I am looking after the grandies and a friend of the oldest grandie (her boyfriend actually). Maggie went to the hospital ER around 4:30 PM (it's now about 20 to 7:00) because she could no longer take the pain. I am pooped out already ... I must be getting older.

Afternoon everyone.
The rain and wind continues here.
Had over 4 inches last night.
Just heard an evacuation order is out for Settlement Point and Hibbard residents here in Port. The river is expected to peak at a major flood level at 10pm.

Thinking of you Rolanda Hope the missing your Mum begins to get easier. Left you a message on your photo of landscaping. that is gonna look very nice.

Theresa, so hard to keep up with the grandies. I hope daughter finds relief at the ER, pain like that can wear at you. Do let us know how it goes.

Heidi, congrats on the new arrivals, both birds and calves. Will the birds feathers grow back out? Did you know he had clipped them before you bought them? If not, might be a new question to ask fore buying more. Will other birds attack them, once they discover they cannot move about well?

Julie, I hope you have a good weekend, and everything goes as scheduled. It surely did sound like a full schedule for you.

All I can remember from the past page, so I will sign off shortly. I have a couple of things I am working on for meetings here. One, my book arrived. Daughter, the mother of grandson, sent me the book for the book club, it came overnight even! She orders so much from Amazon that she joined some thing where she gets free second day shipping. Mine just came extra fast, was only in KY, not that far away. I read reviews of the book, found some lists of discussion questions for the book, before it came, and about 1/3 finished with the book since yesterday afternoon. Can you guess what I have done all day??

My other project is too look up sign language for the deaf. We have several deaf residents, and I would really like to know how to communicate with them. They will have some classes in sign language starting next month. I always like to be well prepared for a class.

Hugs to each of you, with extras.

Hi Viv, how goes it with you?? Yes, sometimes you have to use that dryer, or get buried in laundry. I do hate having to use dryer all the time now, much prefer to hang them out to dry.

MizT.... The cockatiel's flight feathers will come back when they molt next. Most breeders clip the flight feathers when they sell them as pets. It makes early training much easier. My cages are so big, tho', that it's hard for them to get around the cages. They're pretty much confined to the floor of the cage.

Viv, hope the rains were good to you last night.

Julie, I've thought of you often and wondered how the (bugger, I've lost the word), cello thing went.

MizT, did you tell us what the book was? I can't remember now. I have just finished Emma and spent most of the book thinking how did people survive when they weren't allowed to actually say anything. I was waiting for her to realise she was a stuck up elitist. Luckily she eventually did or I would have decided forever that I hate the book.

June, how did the rain go up your way. We got over 4 inches! Around 3am it was raining so hard I went to check on the dogs and there was about 2 inches of water outside the back door where the dog's beds are. I put some blankets down in the kitchen and let them inside. I went out this morning and their beds (and everything else) are still wet. Dimi was hiding on top of one of the carport pylons way up under the roof. Hubby rescued him. He was crying for us to come get him.

Heidi, with I could sleep in! Hope you got a couple of fat calves overnight..

Just finished tagging another beautiful purebred heifer calf. That's 7 heifers and 3 bull calves now. Only 32 cows left to calve this Spring. We have 5 fall calves as well, whose moms weren't bred back. They'll be put in with the bull in May like the other cows to get them back to Spring calving. What blows our minds is that 2 of the first 10 cows to calve had twins. (tho' we lost the first set of twins) We've never had that happen. It's possible to have more twins. The cow who had the twins yesterday is taking good care of both calves so far, so we won't have to bottle raise one.

In case someone is trying to hurt their brain adding up the number of cows, right now we have 47.
One cow is a questionable cull. She's still producing decent calves, even with a nasty abscess on her right cheek. The Vet has lanced and drained it twice, and washed it out with antibiotics (plus given her shots) and it keeps coming back. It's bigger than a grapefruit and looks awful. I would think that an infection that size would affect her milk production, but it hasn't that I can see. This has been going on about a year now.

Suzy, the book is The Fortunate Pilgrim, by Mario Puzo, author of The Godfather Trilogy. It was written in 1969 before the Godfather books, received literary attention, but made him no money. It follows the life of an immigrant woman and her family through the 20's, 30's, up to World War II. The style is different, more a collection of Journal entries, different of the characters writing them. I find it interesting, it really portrays the lives of the poor immigrant Italians who settled in Hell's Kitchen area of N Y City. . Just up to the depression and the bank runs around 1929.

Today we had a group of young ladies from UAB (University of Alabama at Birmingham)come in to play with us hehehe. We had games, a penny auction, pizza and chips, more games, lots of fun. I purchased some liquid hand soap and a dish towel , a pen and note pad, with my 15 cents Lots of fun. Happened to have 3 cents left over, they got tired of me opening the bids at 3 cents. All I had, all I could do if I wanted to bid.

Received a nice valentines present from my quilting friend Bertie, a lovely red faceted heart pendant on a delicate silver chain. she is the sweetest person, found out I had been sick and sent this gift. It was wrapped in fabric, too. Black with red lip kisses, m and m's, and the word LOVE scattered all over it. took one of the men who had a knife to open it, cause her tape was very sticky. Chain so tiny he could not get it fashioned around my neck, but really nice of him to try. I have a magnetic clasp that will fit on the tiny clasp I think, then I can put it on.

All for now, I stayed downstairs too long, hurting and meds not relieving. I need Tylenol, TENS unit, my rub on Gel, something, to see if it will go away. Usually does, eventually.

Hugs to each of you, with extras.

Heidi, congrats on the second purebred heifer. Those 2 could really increase production of purebred calves you have to sell in a few years. I am sure they sell for considerably more. How old must she be to have a calf?

How unfortunate one of the moms has such an abscess. Wonder what caused it and what kind of germ it is , something resistant it seems.

Hi all. Sorry I have been MIA again but I am not on the pooter as often.

I do have a funny story. My parents have a really good friend of 40+ years. We met them shortly after moving to Florida in 1969. Their youngest son and I started kindergarten together and are still good friends. We grew up almost like brother and sister. We lived less than a block apart. When my parents first bought their house (new construction) the friends bought one around the corner. This was in 1981. Well the friend is now a widow and just put her house up for sale. She sold within days and is putting in an offer on a condo in the same building as my parents. This will be the third place they have lived in in Florida, and still within walking distance. This time, only a floor apart.

The back is in bad shape right now, but I have to grin and bear it if I want to raise cattle. That's one reason to have as short a calving season as possible.

Tami - I love that story about the friend of your parents. How lovely that they have stayed friends this long.
Had more to say but now I'm wanted on the phone - gotta go because it's our friends's son (the Ethiopian boy, now nearly 5) and he wants to talk to me.

A massive tree at Dana's place was split into many pieces last night. It has knocked power out to the building. One of her neighbours called the police about the downed lines first thing this morning. Water was there to check on their pump station. A rep of one of the real estate agents was there to check on the flooding - yep they have that too. Nobody called the SES or the electricity department. Not the police, not water, not the real estate agent, nor any neighbour. When we saw there was nothing happening Dana called the SES who told her to call Integral. Half an hour later the fire department shows up.....

What?

Hi all,
I've been having a ball doing jigsaws and reading so haven't been commenting as much although I've been reading and enjoying your comings and goings. Thanks for letting us know about your book MzT...I do think I may have read it way back in the day...hard to remember now.
Heidi, your cryptic post regarding members caught my eye and sent me looking.....when I saw Beehive's name, I understood the comment. He's not too bad as long as he doesn't have a really mean person to help stir things up....Often he can be quite funny and I had enjoyed many of his post. He has made appearances from time to time and been on his good behavior. I do hope he will live up to his potentially good side, most of the time at least, since he has been allowed back.
Hope things are going fairly well for most regarding the weather problems...Suzy, glad Dana called regarding the tree on the power lines...that spells big problems...Wonder why no one had thought to call them before...SMH.
Tami, good that you are decreasing your time here, but glad to hear from you every now and then.
Sending healing vibes and lots of hugs to all of you dealing with difficult situations and am hopeful that life will find a nice flat, uneventful place for those of you who have been riding the roller coaster of problems, illness and weather related things that have been going haywire recently.
Heidi... congrats on your new additions and hope you are blessed with more than hoped for, and still are able to rest your back with sleep-ins to keep you going.
Until we meet again, enjoy ther gift of life to the fullest...Peace.

Greetings to all. About to head to bed in preparation for one more day of the cello festival. Will need to go directly from the final concert to my musicianship class. Monday is a lesson with piano accompaniment. Tuesday is another lesson with a different teacher. We'll be back to 'normal' (whatever that is) later in the week.

Take care, Everyone. Stay safe and healthy! {{{{HUGS}}}}, , positive thoughts, healing vibes and prayers if you need them.

Hi all.
Brenda....if your Birthday is still current,
When I don't get here everyday, I seem to miss so much. Hope your day was great.
Julie...you must be progressing really well by now with all the practice on the cello. How do you feel you are going?
Suzy...bit scarey to have power lines down at Dana's.Has the power been restored yet? Things are quite bad down in NSW,flooding, high winds etc.It is raining again here too, and the ground is so saturated from the last lot, that if it keeps up, we could get more flash flooding.
Viv...are you in a flood zone? Stay safe!
MizT..you are so thoughtful, giving B'day cards and now learning sign language. Always thinking of others when you have so much pain.
Lovely to see Tami and Mamacita!
Heidi..fancy getting a few lots of twin calves. They must be so cute. Maybe the abscess is something more if AB's aren't helping. Hope not!
Sorry to hear that your back is so bad again.Take care.
Rolanda...big hugs.

June..saw more destruction on the news where houses had lost their roof's in Sydney.I cant believe the dreadful weather we are all getting.
Theresa..poor Maggie. As if she hasn't got enough on her plate without this starting again. Hoping that whatever is the problem, can be fixed without another op. The kids wear me out too!!

Yeah.... we can go for several years without twins. This looks like it will be an interesting calving season.

I'm heading out in a few for another cow/calf check. It's gonna be warm and dry today and tomorrow, perfect weather for calving. The cows seem to have a little control over when they calve, though I don't understand how, and have a burst of calving on nice days.

Hello all. I have just finished my birthday celebrations this year. Thank you all for you birthday wishes. My birthday was on Saturday 23rd. I had a nice lie in in the morning and then received some nice presents from family and friends. We had a snack lunch and then Richard and I went out for a 'drive' We ended up in St. Albans where we had a really lovely Indian meal, followed by a live concert by Fairport Convention.
The last time we saw this group we had weekend of being very cold and wet at a music festival. Last night was really enjoyable. Today we have been out with the 'kids' for lunch at our favourite Chinese restaurant followed by birthday cake at home.

Nola, for me, it is not good to think about the pain, you fall into a deep dark hole if that is your only thing on your mind. It is good to have interesting things to do and to think about, distraction from pain. Just spent a bit going over and over a few signs, they fall out of my brain once away from the computer, but I know if I keep watching, practicing, they will begin to stick.

Found some signs that could be very useful, they are grouped together in this tutorial as 'survival signs'. such things as SLOW (please sign slowly) AGAIN (I did not understand) I KNOW A FEW SIGNS and such, so that if you sign one thing, the person does not think you are proficient and hands go fluttering about so quickly you miss 99% of what they rapidly say. I did find my TXT on cell phone useful yesterday communicating with Early, one of our deaf residents. I could type in a word or sentence and show the phone to him, hehehe.

Getting near the end of my book. I need to find and print out a few study guides, go over them before passing the book on to my neighbor.

I just found out this neighbor, C, is moving to another apartment in the building. Said she asked for apartment with a balcony when she moved in, now one is available. Well, so did I, was told you cannot move just to get balcony and could not request one. Oh well, do not think I would move now if offered, would loose a storage closet, could not have my computer desk and queen sized bed in bedroom. So I am invited to come over and share her balcony, I can grow flowers there, she does not garden. We will both enjoy them that way, eh?

Once I get my power chair, I can zip outside for my fresh air and sunshine any time I want, it is a short ride.

off to New York City, in 1930's heheh, that is back to my book. A really good book, I feel as if I am there.

Hugs to each of you, with extras. Till later.
