tomato ketchup or sauce
2T clear honey
3T soy sauce
3T wine vinegar
2t tomato paste
1t salt
1 1/2C stock (I use chicken)

To garnish -
1-2 spring onions (green parts, finely sliced)

Place ribs in roasting pan. Mix together all marinade ingredients and pour over ribs. If time allows marinate for 2-3 hours.
Cook in a preheated hot oven, 220c for 15 minutes.
Transfer ribs to a roasting rack. Lower temp to moderately hot, 190c, and cook ribs for further 30 mins, turning once, till brown and crisp.
Meanwhile, place the roasting pan over a moderate heat and boil the cooking liquor until reduced to a thick sauce.
Separate ribs and arrange on a serving dish and pour over the sauce.
Garnish with the spring onion.
Love and Hugs.
Back Later.

Mamacita, glad you are feeling well enough to join us again. I do miss you when you're not around.

Heidi, I don't think you're right about the space issue. When I was taken to the hospital in a fire department ambulance (pregnant with Alie, Dana along for the ride), Dana was given a stuffed toy in the ambulance to help her feel less frightened.

Theresa, I'm sure there are a lot of people who would really appreciate your blankets. It may be that the people who have it would really appreciate it too but have to jump through bureaucratic hoops to get them approved.

Broni, one day we will have to make them. I miss going out for ribs.

Fun, but expensive day today. Alie had her singing lesson today instead of Thursday so all 3 of us went up. Hubby and I walked around the shops while she had her lesson and then all 3 of us went and had Mexican for lunch. That's an expensive activity here - $25 each for a meal, but soooo worth it. Then we all walked around the shops and bought a few odds and ends including some headphones for Alie for her birthday. They were 20% off so only (?) cost $80 instead of the regular $100.

Came home to some pretty scary news. A prisoner has escaped from the new prison - just around the corner from us. He has been convicted of some particularly violent crimes... We haven't told Alie since her room is now relatively isolated.

Suzy, so scary!

Off to a memorial service this morning for the neighbour's wife who passed away last November. It's a rainy day and I am achey, so we'll see how long I last. Starts with a Catholic mass, followed by a light luncheon prepared by the Church ladies, and then internment. We'll see how well my back does sitting on the church pew and depending on how long the service lasts, and then we'll see if my back is up to more sitting at the luncheon and then standing outside for the internment. She was a nice lady and her hubby misses her very much ... they were a very close couple.

Hi everyone, I did a fast read, then decided to look at the photos Joy downloaded from my camera. ONLY 204, identified by random numbers only. I have a big job renaming files of the ones important to me, that I might want to share. So, as soon as I relearn how to put up photos on my page here, I will start out with photos I made of my flowers in the window. The occupants have changed, some went to sister, some went to pots outside here, some I gave away as I acquired more, but you will get the idea, my living window treatment hehehe.

NOW, if I remember how to download them, I will be able to take photos and share with you. But do not hold your breath, I have several projects in the works now, so many I had to make a list.

I went out yesterday, thought I could do a fast trip to Wally World for a phone card. My cell is Straight Talk, a pay as you go, no contract kind, least expensive I could find, requires a new activation card each month. It was a bit cloudy, so I checked weather website, yep, a nice little thunderstorm coming our way, but not too close. If I hurry. . .

Storm hit while I was in store, but was almost passed by time I checked out, A brief wait and I got to car in only a sprinkle. My new huge umbrella is HEAVY, and cumbersome in the wind, when you are trying to push a buggy and keep dry hehehe. OK, so storm was over, how about driving down the street to Aldis, for strawberries? On special again, 99Cents a pound again, I got 3.

I have eaten more strawberries this spring than I have ever in my life, and enjoyed every delicious bite. At that price, they are the least expensive per serving of any fruit I can buy this week, about 33 cents a serving. I think I got plums at 25 cents each and grapefruit for 49, or 25 cents a serving last week. Good thing when I eat at least 3 fruits a day.

When I got home, only one parking place in the lot, and it was raining again. I had bought more than strawberries, but the cold things were in the cooler. They could wait till the rain left. About 4 hours later I did my first grocery transport in my chair. My backpack on it seems to hold a good bit, I got almost everything into it, except the boxes of canned colas. Have not yet figured how to transport them. One at a time, on my foot rest is best idea so far. But Joy came for dinner, and she brought those up for me, yeah! she also took my walker down and ut in the car for me. Now when I go to lakeshore, I can take my chair down to lobby and abandon it, use cane (did I tell you I found a place to transport cane without running into anything?) to get to auto, then have the walker to get from parking lot to pool. It is all coming together. Hope to try it out today, when they open at noon. Special activity this morning, so facility not open for other than that.

OK, I have rambled on to long, hugs to each of you, with extras. Till later.

MizT.... every time I read one of your wonderful posts, I sense such happiness in your new life. You're an entirely different person than you were before you moved. Hi all. Sorry I have been MIA recently. I have just been busy getting ready for end of school, which is now over. It was a rough end of year and I am not a happy camper. I was promised help that never came and now I am being made to look bad by someone I considered a friend. I was asked to come in this week in order to get ready for next year. Another week of pay is always helpful. The boys will be coming with me to help clean up the school. A bunch of teachers are coming in to try to beautify the school and teacher lounge. Mitchell will get volunteer hours, Dylan is coming just because. Did I mention that Dylan fractured his finger on Monday? It is not a bad fracture. He is going back to the orthopedic in two weeks and will probably lose the splint at that time.

It's always hurts more to be stabbed in the back by a friend, Tami. Et tu, Brute?

I had asked you how Dylan broke it, and which finger. You vanished after that and never answered. I'm SO glad that the cause wasn't the tropical storm.

It's GREAT to see you back, my friend.

Morning all,

Theresa, I have been to a Catholic mass/funeral and found it very moving. I hope you make it all the way to the internment - mostly because that means the pain didn't get too bad.

MizT, those are great fruit prices! I have to go out and buy some for Alie today. We're doing a health experiment and lots of fruit is required.

Tami, I'm glad it was only being busy that kept you away. I'm sorry about your 'friend', that hurts.

It's morning, they haven't caught the escapee yet, but he'd be gone from here by now so I can relax - until the next one.

I did something and didn't think it through. On the police site on facebook I was checking for news of the escapee I saw a sad little post. 'Does anyone care if I die?' I typed underneath 'I care.' This morning I get up to a friend request from this person. Turns out she is a 13 or 14 year old from a local high school - not one I teach at - and her page has other comments about suicidal thoughts and a photo of her cutting. Now I'm a teacher and fall under mandatory reporting guidelines. I can't do anything until Tuesday though as it is a long weekend here. I accepted her friend request (if I care, I couldn't reject it and possibly give her a push) but won't comment on her page.

Theresa, I went to a Catholic Mass for a friend's mother. It was not long, so I hope yours today was not long also. I had never been to a funeral mass before.

Made it to Lakeshore today. Enjoyed the swim a lot. Really needed it after I decided to go shopping, Meds had left me feeling good, and I over did activity. But I came home with two new tops. I have several from years previous that are looking a bit worn, need to be retired. Couple of them are favorite shirts, but the poly cotton knit is kind of pilled. It will be hard getting rid of them. But I like the new ones. One is so low cut back and front, not risque, but the double scoop makes it want to fall from the shoulders. Designer added a tie that goes acros the back. I do hope I do not regret that one, but the prettiest shade of pinkish red, a color I do not have. I had a nice 2 hour nap once home, but now I am aching a lot. I am wondering if perhaps I just wrote down time I was to take meds, and did not take it?? I will repeat at earliest I can and hope to relieve the shoulder pain fore bedtime.

Heidi, thank you, I am happy here, and I do enjoy having friends to greet and tallk with. Just to and from the car today I saw several, stopped to chat with them. I saw Edwina and Caudel and Rom=n on the way out. Neighbor, former neighbor, and a young man who is paraplegic. Today was first time I saw Ron in his power chair, he prefers to use his manual chair. 'I need my exercise'. Today he had gone to grocery via wheelchair. It is up and around the park, about 8 blocks all together. the UP part is what he cannot do in manual chair, a rather steep incline along the park, he cannot push himself up that grade, so uses his power chair. I admire him for keeping as active as he can.

Coming back in, I saw and spoke to Margaret, who was out cleaning things again. she is the OCD resident, and spends her day inspecting all the floors and grounds, picking up trash, fixing things she things need fixing. Yesterday at the movie, she was sweeping the floor of popcorn DURING the movie! Picking up and putting away empty plastic cups and bowls. She is always moving. Also saw and talked with Romona, another neighbor. OH, there were no parking places in the lot today. I had to park in the alley, in visitor parking, a LONG way to walk in. Did not try bringing anything with me, got chair from lobby and back to pick up gym bag and purchases. That was a lot easier. But as I was saying, it is nice to see and talk with so many people. Before I moved, I did not see that many people in a week!

Heidi, how did the horse race go, I did not watch it.

Suzy, yes, I imagine the escapee is long gone from your area. Itmight be a good idea to get all doors lockable now though, as you say, before next time. I am so glad you told the young girl you cared. It is so important that someone hear and reach out to people who mention suicide. I have asked many 'Do you have a plan?' and then helped them to either talk it out or

I have asked many 'Do you have a plan?' and then helped them to either talk it out or get help. Suicidal behavior and signs of abuse are two things I always address. I hope you can help this girl get treatment she needs. Question, though. Even though this child is not from your school, not one of your students, are you still legally obligated to report? That is a LOT of responsibility if so.

I ran over again, good that I copied fore posting. I leave hugs for each of you, with extras.

It was a good race. Very exciting, though I did NOT expect the winner. But that's what keeps horse racing exciting. Palace Malice won. Oxbow came in second and Orb came in third. This is a tough race at a mile and a half.

Morning all ... didn't get quite enough sleep ... sigh.

The service yesterday was really nice and lasted about three-quarters of an hour. I had not been in the Catholic church before, and it is gorgeous. It was interesting to watch the ceremony. I had the order wrong, the lunch was after the internment. We did go to the internment but not the lunch. The pews were very uncomfortable, straight backs with not much depth to the sitting part of the pew. There was a good turnout. The poor man who had lost his wife looked totally overwhelmed.

After that we went and got groceries and then went for a drive just in the area along the river.

Last night some young neighbours had a party, complete with firecrackers. The police did show up, thank goodness. There are (is???) a group of young people living down the street from us who play in a band, and last night they had the amplifiers cranked way up. They usually don't play past 10:00 p.m. so it's not much of a problem, and they play rock and roll, my favourite. But it's those darn firecrackers!!!

What a surprise. I slept through the morning when I should have been moving hay. Once IH returns from church (He's one of THOSE) I promised to use my tractor to lift a large fallen tree off a fence while he cuts it up with his chain saw. I'll use the palette lifter attachment on the front end of my tractor for that, and take off the hay spear.

Oh yes, I nearly forgot....

Well, I put the palette lifter on the tractor, drove back to the other end of the property where the tree is down, and the sky sprung a massive leak. I explained to IH that he doesn't want to be fooling with a chainsaw when: a) the ground is slippery, and b) there's lightning around. He saw the logic of my argument and we decided to hold off until it's not raining. I'm gonna let him try to do this job, since he's so cheap, but I believe it's a job for professionals. This is a BIG tree. I don't think he can cut through a meter thick trunk.

I think I have a part-time job the rest of the summer working as a camp counselor. I need to put some money away to pay for Dylan's Bar Mitzvah. It's hard to believe that most of the puppies will be leaving in just 5 1/2 days. I'm REALLY gonna miss them. They're so affectionate and sweet. They're already housebroken. They all come when they're called. And they're smarter than most people.... at 8 1/2 weeks old.

Greetings, Everyone! This is just going to be a quick visit, but I wanted to let everyone know all is well here, just busier than I'd prefer.

Nola, I'm sorry I missed your birthday. I hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable day! Belated birthday wishes to you for an amazing year! I hope your son Paul is improving and he's soon rid of the chest infection! I also hope the freezer keeps working for a good long time!

Heidi, I'm so sorry to hear about Lucy. R.I.P., Lucy. You gave her some good years and did what you could for her after her fall into the pond. Great news that you are finding good homes for the puppies. I hope they all work out! Hopefully you're feeling better now that you have refilled your meds! I can't imagine what it must have been like to rescue and move Lucy. Was she also tall for a collie, or just stocky? I hope you have a day or 2 soon when you can rest your body!

Broni, your weekend sounded extremely busy and exhausting. I hope your friend can find a way to attend the craft fair/market on a regular basis without relying entirely on your help! Take care of yourself, please.

June, you manage to fit SO much into every day! I don't know how you keep your energy level high enough to do all that you do. I hope the people at the bowls club appreciate all of your efforts! Hopefully you sleep well when you find the time to sleep! Please remember to take care of yourself! Sleeping all day Friday sounds like a good idea.

MizT, hopefully the garbage truck driver can stay away from the flowers you have planted and now are helping recover from his lack of driving skills. As far as dealing with M and her obsessive compulsive tendencies, it's worth trying the notes from the plants, but they may not help get the message across.

Theresa, I'm glad your AC has now been installed - and hopefully chased the high temperatures away, at least for a while!

Suzy, I hope you're well, and hope Dana is OK as she waits for her procedure. I hope your strike had a positive impact on the amount of help you get around the house.

Tami, thinking of you and hoping your Dad is doing better! Please give Bernie and Bobbi (and yourself) a big {{{HUG}}} from all of us!

Cyn, I hope you're able to continue putting off lighting the fire for a while yet. I hope Col is feeling well.

I'm afraid I'm not going to last any longer. At least I was able to read page 642. I'm thinking positive thoughts for all of you, and sending healing vibes, prayers, {{{{{HUGS}}}}} and to be shared. I hope to get back tomorrow!

Heidi, how many still do not have homes? I know you were keeping one, but other than her, how many were you willing to sell?

Up for intermission. Pain in the hip I ws lying on, I sleep on my side, woke me. Did not think I had been in bed long, but a glance at the clock said it ws time I could have more meds if needed. they were needed. I have to sit up about 15 minutes after swallowing anything, or I get reglux, so here I is, up at almost 2 am and very sleepy. that is good, in a couple more minutes, I should be able to fall in bed and be asleep soonest.

Friday is the birthday party for June, and I will be celebrating. Seventy, never figured I would live that long. My father died at 56, thought that would lower my chances for a ripe old age, but Mom lived till 86. All of her siblings, most of her uncles and cousins lived long lives, even the brother who terribly abused his body with drugs, alcohol and cigarettes and just every poor habit imaginable. I must have inherited her genes.

Time to sleep again, hugs to each of you, with extras, till later.

There are still 2 boys for sale: Spike and Bear. Both are great boys. Right now, Spike is sitting on my right foot, chewing on a stick, as I type. I wouldn't mind keeping both of them. I MAY have talked my favorite cousin into one of them. He's always had dogs, and his only one left is now elderly. I'd happily deliver either one to him in Wisconsin.
