I think I kind of agree with the guy in this story... how do you get your 19 year old away from a registered s3x offender?

Good evening all.
Suzy - thank you for that link to the girl who'd written the novel about dealing with Epilepsy. Even though she's been dealing with it herself since she was 13, she wrote her experiences and thoughts as a novel. Interesting - and a lovely, inspiring girl.
Julie - good cyber thoughts headed towards the tiny babies. Hope they hold their own. My hubby's twin sisters were not much bigger than that and survived and thrived.
I've forgotten everything else. Good inspiration for the TOPP, Theresa.

Well, hubby found out from his sister yesterday that not all is wewll with his parents. His father refuses to get help with one of his eyes and his hearing. He had a doctor's appointment but cancelled it. His mom is also being difficult. She goes to the doctor but won't follow his advice because she thinks she knows better (she was a nurse many decades ago). There is also a question about their hygiene as his sister has noticed they are always wearing the same clothes. His sister does their housework for them. It is going to be a difficult time as there is no way his parents will leave their home willingly. What to do, what to do.

Theresa, when it rains, it pours. I will be keeping you and your family in my thoughts. I hope that someone can talk to your parents and get them to allow people to help.

Thanks, Tami. It wouldn't be so bad if life could just throw us one problem at a time. If hubby and his sister go the route of forcing his parents into a nursing home, they will never talk to them again. Hubby is really down in the dumps ... he tries to hide it, but ...

Theresa, I feel for you. My dad had to put his mom in a nursing home and it was not an easy choice. They only good part, if you can call it good, is that she suffered from dementia and did not know what was going on anyways. I am not looking forward to having to make a decision like that. Luckily I have an older brother to help with those choices. Also, my parents are still in pretty good health for their ages.

Love you Mommy.

I get so mad when people say that god never gives you more than you can handle. That's !!! If that were true, there would be no suicides.
You and your family are going thru' more at once than anybody should have to deal with. What a nightmare. The new problem with your In-Laws is a no-win situation. It may be necessary to let it progress as they want, until it's an emergency situation with only one choice. You can't always control someone else's life, even tho' it's in their best interests. They're still at the stage where they want their own independence and freedom. That does have to be respected. Maybe someone can diplomatically offer to come in once a week and do their laundry? As a gift to them to make their lives easier, not as a criticism of their hygiene.

Morning all,
Theresa, my second thought about your in-laws, my first was oh no!, was that you haven't mentioned any kinds of dementia problems, just downright stubbornness (if that is a word). In that case my 2 cents is that they are still adults and get to make their own mistakes, no matter how bad those choices are. If there is dementia, then the tough choices come into it. Either way, there is nothing you can do and you need to let it go for now - too much is too much, so mummy Suzy says - look after you and your daughter for now and worry about them later.

Julie, I do hope we can convince my insurance to cover it. Since I cannot take antiinflamatory drugs, not much but narcotics available to me when Tylenol will not work. If this would keep me from taking so much narcotic, seems they should cover it. We will see. I did have over 24 hours of pain relief from that, just getting one area to calm down helps the others too. I think they feed on each other, one area hurting makes one tense, that makes another area hurt, adding . . . well, you get the idea.

Julie, prayers and best wishes for your friends tiny grandies. Way back when I worked OB, babies that size had a chance, we had the first 2 pounder to survive while I was there. that was 25 years ago, and babies that size now have a much better chance. Medicine has come so far.

Suzi, great sale, you snagged some real bargains. Nice of Dana to phone ya and let you know. At least you know she thinks of you.

Heidi, hubby is the meat and taters person, and if he had to make a choice, well just give him meat. Had to change that to smaller portions of leaner meats after his heart surgery, but still, if he was to fix his plate when I had cooked "planned overs", well, there would be no leftovers! Often I have had to call him back and say, dear, I am eating also, you must share. "Oh I thought you had yours" hehehe, yeah sure. Maybe soon again he can eat, and I will get him a ig steak soon as he can manage it.

Heidi and Suzy, you may be right about the in-law situation, just leave it be. But for how long? There is no dementia involved as there was with my mother more than 10 years ago. The one thing my sister-in-law was worried about was her father said not to bother cleaning the tub because they don't use it any more. They only have the one tub!!!! She questioned him about it but he just clammed up. I think there's probably a touch of depression. They refuse to let anyone else in the house to help them.

Theresa, here Medicare has discovered it is better both financially for them as well as better emotionally and physically for the older persons to keep them in their own homes as long as possible, but provide them with the needed assistance. Housekeeping aids, personal hygiene aides to help them bathe and change clothes 3 times a week. Is there anything like this available in your area? Sometimes if it is "the nurse" instead of family asking things of them like getting a bath, it is much easier.

If not, then I agree with Suzy, let them do what they want untill such time it becomes an emergency. But to protect their children from negligence charges, be sure to document who visits when and what they suggested and how those suggestions were refused. It is a shame, but these days you must "cover your a$$"

Theresa, perhaps they bathe at the sink, a sponge bath? My in-laws did for years, because of a fear of falling, and because they got too cold getting wet all over. they put a chair in front of sink in bathroom, and got clean, but just not my idea of the way to do it. It suited them.

Theresa, they may be doing wash cloth baths. Though if they aren't changing their clothes???

Do you have help lines in Canada? Here there is a help line for almost everything. Perhaps a call to one of them for advice. Though come to think of it, do-gooders tend to overreact so that might cause problems too. Shutting my mouth..

I just got some sad news. Gil's assistant, Pam, has a brother, Greg, who's had health problems for a while. Unexplained seizures, etc. He has been treated at that hospital i don't like, and he's gotten worse. Last week they did a 6 way bypass on him, then sent him home the next day. I don't know what happened, but he was rushed back there yesterday. He's now in a coma, and the hospital has given up on him. They say that he'll be dead in a day or two. I've known Greg for years, a lot longer than I've known Pam, and this is a shock.

Just heard on the news that a 6.5 earthquake hit Japan and that tsunami warnings have been issued. What else does that country have to put up with? My thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Japan.

Alie anecdote: Yesterday there were auditions for people to perform at school assemblies. Alie was auditioning with 2 friends. One of the people to audition was going to take a long time to set up so the teacher asked if anyone wanted to sing to fill in the time. Alie sang the song she wrote in Year 7. You're singing that at assembly. But I was just singing it to fill in time. You're singing it at assembly. Okay sir.

That's my home run, RBI equivalent. Chest puffs out...
