Suzy, thank you for the link, I enjoyed browsing through and learning about the Royal Easter Show.

I am trying to plant a few containers for my back porch. My back said that was not a good thing to do for long at a time. bummer, I had hoped that silly back was cured, seems not.

Now I must encourage hubby to do a bit of plumbing. We bought the new faucet and the connector, plus the cleaner and the glue for the PVC pipe. As he said, a 10 minute fix, but [perhaps an hour of encouragement to get him going.

Remember when I told you that pipe broke, oh, about 5 or 6 weeks ago. We just paid the water bill covering that leak, seems we washed an extra $20 of water down the yard. It could have been much worse if our friend had not dropped by to check on us and found and repaired it when he did. Nice to have neighbors like that!

That aroma is almost as good as bread baking. Hmmmmm... That sounds good. Maybe I'll bake some bread.

Mizt.... after those epidurals, you have to be very careful, and only gradually increase bending over jobs. Gardening, tho' rewarding, has to be done slowly and cautiously.

Speaking of gardening, I have to plant a PawPaw tree today. You need 2 varieties for cross pollination, and I only have 1 established tree. Maybe I'll get some fruits in my lifetime (very slow growing trees - my one tree is 8 years old, 5 feet high and blooming for the first time this year).

Tricia, that sounds like very good advice from Heidi, and she should know.
The menu is as follows: chicken soup, gefilte fish, roast beef, chicken breast, roasted potatoes, roasted asparagus, some other side, matzoh and dessert. I am trying to keep it simple this year.

Heidi, my gardening is in containers, pots, that I have at counter level to plant, so I am being careful not to bend. They are not overly large or heavy to get them from the bakers rack to the table I am using to pot them up. It is a bit cool and windy outside today, still, so another good reason for not staying out for a long time.

My gardens are all above ground as well.... ranging from 24 to 36 inches above ground.... to reduce strain to the back. But even that can be hard on the back after a few minutes of work. Backs are very sensitive for a couple of weeks after epidurals.

Heidi, if you left now, you would make it for dinner. Dinner is around 6ish, depending on when my brother gets here.

Heidi, blintzes are not a typical passover food. You are not allowed to have anything that rises and the blintz dough could have leavening in it.

Dennis has just lost control of his rear legs. He's struggling to stand, and not successfully. He's 12 years old now. I'll take him in to the Vet to decide what to do tomorrow. Why do these things happen on the weekends?

The last stragglers are finally being born. A bull calf yesterday and a heifer calf today. That leaves 4 to 6 cows left. I'll be doing an actual count tomorrow.

I need to feed some more hay to the cows before it gets dark. I really wish IH would do the farm work that he takes credit for.

Dennis is one of the last two Collies born here. The last is his sister Coffee. They're also the last two descendants of my very first Collie "Aggie".

Morning all,
My calves are aching this morning! The parking lot wasn't close to the show and we walked miles inside the show too. At least I wore sensible shoes - Alie has a huge blister on her little toe.

Tami, your menu sounds delicious. I still remember the passover dinner I was lucky enough to be invited to. I loved the traditions as much as the food.

MizT, all this talk of gardening - maybe I'll get onto the weeds in the front garden today - if my calves let me... sounds like I'm gearing up for another excuse to let them go wild...or rather, keep going wild.

Heidi, I hope Dennis is improving. When one of your dogs is ill it's almost like it's my own (except I don't have to pay the vet bills) as we've heard so much about them.

Tami, Dana used to get sick on week days when I was working. Alie got sick on weekends because I was home during the week... Murphy?

Dennis is walking again, albeit stiffly. What a relief. That means that it's probably a pinched nerve in his back.

Good Evening (only 9:45 p.m. here), Everyone. I hope you all have had/are having a wonderful day! I really need to get to bed earlier tonight; I'm already yawning.

June, Cyn and Suzy, thanks for describing the Royal Easter Show! In a way it sounds like our "state fair." That also includes professional entertainers, people "hawking" items for sale (kind of like the infomercials on very late night/early morning TV, judging of foods grown or made & items sewn or made & animal judging. Seems like the state fair is usually in late summer/mid-August.

June, I hope your D is feeling better!

Theresa, I hope your grandie is feeling better! I'm so sorry the anniversary gathering & dinner for you ILs didn't go as well as you had hoped! It's a shame that people so easily say and/or do things that hurt other's feelings! Leaving for home sounds like the best course of action then! Of course, you were glad to get home after that! I hope you slept well afterward!

Suzy, that's great that you got in free! Sounds like it might have been an expensive day, otherwise!

Tami, I wish I could smell your chicken soup cooking! What else are you making?

MizT, as if the storms weren't bad enough in Alabama, it seems like they were even worse in the Carolinas! I'm so glad you were safe!

MizT, I hope you can enjoy planting the planters a little bit at a time; just don't over-do! Were you able to motivate Al to do the pluming project? What a shame that your water bill was $20 over what it would have been, if it weren't for the leak. The good news is that you had a nice neighbor who was checking up on you, found the leak, and took care of it!

Heidi, I hope planting your PawPaw tree didn't aggravate your back! Did you bake bread? I love that smell from my childhood, but I don't bake bread myself.

Oo, yummy, Tami! Your menu sounds great! I'll be thinking of you!

Heidi, I'm so sorry to hear about Dennis' difficulties with his back/rear legs! Hopefully it is nothing more serious than a pinched nerve. Keeping fingers and toes crossed for a good outcome when you take him to the vet! Does calving always take so long, or does it just seem like a long time since the first calf was born? I hope you were able to get the hay to the cows! (Why does IH claim to do much of the work on the farm? Does anyone believe him?)

Suzy, when you started talking about your calves right after Heidi was mentioning hers, I was temporarily confused. As soon as I read a little further, it made perfect sense! Then your comment about Forever Archie confused me. Thank goodness Heidi and Tami asked about it! Good luck to them on their first gig outside of school!

Sounds as if you had a good day out Suzy even if expensive and tiring.
Heidi hope Dennis is walking a bit easier today.
My brain has gone blank, cannot remember what else I was going to comment on. Hope everyone is well and enjoying life.
Weather seems to be settling in for a spell of warmth for a while here.
Got to go and hang some gnihsaw out and set more going.

We had a nice day at the show but my feet are telling me about all the walking we did. I was disappointed with the number of quilts on show. Saw some magnificent cattle. Saw the black Angus but did not go through the pavilion with the red Angus Heidi. Belinda likes to spend time around the horses and her friend has won the tittle this year. Quite an honour as each country show has a show girl and then they all compete for the Sydney title. We did not see her as she was very busy with her 'duties'. we did see some of the riders and horses that compete in the Olympics. Missed the wood chopping and seeing things in the main arena. Hard when we had Laura.

What did get me today is the lack of manners in the younger generation. We went by special bus and we were the last to get on a full bus. I was standing next to the seats with the sign "please vacate these seats for disabled or elderly" or something similar. Sitting in the seat was a woman about thirty with a three year old girl sitting beside her. No way was she going to put the girl on her lap and let me sit down. There was also a chap with a small boy several seats back with many women standing beside him. I know I am capable of standing but it was the whole principle that annoyed me.

June I know exactly what you mean about the manners of the younger generation. Many think of no one but themselves. I rarely travel by public transport but on the occasions when I have I have seen people sitting on the aisle seat who will not get up to let someone sit by the vacant window seat. When I was a child if an adult whether elderly or disabled we gave up our seats for them.

I'm being very impatient at the moment, I'm waiting for my new laptop to be delivered. It should be here in three days. The one I am using at present I have had for over 2 years and it is in constant use, for work as well as pleasure so has seen some usage. Recently it has been showing signs of problems to come, flickering screen and is slowing down (or it could be that the programs I use need it to be faster especially Skype)

Morning all. Glad to be able to read and see good stuff. Quiet night on Sudoku it seems.
Heidi, will be thinking of you and Dennis. Hope it is just a pinched nerve.
Tricia, we must think alike. I made hubby take me to the store yesterday for a new flower pot. I was repotting something and the pot I had was not big enough. I didn't have to "make" him go, he wanted to get out of the house. He also wanted to make sure I didn't spend too much money
